This restaurant is a truly amazing. In the course of a week my family of 5 ate here twice. The first time was great and the second time was mind-blowing. We rented a house a few blocks away and fortunately came early in our trip. Our first dinner was on the patio which was delightful. Service was great and food really good. My son had the lamb which we tried to steer him away from since it was one of the more expensive things on the menu. I had the duck which was equally good. Everything was well paired and balanced with great flavor. It was “simple” French food done really well and it doesn’t hurt that wine is ½ price during the week. The second dinner is the reason I have to write this review. My wife and I both agree it was in one of the top 10 meals we’ve ever had – and I didn’t even have one of the “good” entrees. My wife cooks a very good Bourguignon. It’s a stew but haven’t found a better one out there. My son ordered it (again against my advice since it wouldn’t be better than at home). The Bourguignon here was unbelievably good. It was not a stew but a single piece of meat with kind of a deconstructed stew. The sauce was what really set it apart. My wife had the rabbit which was perfectly done and very unique. I had something good but don’t remember what because of the rabbit Bourguignon. Again, simple food prepared in French fashion, but done perfectly. On the second night we insisted we couldn’t eat desert since we had all but licked our plates. No one listens to me, so the waiter brought out a Floating Island which is what was in the picture. It was so light and delicious that everyone ate it before I could take a picture.

Superb local French bistro tucked away on 7th St SE down the block from Eastern Market. A diverse, modern menu that pleasingly focuses on traditional bistro fare. Liver, rabbit, escargot are amongst the menu highlights, which also has plenty of salads and a heavy emphasis on brunch dishes, particularly on Saturdays and Sundays when people are apt to line up to dine. Well-priced wine list obviously focused on a number of French varietals. On my visits I noticed a significant number of customers seem to be regulars, as they were invariably greeted with warmth and hospitality, although as a non-regular I was treated with attentive kindness on my two visits as well. Highly recommended - in a city with so many "fusion" options it is a pleasure to see a French bistro menu with the high-level execution of Montmartre.

Happened upon this restaurant when visiting the Eastern market 2 weeks ago. Finally made a reservation and happened to sit at the "Chefs table" by the prep line (recommended) and watched this Master Chef perform his artistic and culinary brilliance. I have had the good fortune to travel the world and enjoy the finest cuisine countries have to offer and I can avow that Montmartre from a food AND service perspective is up there with the best we have had in years. Wonderfully friendly knowledgeable Aisha and Jennifer as well as the real talent of Chef Steffan (and yes he really does talk to customers!!) , made this a fabulous culinary experience. DH-L

Food is fantastic. Tried the mussels (pastis), cant encourage you enough to do the same. Shrimp with tomato risotto and arugula pesto was perfect, as was the red snapper special. Salmon tartare with seaweed salad was good, but not quite as phenomenal as the mussels. Wine list was foreign to me, but our server was more than helpful in picking a great bottle, not at all condescending. Staff was friendly, present, and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was close, warm, but not crowded and stuffy. I highly recommend this restaurant, just be sure to make a reservation, as the limited seating quickly restricts walk-in dining.

A nice cozy restaurant. The French Onion Soup was just ok but the mussels were yummy. My bf got the rock fish which was ok, its tender, wish the sauce had a bit more flavor, too bland for my taste. However I love the duck breast, cooked to medium exactly how I ordered it and it was perfect together with the sauteed apple. You cannot skip dessert at this place, must get the Floating Island, so soft like a cloud, just look at my photos. Oh! Be sure to order a cup of coffee to go with it. ;)

This is a French café where the girls actually shave their armpits. Something about the French press coffee is better than any brunch spot in town. That croque monsieur and croque madame were perfectly prepared with the crusty bread. The inside gets pretty crowded, though, so get there early and get an outside table. This bistro is best visited when the weather is nice to get that al fresco dining, but its worth eating inside in the winter.

For an appetizer, I had the pumpkin soup with creme fraische and for dinner-- the shrimp with tomato risotto and arugula pesto. Y.U.M.M.Y!!!! I tell you the food was absolutely delectable. The shrimp was perfectly cooked-- not too tough and the pesto added just the right amount of herb to the dish. Staff was friendly. It was quite busy. We had a 9:30 pm reservation and it was only one table available when we got there-- ours.

Ive lived in Washington DC for the last ten years and have traveled all over the world. I know good food, and great service without being pretentious. I eat here at least once a month and it just outdoes itself each time. Easy access from Eastern Market metro stop. There are lots of great places to eat in Washington, but if youre a business traveler, or just want to try something outside NW DC, come down.

Terrible service. The waiter (who was a fellow person of color) was super nice to the old white bigot couple sitting next to us talking about how much they loved Trump and how they thought the Chinese and Indians lacked intelligence, how immigrants were ruining the country, etc. Meanwhile, he was extremely curt with us and never cracked a smile. Unacceptable difference in service based on color.

Thought dinner was wonderful - along with the service. We did not have reservations (although I would recommend it) and had a wonderful meal. The escargots were prepared perfectly and not overly "garlicky". All of our entrees were enjoyed as were our desserts. Great neighborhood restaurant where even the tourists felt welcomed.

Want some fresh French fare on a Saturday morning before going to Eastern Market for groceries? Cant imagine a better place. Food is relatively cheap (for D.C. anyway), the service was polite and prompt, the atmosphere was bright and welcoming. And most importantly: the food was just plain good. We will go back for sure.

By compare to other similar restaraunts in the area food was better than avarage. Nothing special by compare to a similar place in paris or montreal. The brased beef was a bit taugh and a bit overprised for the quality and size. The prices are dictated by the popularity of the place. Will come again but no rush....
