The theme of the restaurant is interesting and the atmosphere is good. The food is relatively adventurous to some people. These were what we ordered: Meat plate: meat was well prepared, though overall was mediocre. 6 Broccolinli/ artichoke heart: both have good flavors, highlighted the vegetables very well. 10 Bone marrow: the most ambitious dish we tried, presentation was great, but both the escargot and marrow tasted bland/unfresh and there was more sauce than marrow. 8 Mushroom risotto: it was just good. 10 Beef tartare: best dish of the night, perfectly marinated that balanced the seasoning and the natural meat flavor, very buttery texture. 10+ Mussels: very succulent and broth was very flavorful. 10 Sirloin on cauliflower purée: to be fair, its a very good dish, but conparing to the tartare, the meat was just not nearly as tender and flavorful. 9 Macaroon: a little bit on the sweet side, overall was pretty well done. 8 Bread: it was generally unimpressive... Overall, I rate the food to be 9/10; though taking price into account, since they were on the expensive side, I would rated 8/10.

I rarely give out 5 stars. You have to do something really special to earn it from me. Not only does Ally Light earn it, after my first meal there I booked a reservation for my wife and I for our anniversary. The food is as good as any Ive ever had. The staff service was exemplary. The cocktails were superb. This is a well rounded establishment that I will be enjoying for years to come. It is also an excellent value. For the quality, I would expect to pay more.

The ambience is incredible. You enter in through a "secret door" in the alley and it feels very much like a speak easy of old. The food comes tapas style in small plates which is great for an intimate date night. We werent particularly impressed with any of our plates but there was plenty to choose from. Our tenderloin took almost 2 hours which was about 1 hour later than all our other plates. It came undercooked and was the least impressive plate of the night.

Dont tell people where youre taking them when you take them here—it spoils the fun—but do take them here. The Alley Light is as close as you get to a classy speakeasy as Ive ever seen or heard of, and even if you have to stand off in a corner sipping your cocktail (its always crowded) it will be totally worth it. The impracticality is all part of the experience, and its an experience you dont want to miss.

A speakeasy style of establishment with a rather inconspicuous entry. The small plates are fairly creative, but tend to be hit or miss. Had the hen crepe and bone marrow dishes, which were quite rich and unique. The same went for the cheesecake. The bar is immense and the summer cocktails were quite delicious, but there a few stinkers on the list as well. Overall rather interesting experience.

Beautiful ambiance, romantic setting for a date. The cocktails are second to none, top shelf. Interesting tapas, not necessarily delicious, especially for the price youre paying. Our entrée streak took an hour in an empty room to arrive, to our disappointment, way undercooked.

Outstanding spot for drinks in downtown cville. Best fancy drinks around in fact. Some of the nicest bartenders are here, and although it takes a while to get a drink made (so much fire and shaking, as is usual with most hipster bars now) its well worth it.
