This used to be my ALL TIME favorite place to go for brunch. A jersey city staple, Madame Claudes had the BEST brunch ever-- the walls covered in old magazine and newspaper clippings, the crepes, the little side salad with the perfect amount of dressing, the croissants with the little jar of jam, the little drawings of cats in the foam on my jacuzzi-sized cafe au lait--all of these things were the reason the place was always packed. While the new place is beautiful, I was so saddened with my experience. Gone is the side salad, gone are the pictures in my cafe au lait. The crepe was dry and disappointing. I do not write this to deter people from going there. Sara is an amazing woman and she has been an incredible part of this community for years. I write this in hopes that the kitchen will strive to maintain the culinary integrity that they had in the shoebox that was the original. Please! This was one of the reasons I fell in love with Jersey City!

First words that comes to mind are disappointment, incredulity and sadness. I had a first experience at the old address before The restaurant moved to its bigger location. They got the ambience right in both places and thats basically it!!! Call me biased if you want. Im a proud French chef with over twenty five years experience , and he roots for his fellow countrymen anywhere and wherever he can, but after two failed attempts, I feel ashamed they advertised their cuisine as French. A farce, thats whats appropriate for this place. If you dont know what French cuisine is, I absolutely get that you could get tricked by the ambience, but let me be clear : their gratin dauphinois, their moules marinières, their galettes du sud ouest are JUST NAMES that dont mean a thing to their chefs. I was appalled by their "merde" ( yes I mean exactely that).

My wife and I went their and placed 2 orders of muscles. After 20 mins only one order came out. So my wife and I decided to share the order and cancel the second order. Over 20 mins later the second order arrived after I had asked for our check. The waitress charged for the second plate of muscles on my check. So I asked her since I was being charge for the muscles for her to wrap up the muscles to go. The waitress and later the manager refused to wrap up the muscles giving some bogus excuse about health regulations about muscles to go nor were they wiling to take the item off the bill. Bottom line service horrible food just so so. Much much better places to eat for your hard earn money

I have been coming here since they were a tiny cafe shop and relocated to this establishment. This is a great little French cafe away from grove st. Usually I come here for brunch with the gf. Love most of the options. Enjoy the salmon, merguez, crepes, and eggs. Majority of the food options are good. The coffee is a very good option too. Just remember parking is limited in the area. If you come for dinners you may want to make a reservation. For dinner definitely try the muscles I heard great things. Used to be a BYOB but now they have full bar once they moved. Good selection of wines!

We used to go to this restaurant all the time when it first opened and up to a few years after it opened. The food was good, service so-so, prices kind of high. But we stopped going there about 2 years ago because the restaurant was noticeably getting dirtier every time we went. And the straw that broke the camels back was one Sunday we went for brunch, we ordered and all of a sudden I saw the largest roach on the wall behind my friends head. The wait staff was so nonchalant about it. We just walked out and never went back, it skeeves me just thinking about it.

Im so happy for Madame Claude they have moved into a new bigger brighter space The food is wonderful and the new space is just amazing It is been a long jounery for them but Its just Fabulous Cant wait going again this weekend for brunch for my birthday that has been a tradition for 10 years now and looking forward to celebrating in the new space. The wines are great although I miss the BYOB but its worth being able to get a table on a Friday or Sat night so glad to see some of the old staff there all so welcoming Welcome Madame Claude Bis !

This is a charming restaurant a little off the beaten path. Frankly, the neighborhood is not very pleasant to look at, but after living in JC for a few years Ive become accustomed to enjoying authentic cuisine wherever I can get it. Its not premiere french cuisine, but Ive been to France many times and can say with some authority that it does remind one of the small town restaurants. In that sense, its a good way to experience some French food which is, on average, some of the best in the world. The BYOB is a favorite policy of mine as well.

If the option" -5" was available! I would give - (MINUS) 5 stars to this restaurant. I ordered a soup and it was 10 $ for a very little amount that tasted and smelled like spit! Terrible Terrible! I wanted it hot , but it was kind of microwaved maybe for 1 second! Their food was better before! Madame Claude is going backwards! This restaurant is out of my list of Fav. restaurants forever! Dont waste your money if you want to eat a good food! Too expensive for such a low quality! The water glass smelled like EGG! Apple pie was 7$ and Terrible!

We sat at on an outside table on a Friday night and ordered the special, which was a seafood soup. $26.00 and it was small, contained 2 small chunks of cod and 3-4 shrimp and was essentially flavorless. They gave us some garlic butter which helped to add flavor, so we decided to get dessert to see it was any better. We ordered the banana, chocolate crepe and the bananas were cold and the crepe was not that good. I am quite disappointed with my experience. We paid a lot and were not impressed

After ten years as a repeat customer, Ive officially banished them from the JC play book. The last time I went in there, not only did they mess up three different dishes ordered and close the kitchen before taking our desert orders, but the manager/waitress wigged out after receiving some reasonably polite feedback at the end of the evening. Ive never even seen someone act like that towards a customer much less experienced it. Never again, under any circumstances.

Madame Claude Bis is a wonderful little place to eat great French food,, drink a bit and when we were there, listen to three men play background music. It was a great night with my wife & her sister my son & our niece. The food was very good ~ excellent in my mind. Try the escargot if you like that. You wont be disappointed. It was easy to find even on a miserable rainy night. One caution: It is expensive. (but worth every penny)

Madame Claudes is one of the best French restaurants around. Their steak is always expertly prepared and comes with your choice from three different sauces available. The Couscouse Madame Claude is one of my favorites and I always walk away with extra. In their new location they now have a liquor license and have many great wines, beers, and cocktails available.
