My boyfriend and I are new to the area and heard about this great French restaurant. Being foodies and lovers of French food we knew we had to try it! First impression: it is gorgeous! Such a romantic spot! The little tea light candles were such a nice touch! The food was incredible! I ordered the chicken dish and it came with green beans and these delicious potatoes in a sauce. This is what sets this place apart: the service. My boyfriend ordered something that tasted very different than what we traditionally have in France or Montreal. He didnt like it and didnt eat it. We are not the type to ever complain about our food. It wasnt that it was bad.... it looked delicious! He just didnt like or recognize the sauce. The waiter came back and saw it still on the plate and asked if he didnt like it. We HATE telling a chef we dont like something. So he said he didnt like it but it was totally ok. The owner/manager came over and apologized and asked how it could have been better. He genuinely cared about our feedback. Then we noticed the meal was comped off our bill, though we would have gladly paid for it because it took time and talent to make it. Thank you for EXEPTIONAL service!!! We will be back and we will tell friends about this gem of a restaurant! Merci beaucoup! Oh! As a side note... I loved how the menu was in French! Eating out is a cultural experience and it added to our French culinary experience!

Service was slow and dismissive on a slow night, so in that regard, its an authentic French restaurant. Food is good, but not go-out- of-your- way for it so. Environment is nice, but see above re: food. I guess I might have given it four stars but for the fact that the higher prices you pay for everything seem to pay for its numerous pretensions, and I wasnt impressed by the semi-constant upselling that occurred throughout the early part of the meal. If I tell you I dont want a salad, Im REALLY telling you I dont want a friggin salad. My party had four different entrees, and we were satisfied by all of them but not blown away. Wine list is decent for this area, but again, not any more than that.

Ive been here twice. Both times very nice service and very good food all around. 5 stars = as good as it gets. In Durham, I havent found anything better (admittedly, in a big city this may not quite be 5 stars but I digress). Its just a bit better than a lot of the hip new spots in town that weve tried and enjoyed. Food is a little heavy, but it is so good (I mean, just get the steaks, thats why youre here), the vibe is great. No complaints about anything. Both times I went myself and party have all been happy campers.

We had reservations and were greeted fairly quickly with a bit of an icy attitude. We were seated promptly at a very cramped table and after several minutes our waiter took our drink order. While the atmosphere is visually appealing the cramped table space is not. Overall the food was the best thing here and it was average at best with the exception being the French onion soup which was very good. All in all I have to say the service was barely adequate, but given the high ratings I would have expected more.

What a terrific restaurant! Nice and cozy atmosphere and everything on the menu was delicious. We came here for dinner with a larger party (12 folks) and our waiter was very accommodating. I had the hangar steak with frites and it was delicious, if not a little too salty. My wife had the bacon mac and cheese and that was terrific as well. The onion goat cheese tart is a terrific appetizer and I would recommend it, along with the bacon jam on bread. Cant wait to go back!

Saw ad online that the place was hiring. Invited applicants to stop by and fill out an application from 2pm-5pm. I was there at 2:15pm, met the manager. He:"We are in the middle of service" Me:"The ad says to stop by between 2 and 5, it is 2:15" He:"Does it say to come today?" Me:"It doesnt have specific day when to come". He turns around and walks away. Very rude! Feel bad for those who work there. Manager like that should not work in hospitality and manage anybody...

Wow! I lived in France for a 6 months and this food is everything that France is. The servers may not be French, but the atmosphere is very French. No one rushes you through your meal, instead you are treated like guests who can stay as long as you want. Enjoy your meal and enjoy the company like the French do at this incredible restaurant.

The lack of reviews really makes me sad for people who are looking for quantity and quality of reviews in their searches of restaurants in the area. Anyway, wonderful service, excellent food, spot on selections of wine to compliment a meal, and delicious after dinner fare make this the premiere French restaurant in the city of Durham.

Great steak and seafood options. Oyster gratinee is also delish here. Yes, its a French restaurant but give me a break with the pretentious menu that doesnt have anything in English.. as if that adds to the authenticity of the food. Doesnt the constant "what is that" "what does that mean" give them a clue?

This was our first visit to Vin Rouge and we will be back. The chorizo and mussels were absolutely fabulous. I got the flank steak and my husband got the Pork Chop. Both were delicious. Cocktails were good and the service was great. I cant believe I have lived in Durham for 10 years and never visited.

Vin Rouge is always tasty, but rarely breaks out of tradition with a phenomenal experience. If youve gone here once, youve gone here a dozen times. Definitely fit for foodies visiting town, but the lack of variety may leave regulars feeling like they are getting a repeat experience.

After 4 trips over a couple of months with different people in tow and sampling several items, time to summarize. As some the less favorable reviews show, the fish tacos are not the best here - typically overcooked and not much flavor - avoid and youll be happier on your visit

Consistent excellence with service and taste. It smells like Paris. The menu is full of exciting dishes every time I go. I also recommend the brunch. I my opinion Vin Rouge has the best brunch at any price in the Triangle and the brunch prices are very reasonable.

Fantastic prix fix menu during restaurant week. Better yet, you can get most of the items on a regular basis. We love fresh oysters and these were honestly the best Ive had in the triangle area - delicate, delightfully petite, and a deliciously light flavor. Yum!

Delicious pre fix and fantastic brunch. Had steak and mussels for the dinner, and regularly enjoy eggs bennadict with frites and spring mix for a Sunday mid day treat. All while seated in the lovely and quaint outside tables- dont mind the nearby street or parking!

Amazing cuisine! Went there for brunch and had the Mediterranean Benedict, ham and gruyere cheese omelette. They were both amazing and the price point is what makes this place one of the best restaurants in the state. Great work by the chef and staff.
