I went with my boyfriend and we got the vegetarian Maharajas banquet special for $42. I was under the impression that we could choose our entree AND our appetizers and desserts. Turns out it was only the entree we could select but our waitress never informed us. Both the appetizers and desserts given to us were subpar and our entrees were decent at best. I will say the naan was great though and my boyfriend thought the food tasted better then I did. For $42 I expected higher quality food and service. Every time we received food none of the workers (we had 3 total throughout our time eating) told us what dishes they were putting in front of us (especially since we had no idea what kind of appetizers or desserts we were getting since we couldnt choose). Honestly at first when we got our appetizer I thought they gave us fried fish since the waiter didnt tell us what it was which was bothersome since we specifically ordered the vegetarian special. Turns out it was some fried slabs of cheese. There was only 2 other tables in the restaurant at the time so it wasnt like they were too busy to tell us. If I was told how the Maharajas banquet special worked I would of opt for just picking our entrees plus a dessert and apply (that we would actual want) for a much cheaper price. Hopefully there is a better Indian restaurant around.

I dined at Sitar on a Friday night and absolutely LOVED it! It is a bit tucked away, which made it the perfect place for me to meet up with someone after a very stressful week. Apparently I drive past the restaurant on a regular basis and have never noticed it - perhaps because it is situated along the busy 15-501 highway. It was my first visit there, so I immediately sat at the bar at the entrance when I arrived to wait for my friend who suggested we have dinner there. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the decor is great. The design and layout of the restaurant are very aesthetically pleasing. I planned to order chicken biryani and naan, but decided to just enjoy the buffet after seeing all of the great options. The buffet includes vegetarian, seafood and meat options, so theres a bit of something for everyone. I literally tried a little of everything from the buffet, and loved all of it. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for a relaxing dinner, either with friends or for date night.

Just picked up food after a pretty good online ordering experience. The woman (older and Indian) -possibly owner/management rudely dropped the pen, my card, and receipt to sign. I also asked her for napkins and she gave me exactly ONE napkin. She was cold, very rude, and obviously racist. I stayed behind to make sure I wasnt being paranoid or jumping to conclusions. I watched her kindly take the older White gentlemens card and kindly lay his card and receipt on the table for him to sign. I am African-American and I love indian cuisine....however, I will never buy anything else from Sitar. I will be driving all the way to Azitra in Brier Creek and get better tasting food and much better customer service. I will most certainly tell all of my friends and family to go elsewhere. Smh.

My search for good indian food continues in Durham. After that bad experience with Spice & Curry, I visited Sitar for a Buffet on a weekday.Good ambience and a decent service. Not many non vegeterian options on buffet. Probably i am expecting too much since i am from jersey. Never saw an indian buffet without Idli,Dosa,Sambar. But again as i said, my expectations are too much for Durham area. Second time, I ordered for a GOAT biryani through DUrham take out and am satishfied with the taste. Atleast some one brought me a Goat biryani instead of saying Goat & Lamb are same(check out my review on Spice & CUrry).

One time we tried this place and they had a wonderful very spicy buffet, very expensive but decent food. This time we had to eat flavorless Indian food, even after we did not ask for mild. Also an opinionated waitress insisted in changing our original choice for the children, which resulted in overpriced chicken fajitas. This place was still expensive this time, the rice was over cooked and they charge for naan. I guess Im used to better Indian restaurants by RTP. As a general rule I would only recommend Indian if they serve buffet. Otherwise its always a surprise, and generally not a good surprise.

Sitar is excellent, its far superior to the other offerings in Durham proper. Try the Mysore Masala Dosa, and dont forget to pour on the coconut chutney liberally. Buffet dinners are fun on Friday nights, especially if you want to try everything. Of course, youre only a short drive from Cary, where there are a dozen great Indian restaurants to suit any taste. But if we cant make it to Cary, Sitars the best around. Id even compare it favorably to Mint in Chapel Hill, which would win on decor, and some creative/nouveau drinks & dishes... but on pure food quality they are equal.

I will rate negative stars if possible, -5 stars. Sep 17 2017 i walking in for a dinner buffet. One of the items was cooked with rubber band, which i realized while chewing. When told the restaurant manager, she apologized and said "thank for understanding, Indian kitchens are always a mess", so be it, isnt your work to keep it clean. On top I paid the bill for 3 with a $8 discount for serving a rubberized dish. Their intention was like "just pay and get-out, i will serve what i will serve" I do not recommend this place to anyone. They have to learn ethics first.

The worst Indian food Ive ever tried to eat. Absolutely hideous saag paneer. Tastes like something my horse wouldnt eat. Chewy, greasy, stringy, horrible. The chicken tikka Marsala was almost edible, but tasted like it was made with ragu from a jar. The veg samosas were actually ok. The rice had something greasy in it. It had orange flecks, cheese? Not sure. Even the garlic naan was very thick and chewy and not in a good way. I do not recommend this restaurant in any way shape or form. Im hoping I dont get ill. Eat at your own risk.

The weather is getting cooler and that means its time for Sitar. My sister and I meet, have a big buffet lunch and lots of laughs. Its a special place for us. We pile our plates with steaming everything. The servers smile when they see us coming because they know we have so much fun and love the food. Sometimes we are on diets and eat lettuce instead of rice. I know that doesnt make a difference with so much of the creamy Tikka Masala on our but it makes us feel better. Go on a cold wet afternoon and youll see us there!

During my two visits, what I experienced is that they have ariety of dishes for buffet but quality of food needs to be improved. Tandoori chicken was so dry that despite having high tolerance, it was difficult for me to chew and swallow. Rice puffs used for BHEL were stale during all both visits, having papadum and refilling water varied on servers preference from table to table. Owner must walk around and must make sure that all guests are attended properly and equally.
