Just had the worst experience at this diner, and although I am a regular I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! The owner was condescending and rude. I asked to substitute avocado for bacon on my sandwich the waiter said sure. The sandwich came out without avocado and had to be sent back to be added. I was then charged $3 for the substitution which I was never told about. When going to check out, I asked why I was charged for the avocado when there is another sandwich on the menu that was the same ingredient I had but didnt cost $3 extra. When explaining this to the cashier and waiter, the owner came out. He refused to listen and told me then I should have ordered the other sandwich. He was fighting over semantics and I could not believe that the owner would be arguing with his customer over $3! He raised his voice and when I said I was a regular and would no longer be coming back he said fine goodbye and obnoxiously waved his hand at me. The owner is unprofessional, the food is over priced, and the service is mediocre. There are several diners in Wantagh, so give your business to places that are better run and show respect to their customers!!!! Try East Bay Diner down the block!

We waited a while for our "waitress" to even come to the table. The Diner had roughly 6/7 tables so they werent even busy. Once she did come she was a little snippy because someone had to grab her & tell her " table _ needs you "... she had an attitude while taking our order because of this. The food came quickly which was good but one of our orders was incorrect. When I told her she blew up saying nope you said "" I know because I wrote it down. I told her that is not what we ordered ; we would never have picked what she "wrote down". The mistake she made wasnt the problem at all ; it was her mouth. My husband has worked in the food industry for so long & never would stir up a fight with a customer like she did. This woman was so unprofessional and treated us with such disrespect I had to get up and leave. I have never in my life left a restaurant because I felt threatened by the staff. On our way out the waitress was letting her coworker know (very loudly) that she wrote the(F******) order down correctly. Her disgusting behavior is the reason why we will Never be returning again. Learn some manners.

Ivde been going to this diner for decades now -- and usually ordered safe stuff. Diners might have ambitious menues, but Ive always felt that I was better off with hash and eggs than ordering a full dinner. That was then. A few months ago I went to the Lighthouse and was either very hungry or very curious, because I ordered duck. Duck can be difficult to cook, easy to overcook, and probably not something to trust to a very busy kitchen. To my surprise, it was excellent -- moist meat, crisp skin, and both the breast and the leg cooked to the right extent. Ive had enough nerve to try one or two other full dinners and been equally pleased with the quality of the cooking. The overalll menu remains standard diner food -- the salads, soups and deserts are basic diner fare, -- this review only applies to the protein part of the main dish, and I havent tried a repeat on any of the dishes that impressed me, so I cant vouch for consistency. Still, based on my last 3 - 4 meals there, I have to rate Lighthouse a notch above the other diners Ive visited in the area.

I walked in to have a late lunch with my mother and grandmother after having experienced a family disaster. I walked in with a cup of Starbucks from up the road when the manager, named Pasturale, walked up to me and told me I could not have the cup. I assured him I just wanted to join my family after a traumatic experience and he told me I had to give it to him or throw it out. I was wearing a suit, it was approximately 4:30 PM, and I was very polite the entire time. Because I found this ridiculous, I said have a nice afternoon, got up, and walked out. I have been to many diners before where I have been permitted to walk in with a cup. It is ridiculous that I should have to throw out my coffee in order to have some sub-par coffee. If I was a teenager walking in at 8PM with a Starbucks cup that would be a different situation, however I was joining a table with my mother and my quite old grandmother. I will not be returning to this diner after this unnecessary additional stress.

BUG ALERT!!!!!!!!!!! Me and my husband just ordered take out order. The burger and a soup from this place. I opened my soup and had 2 BUGS FLOATING in my container!!!! It was disgusting! !!! We called back to the diner trying to speak to the manager. Manager put our waitress in the phone. She said oh, sorry about that. So basically manager wasnt even trying to talk to us. So obviously they know about BUG PROBLEMS there and not doung anything about it. They just said over all "just deal with the bugs in your soup". My husband right now sick as hell after eating their burger!!! Please dont waist your health in that place!!!!

Asked for traditional french toast that wasnt soggy (thats a common problem for the diners in this area) server said no problem. Received it and it was complete mush. Sent it back for the challah french toast hoping since its thicker that it wouldnt be soaked all the way through, and the server came back saying theyll all be like that since theyre made the night before and they couldnt make any fresh. Such a disappointment. Switched it for a (burnt) short stack of pancakes and was still charged for the more expensive plate. If youre looking for good French toast, make it at home!

I stopped coming to this diner a few years ago on account of a server with a nasty nasty attitude, since ive been coming here again over the last several months I have been SO impressed. The servers are phenomenal, attentive and friendly, the food is priced 100% reasonably and is absolutely delicious. My grandparents recently moved out of state and when they come back to visit they always stop here. I actually have a vivid memory of the best strawberry milkshake I ever had, purchased here, like 10 years ago. Great place, happy to give them my business

A great diner experience. I was in a very rare (in me) mood for greasy diner food while on a weekend road-trip. We came to Lighthouse Diner because of the reviews, and the food turned out much better than I had expected. The burger and panini were well prepared, had distinct flavors and were not greasy at all. The place is very popular and filled up quickly, so the waitress clearly encouraged us to leave a couple times, but she never became pushy and we ended up staying for a couple hours without any issues.

Our car club has been going to this place every wednesday for the past 2 years and we are treated great. We get the same waitress, she knows all our names, knows exactly what we order and they let us move tables, chairs, set up things how we want all the time. Owner isnt very friendly but he usually just sits at the register. our food is always great and comes out real fast even when we have like 15 people at our table.
