I hate to say was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in my entire lifetime of eating out. I have been in four star restaurants as well as diners and dont get me wrong I wasnt expecting a gourmet experience but at least a decent diner style meal. I ordered the Steak tidbits and shrimp dinner special which is priced at $22.00 and includes your choice of appetizer , soup or salad. The waiter was overly friendly almost to the point that he knew my meal would suck and felt sorry for what he was about to bring out with his overly laden use of the word my friend , buddy etc etc. First came the salad 2 leaves and a few tiny vegetables that if I blinked I wouldnt have even know I ate anything. Next came the appetizer I chose which was baked clams.. They dont say what style of baked clams your getting but its three micro mini tins of the a kids sized appetizer overly buttered drenched in salt. Theres more butter and salt then clam or breading. Last but not least the steak tidbits which looked and tasted like alpo dog food. Mr buddy pal bro waiter neglected to even ask how I wanted it cooked and brought it out almost half raw. The few pieces that were cooked made me sick to my stomach. No free dessert they only offer you cofee or tea. This hideous excuse for dinner ended up costing me $26.00 when I went to pay the bill the Hostess asked me how was dinner I did not hesitate to tell her how awful it was. The manager came over to ask me why and I told him too. All he could say is Oh I have a new chef I will tell him not to serve small portions. Yeah tell him to get a better grade of food. I know its not a top of the line steak house but your food made me sick and I am very proud of the fact that I did not leave you any tip what soever on my debit card. If I find out that you wrote one in I will make sure I cancel the entire transaction. I will never be coming back to this excuse for an eatery ever in my life and will make sure I tell everyone I know the same. The only food worse than this establishment would be my exwife and even she cooks better. Yuck is what I have to say for your place.

Disappointed. I called in an order for the greek salad with gyro meat and a gyro wrap, and had my bf pick it up. Pros: The salad was huge and the person who took my order was nice. Cons: $18 for a salad that was less than okay. The salad had 4 kalamata olives and then a ton of sliced black olives (which was not in the description on their menu). For such an expensive salad I would expect more than 4 kalamata olives. They gave me the smallest amount of dressing for this huge salad. The grape leaves were mushy and tasted like they were old, I had to throw them right away. The gyro wrap was just ok, we have definitely had better. When my bf gave me my change I realized they had charged me for the "deluxe" which comes with ff, cole slaw and pickle. But the person who took my order never asked me if I wanted that and I assume if I order the wrap thats what im getting, not all the extras. Honestly, it was a waste of my money and I will never go back.

Atmosphere beautiful. I love the jack Daniels wrap! Soups are great. Id love to get hot bread served with dinners in bread basket and bigger captains platter portions is my only improvement recommendation. Fries are incredibly terrific and lunch /dinner specials. Maria is unbelievable as a waitress. Super friendly staff as well. They need next to add fried eggplant sandwich or wrap next with portaBella mushrooms and provolone -Id die because I always drive to wading river for this treat at their local diner. This place can definitely do this because its great. Good job south bay. Now lets get the eggplant "audra" special added!!!

South Bay has been my husband and Is favorite restaurant for many years. There food and service is consistent. The food is always delicious. Im a good cook myself so Im very fussy about what I eat and I have not been disappointed. The staff is very attentive. The food always comes hot. No restaurant is perfect and if you have any problems...they will fix it very quickly. Ive eaten a many dinners in the past and I only eat here because I know it will be good. Their breakfast is the best! Oh wait....I forgot about their hamburgers....the best!! They have the best cheesecake also,

I stopped here for the first time on New Years Day around 1:00 am. I was with my 2 daughters. Our order was taken quickly and the food was great, our waitress was very nice. The portions were rather large, even the kids portions. My daughter had mac and cheese and it was an adult size even though its a kids meal. Ive been to a lot of diners on Long Island and I would say this is one of the best. This diner also has more of a restaurant feel and has a more mature crowd which I like. I will be there again.

Ive never had a meal here I didnt like and the service is fantastic! Always happy when I eat here! Great for families too! We eat here with our little ones all of the time! For breakfast my favorite is the south bay skillet! They make it with homemade corned beef hash which is the best hash Ive ever had! Delicious! Their burgers are awesome too! Love this place!!

In the metropolitan New York area, we love our diners. LOVE THEM. There are allegiances, and people can get very picky. My times at the South Bay were always met with friendly, prompt service, a menu with a wide variety, good food priced right, and a bonanza of desserts. Its all here in spades at the South Bay. Definitely recommended!!

i was there tonight 5/6/2012....with family member...waitress was rude/food burned/ overcharged. Mgr very accusatory, young kid drinking and eating at bar. Lost 10 year clients and business meetings that have taken place bi weekly. Very sad how the world is changing.

Dont come here if youre hungry. We waited 30 minutes for salmon that was rubbery and tasted off. Their Jack Daniels sauce turned out to be flavorless honey sauce. We ordered shrimp to replace it and were given chicken. How does shrimp translate as chicken??!!

Really bad experience here today, ordered the French dip panini, and I got a bland warm tasteless roast beef sandwich. My wife ordered a pastrami Ruben, it was tasty but the bread was greasy and wet from the way they heat the pastrami. Terrible meal

The waiter was friendly and eager to help, just a bit slow so dinner took longer than expected. The food is always great and the staff is always friendly. The decor is great, which makes it feel like upscale dining for a reasonable price.
