So my husband and I are all about staycations and where better than the Standard to stay on a couple of cold winter nights. The first night that we stayed over we figured wed do a nice dinner at The Standard Grill so we can lounge around the hotel. We called down to make reservations and they were more than happy to accommodate us on pretty short notice. We entered the restaurant -- I absolutely loved the vibe and dress code the waiters have. It was very European and appealing. We were quickly seated and a lovely and friendly waiter was more than happy to recommend the best dishes to order. I know Im jumping straight to dessert but my absolute favourite dish was the chocolate hazelnut mousse. That pie took me straight to heaven. I saw paradise and I didnt want it to end. Alright, alright, back to the real food. The salmon was phenomenal, grilled to perfection with an amazing sauce. Ive definitely had better crostinis but it wasnt bad. All other dishes were OK. The next morning we decided to come back for breakfast. As it was morning, we had a different waiter, who wasnt so attentive and it was difficult to enjoy what should have been a really pleasant morning. We ordered coffees, french toast, bagels etc. I ordered my coffee with sugar --- in that case Id need a spoon to mix the coffee. It was not provided when he initially brought the coffee to the table. So I waited, and waited, and waited. Literally 10 minutes and he failed to come back to my table, so I got up and walked to the kitchen and asked them for a spoon. They were of course happy to help. The manager, standing nearby, overheard my request and was absolutely mortified. Moments later he came to my table and offered unlimited coffee on the house for my inconvenience. But the setback had already set the mood for breakfast although I definitely tried to enjoy as best as I could. The breakfast dishes were pretty ordinary and decent. I love The Standard and will be back with out a doubt. Definitely looking forward to more dinners at The Standard Grill.

Surprised by all but one. The manager "Julian" was behind the bar by the register yelling and waving his hands and getting on the face of an employee of his. This was early kind of like midday. So unprofessional and overly rude. You take the employee to the office and speak to them. You dont do that in public. Not to mention, this was an elder worker. Everybody else was on his "late 20s early 30s. Manager needs to check in in some hr and etiquette course, probably even get his manners checked. Moving forward, I love this restaurant! On one side is a beer garden (self explanatory) outdoorsy, long wood benches and tables, pool tables and a huge bar. on the middle is a nice natural light restaurant( lots of Windows, white refreshing look on the walls) , next to it, its an outdoor branch-hugging umbrella tables and behind it all, a more dark leathery side of the restaurant. All areas have different music. I love it. This restaurant is somewhat t-shaped. The bathrooms are super trendy. A sort of chain drape separate mens from womens restroom. (I love the handicapped restroom!) -----> the food was amazing. Ordered a lobster roll w fries and I was really impressed. Im picky with lobster rolls. This lobster roll had a hint of lemon and spices to it. Very juicy. The fried were on point of perfection. Not greasy at all. But mighty good crunchy. My waiter checked on me various times, but never pushy. He was very charismatic and energetic. He carried a really good attitude on him and when asked if he had a plate that was my in the menu, he suggested a similar dish to it(helpful). I stayed for three or four hours, which gave me the opportunity of seeing how the staff works and handles itself. They are very friendly and they help eachother a lot. Team work to its fullest. Love their uniform btw (gray Burberry kinda print!)

I have been to the beer garden countless times, but only recently had dinner here for the first time on a Friday night. I found the food to be slightly below average for its price and the service to be slow and inattentive. With regard to the food, I had the salmon, which was overcooked and surprisingly very boring and bland. My friend had the trout, which she said was also bland and served with potatoes smothered in some tangy and inedible butter cream sauce. At the very least, those two dishes needed more flavor, effort, and inspiration. As to service, our waiter was largely absent and unavailable for most of the night. We had to stalk him for our drinks, which came *after* we completed our entrees. He also failed to timely provide our check and thank us for dining with the restaurant. I entertain clients at the best NYC restaurants on a weekly basis and would be ashamed to take them here. I can only guess that the good reviews are based solely upon the restaurants great location in close proximity to the High Line. I would definitely go somewhere else in the neighborhood rather than spend my money on uninspiring food with inattentive service.

Im a very easy-going, happy person and it takes a lot for me to be motivated to write a negative review, even if Ive had a bad experience; however, the service at The Standard Grill was SO BAD that I just felt compelled to let others know! Dont get me wrong... the food is pretty good and the overall vibe of this place is wonderful. However, the service was the worst I have ever seen and made the entire experience sour. We had a 9 AM breakfast reservation, at which time it wasnt very busy. It took over 45 minutes for our tea and coffees to come once we had ordered and over an hour for our food. The worst part was that when we asked for an update and to see if our food/drink was on its way, the waiter was rude, sarcastic and unapologetic. He had a serious attitude and made us all feel like we were inconveniencing him. Its unfortunate because this place has the potential to really be fantastic - the food and ambience are top notch; however, the need to invest in training their staff on customer service!!! PS - I also have several severe food allergies (I carry an epipen) and they were not taken seriously. The waiter laughed and did not seem to care.

After not being able to find the bar with the vaunted view, some friends, my wife, and I ended up at the Standard Grill for Saturday brunch. We started with some of the specialty cocktails including the sunrise and the bloody mary and enjoyed both. I opted for steak and eggs, our friend for the strip steak, and the girls for the turkey club. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, after a long wait, it was a disaster. The fries were all ice cold and both steaks were incredibly dried out and overcooked. When we informed the waitress, she was very apologetic and immediately sent it back and we got new steaks and fries. This time they were excellent. Nice and moist and cooked correctly. The service in general was good, if not over attentive. Bonus points for taking care of the mistakes so quickly but I dont know why it took so long in the first place. Food as mentioned, was very good and made for an excellent introduction to NY brunch for our friends. The atmosphere was also very good and somehow a good mix of pastoral and art deco style.
