I recently went to this bar on Friday night to celebrate a friends birthday. My experience there was horrible. None of the bartenders would acknowledge me. Finally, after waiting and watching other customers being served, a bartender took my drink order. I was told the only way I could use my debit card was if I opened a tab and spent a minimum of $25. I was okay with this, because I planned on sending well over $25. I ordered my first drink, which cost $8. After finishing my drink, I went back to the bar to order two more drinks. I was once again ignored for an extended period of time. The same bartender from earlier finally came over to take my second drink order. I waited for 10-15 minutes for her to bring my drinks as she served others. I politely asked if she forgot about my drinks. She then proceeded to say that she was not going to serve me anymore drinks, because my friend was rude to her and that I am lucky that I wasnt thrown out. I told her if she was not going to serve me anymore drinks, then she needs to close my tab and give me my debit card back. It is impossible to spend a $25 minimum if I cant buy anything. I also explained that I should not be held accountable for another persons actions and that I was treated unfairly for a situation that had absolutely nothing to do with me. She apologized and gave me a free a drink. She also closed my tab and I paid for my $8 drink. The next morning I checked my back account and realized I was charged $50. Since then, every time I have spoken to an employee or manager at this bar, they have been unprofessional and rude. After being provided with false information about the transaction, it was finally explained that the $50 is merely a hold for opening a tab and I will only be charged $8 after the hold is removed. However, this establishment seems to lack any sort of customer service. The manager talked over me as I tried to explain myself and the bartenders are very selective about who they serve. I did recommend to the manager that they have a staff meeting to revamp their customer service skills. I also let him know that he lost out on a lot of money that night. I came with a huge group and the bartenders would not acknowledge my friends and I. Hence why my friend was rude. Although, I do not condone her behavior. I will never go to this bar again. I would give this bar a rating of zero stars, but that is not an option.

I was in the bar last Thursday with some friends. At the end of the night the lights went on signaling us it was time to go. One of my friends had purchased a drink right before the lights when on, and was trying to finish it quickly so we could go on our way. We all knew it was time to go and were getting ready to leave when the bouncer started yelling at us to "put your drinks down and get out and DONT MAKE ME SAY IT AGAIN". Really? I thought to myself, "is this how to treat paying customers?". The fact that they served us right before turning the lights on would have been ok, if we were allowed to finish our drinks. We were even rushing to finish, sharing the drinks between a few of us. But serving us and then having some classless bouncer yell at us as if we were children really got to me. Im sorry to say, but the act of one rude bouncer ruined my view of Black Bear and my friends and I will NOT be returning. Well take our business where they know how to treat their consumers.

The woman bartender downstairs was fabulous and attentive. The rest of the staff was lazy, rude and unprofessional. We were a fun and friendly bunch of 7 people that were not hard to please. The waitress brought our food to the table and the next time we saw her is when she brought our check. No offers to refill beverages, did not ask if we wanted dessert, nothing. Then they had the nerve to tack on a hefty, undeserved tip to the bill. Outrageous. Furthermore and more bothersome, I received constant uncalled for dirty looks from other female staff members throughout my patronage. I am not to blame for you being short, overweight or less attractive than I am, and I was a paying customer, not a random woman on the street. Incredibly unprofessional. There are many other places to visit in Hoboken (especially if you are an attractive woman). Do yourself a favor and skip this one!

3rd bar of the night with the same complaint. The most racist and vile staff and bouncers I have ever encountered. I went to Hoboken with my group of friends. Two of my friends are African Americans and were denied entry because of their clothing while other white individuals (including myself) were initially granted entry. There was absolutely nothing wrong with their attire and were simply denied based on the color of their skin while others wearing similar shoes and jackets were allowed to enter. When I spoke up I was kicked out, threatened, and touched by bouncers. This happened here, tally-hos, and mills all because the Tally Ho bouncer went to all the other bouncers and told them I was fighting for my friends rights. DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY.

I stopped in here this past weekend with a large group for drinks. The stand out feature here is their 25 foot wall of televisions behind the bar. This would definitely be a good spot to come and catch games. Theres also an upstairs with a second bar. While it did get crowded, we never felt squeezed in which was nice. They have a decent beer selection at relatively decent prices - I was happily surprised to see Fat Tire on tap. They have some pretty good deals depending on the night that youre there, its always worth asking. We were all happy here and enjoyed it. Id for sure come back.

Came here for lunch with coworkers. Ordered a guiness, but was served in a sierra nevada beer glass, and the glass seems smaller (i.e. american pint) vs. the guiness glasses typically used in bars. It was disappointing to get a smaller beer. Ordered a buffalo burger but somehow it got mixed up and turned into a slider. The food here is very, very average, okay for bar food, but given the decor and price I expected better. If I want quality food and drinks Id prob just head to the brass rail, on the other side of 2nd street.

One of the oldest bars on the Hoboken strip. It was refurbished few years ago and the decor is pretty decent and smart (it went through some rather grungy times previously). It has a huge bank of TV screens behind the bar including a very large composite screen which must be great for watching big games. If you dont want your senses assaulted by a huge barrage of TV screens when sitting up at the bar for a casual drink, its not quite so appealing. The draft beer seems to be reasonably well kept.

Terrible Bar, they cant accommodate for any parties larger than 4 people. All they do is adhere to their terrible polices but fail to understand their clients are human beings much less human beings that are intoxicated. Have no dignity and self respect and their clientele please stay away from this bar as much as possible if I can give them a zero star please let me know because thats what they deserve. And the LITs here are the worst Ive ever tasted.
