came here w/ a friend for restaurant week. we were warmly greeted upon entering the establishment and were seated promptly. the waiter was nice but he wasnt too well versed on what the bar has to offer. i asked if they serve mojito there and he said no.. .but then a manager who happened to pass by and said they do actually. i ordered that. the drink was only average but it was not terrible. i made mentioned to the waiter and mgr that the place was too hot and stuffy.. and they responded that the AC unit is broken. first i thought, well it is what it is but upon reading past comments from diners here, i find that abit sketchy. how can an AC be broken for 2-3 weeks without being fixed in a restaurant??? i see comments from way back in mid-June... now its mid-July already. perhaps its their way of cost cutting instead but i am a bit annoyed that they did not take customers comfort as top priority. we ordered the r/week menu w/ the pate (app), salmon (entree) and peach sorbet (dessert) combo. the food is just OK... no wow factor at all. presentation is average so was the taste. all in all, a very unmemorable meal except for constantly having to ask for water because it was so hot in there. My friend used the facility downstair and said that it felt like she was in a burning oven (more so than the dining area). i would not recommend this plc as the food is not worth the discomfort.

5 stars for this bistro that gives you a little taste of France. Having lived in Paris for a few years it was very nice to rekindle with the classics. I had heard many good things about this restaurant and decided to take one of my friends there for dinner. Both the bar and the restaurant were very busy and there was a good mix of people. As we were hungry we went straight to the dining room but I will definitely be back try the bar out. We decided to try La Tarte Flambee as a drink snack which was a very good choice. For starters we had the jumbo lump crab salad and the foie gras. The salad was light and refreshing and the foie gras was delicious. As main course I had the puff pastry crusted salmon and my friend had the Alsacian potato gnocchi. Both were very good. The service was very attentive and friendly and it was nice that they had so many French staff members. Definitely added to the experience! The sommelier listened to the type of wine we wanted and selected very well. Difficult to choose a desert from the various tempting suggestions...We settled for the nougat glace and the baba rum. Excellent. The restaurant was packed until late. It was a very pleasant environment to have dinner in so next time I miss La France I will come here. A tres bientôt!

Henri

Why do I feel as though Ive been transported to Paris every time my family and I dine at Benoit? Its simple: the ambience, though some would say is outdated, is charming and reminiscent of a classic French bistro; the staff is mostly French and, last but not least, the food is decadently classic French fare as it should be. Our staple dishes are escargot, raw oysters, and any of the traditional fish dishes with shaved truffles. We never leave without having the classic chocolate soufflé, which is spot on each and every time. The sommeliers, all of whom are very knowledgable, always recommend a Bordeaux or Margaux that is exquisite. Though we have been coming for years, at least once a week, we never get tired of leaving NY for a journey to Paris, if only for a few hours.

Worst French food in NY..I was lured by its interiors And regretted it big time.A simple chickpea soup Was awful..tasted stale ..bland..eeks.I thought Thats the worst until I saw the spaghetti which had been cut into small pieces. When I asked the server the reason for this,I was told That the pot is too small so cannot boil full length spaghetti .. I nearly fell of my chair ..I couldnt help laughing so hard. I asked for Creme brûlée which tasted like badly made custard. I dont know how others have given it any good rating. Please stay away from this place..its a rip off Probably still running because of innocent tourists. Ohh and the complimentary bread they serve Is stale and dry. The French will be truly embarrassed

From my experience chef Philippe Bertineau he is the best chef in town. The best kept secret. I have discovered his cuisine when he was at Payard bistrot and was already impressed by how he masters the temperature of cooking all meats, fishes and veggies. He will priviledge fragrant herbes over spices which garanties a better digestion and it is the only place in NY where the food is not too salty. When you know how to cook you dont have to load your dishes with salt and spices. And I have been in much more renown restaurants like Jean Georges, Daniel... each time I eat in one of those my admiration of chef Bertineau grows.

Benoit was a great experience. Classic and modern French in a bistro setting. Recently updated to include renovations, new chef, and new menu that is exciting and offers lots of options. Great bar program, signature cocktails, and an extensive wine list. Attentive staff, is friendly and informative. Interesting dining programs with a la carte, set menus, and special menus (recent event paired American BBQ with traditional French fare). Highly recommended, takes reservations, but open dining (outside when weather is nice) and bar are also good choices.

Yes! I found it. A group of friends and I ate at this place in 2010, and I have been searching up and down to find the name. Thank God I found a restaurant list I had emailed a friend before our trip to NYC. I found it through a GQ City Guide that has been since taken down. The atmosphere was quiet. And, everyone at the table swore they had ordered the best thing on the menu. Everything was to die for, and we were literally wrestling over the bill at the end for the chance to pay! Now, returning to New York with a different group, Benoit is a must.

Monday 17 June 2013 : We had our last lunch there after long weekend in New York City. Perfect. I felt a little under-dressed until more people arrived - some even in shorts. It is very "French" as expected. French waitress was warm and friendly (very "unfrench" :-)). Looked after our 1 year old Kyara so she and her parents were very comfortable throughout the lunch. The food was good. I had "moules". I should have been more daring. The house red wine was superb. Highly recommended for people who like a stylish lunch and good food.
