RUN!!!! Get very far away! There was a little girl running the cash register, and she didnt even look at me when she took my order. She never actually spoke at all, just looked at her phone. We waited 20 minutes for a tiny order (Which is acceptable I suppose, so I didnt take that into consideration when I gave this place 1 star). The girl came out, still wouldnt look at me, THREW the food AT me, the food was in a paper bag so it just fell EVERYWHERE and inside the bag was a HUGE mess. She still never spoke to me when she did this either. The chicken was really mediocre. If you arent allergic to KFC like I am you DEFINITELY need to go there instead. The greens on the other hand were the worst Ive had in my entire life. They were outright disgusting, so I gave them to someone else and they couldnt stomach it, so I gave it to someone else else and they actually did gag and almost throw up. Then she got my order wrong, I asked for mashed potatoes and they gave me some Mac N Cheese. Maybe if she would have spoke to me she wouldve been able to ask if my order was correct. The mac N cheese was thrown at me so it made a huge mess all over my bag. It wasnt as terrible as the greens, but if you want chicken and Mac N Cheese just run down the street to the Town And Country deli. 50 TIMES better, and they will actually acknowledge your presence and not throw food at you. PS. Also as far as greens go the Co-Op is okay. They dont prepare them like how I am used to them, but theyre actually yummy so I get them on occasion.

Pretty good. Chances are that itll be the best fried chicken in the area, but its not really the best fried chicken ever. The biggest thing is that its priced JUST high enough to make me not really want to go back very often, so I guess thats healthy? For a single chicken, some biscuits and sides, its $22. Not BAD, but still pretty hefty compared to some of the chicken places Ive eaten at before (e.g. Popeyes). A tiny plastic cup of sauce will run you $0.50. If it were a larger container of sauce, Id understand, but other restaurants would give you containers that small for free. The chicken itself was decent. As other reviews have mentioned, its not really oily on the outside, which is nice, but I think its at the expense of a less-tasty skin. The sides were pretty tasty, the mac-and-cheese in particular. Overall, if I REALLY wanted fried chicken, I might go here again, but it didnt really make me want it again right away, which SHOULD be the case of good food.

The only reason they get two stars is because the mashed potatoes and gravy were good. Otherwise it was a disappointment and certainly not Southern. The mac and cheese was acceptable and the tea drinkable but not real sweet tea (it was Northern sun tea with a few tsp of sugar stirred in). The fried chicken and biscuits were a complete disappointment. Just because chicken is cooked in a tub of grease doesnt make it Southern fried chicken, there is an art to it. This chicken was cooked in grease that was not up to temperature and the result was over cooked breading, dry meat, and pools of grease in between. Not good. As for the biscuits, they were from a can and over cooked. Seriously! Biscuits are one of the easiest things to bake and they messed them up! Over all, we were not happy. After spending $40 on a meal, we ate less than half of it, and didnt even bother to get a to-go box. If you want Southern this far north, try Zydeco.

jul 2016: Coming from the South, theres nothing special going on here. We shared 1/2 basket fried chicken w/ 2 sides. Chicken was fried too long, almost black, and to the point the skin was very tough and had an extremely hard, dry crunch. We asked server for an extra plate and was told I had to go back inside and ask at the kitchen for a plate. Also, they advertise homemade specialty sauces come with your meal...but you have to pay $.50 for each 2oz container! Redemption was found in their Mac and Cheese, topped with bacon and chives. Maybe okay place for locals, but I wont be back.

2 stars because of their history, but HOLY COW did we get screwed here las time. We got a half chicken meal, spicy nashville style. First off the spicy Nashville seasoning is apparently $2 extra; we were not informed. The breast was overcooked and dry. I wanted to try collard greens since I have never had them. They were inedible because of the amount of salt! We ordered a side sauce to try out as well. We paid for it, but we never got it! I have been here a few times and the food is usually pretty good, but I cant believe the low quality of food we got!

My $9 roost salad was probably overpriced for lunch, but it was very good as it was a large portion and had tons of spun chicken on it over the lettuce. I also tried the mashed potatoes and fried chicken, and both were also good. It was 1pm on a Saturday and the small space was completely full, so the three of us had to wait for someone to leave before we could sit down. As for atmosphere, I would describe this place as fast-dining, simple and fun. You order at the counter and seat yourself - a good place for a quality meal in a relaxed setting.

I love the food here! The owner is amazingly nice, and I think the food is SO FREAKING GREAT! I know thats redundant, but it has to be said and cant be overstated. This isnt a place to go if you are in a hurry. So maybe if you are on lunch call in your order, cuz they aint makin it till ya order it. The place is small, but once you get that chicken and sweet tea in your hands you would happily sit on the ground under a tree outside. (Never happened so far, Ive always been able to grab a seat :) The Roost! TRY IT! YOULL LIKE IT!

We have ordered lunch from The Roost a few times for our company lunches. If youve ordered lunch for 20+ people you can sympathize with the overwhelming task, but the Roost has gone above and beyond every time weve ordered. Today we happened to place another order, everything was as ordered and we received everything correctly! The owner was kind enough to help me out with all the boxes of food, and said he triple checked the order but if we were missing anything to let me know and he would run it down to us. WHAT GREAT SERVICE!!

Fantastic new chicken place in Bozeman. Great breading on the fried chicken thats spicy without being overpowering. The Alabama sandwich is my personal favorite item, the white sauce on it unlike anything Ive had before and ridiculously good. The nice decor, music selection, and friendly staff made Roost well worth the visit. The chicken is prepared fresh, which means a brief wait, during which you should savor the home-made sweet tea. Ill never go to KFC again.
