Happy National Fried Chicken Day! And then there was one. It may be that this is last Pioneer Chicken standing and everything should be done to keep it open. So, let me tell you why you should go with a friend and family and then have them take their friends and family and so on.... Do you like chicken? Youll love this chicken. The chicken skin is crispy and delicious. If they would and I know I could, I would order a bucket of just chicken skin. While the outside of the chicken is crispy, the meat is tender and juicy. Also, try their mashed potato and gravy it is great. Not to mention their buttery biscuits. These biscuits are sure to rival any southern style ones.

The service is terrible theres kids working there not even with uniform. There wearing sports shirts I wish I could email the owner and give her or him so heads up about his restaurant. Performance is important not to be wearing big shirts also the other guy who is there has a wear hair net. The dinning place needs and upgrade did take some pictures will report health department about this will never go back and eat there. Also people when you go make sure theres no ROACHES I saw a couple of them. Took pictures of that Nasty place to eat. The other pioneer is better

I love this place like a fat kid loves cake. Now that I think about it, thats probably why I was so fat when I was little. Theres just something about that unnaturally orange crack batter which makes it so good and addictive. The chicken always comes out super hot, the batter is perfectly crispy and the meat is juicy. This is the ultimate comfort food. I will warn you that the chicken is extremely greasy so you will get your hands messy and its best to eat this in small quantities. Im pretty sure that whatever material this chicken touches will become transparent.

Love this popular landmark! The chicken is indescribable. For fried chicken, it tastes moist, juicy and somehow light! Their biscuits and cole slaw compliment their chicken very well. The biscuits are rich and tastes like a cross between a hearty buttermilk biscuit and a light, sweet cornbread. The cole slaw is light and perfectly sweetened - its not drowning in mayo. Definitely will make another trip out there! Im SOOOOOOOO happy we live SO far away from this restaurant - otherwise Id be seriously overweight!

This location is very clean, food is awsome. Chicken n gizzards exactly the same as back in the day, just as yummy. Young lady at counter very nice, very sweet. Told her i had driven down from Oxnard cause the restaurant up here closed twenty years ago and i miss Pioneer. The interior is untouched but clean very retro 70s decor.Tables n benches all original, very cool for me,felt like a kid again with the original 70s interior decor. I recommend this location for anyone craving Pioneer Chicken.

We drive all the way from OAKLAND Ca to get this one of a kind best damn fried chicken on the planet! All the locations here closed in the late 80s and I can still remember that heavenly taste it had as a kid...still tastes exactly the same! That is a million dollar recipe for fried chicken! How KFC and Popeyes are in business with a competitor like this boggles my mind! DONT EVER CLOSE THE FEW LAST LOCATIONS! Wed love you to come back to Oakland! Go RAIDERS!

OMG I thought Pioneer was closed for good. It was like torture watching the franchises in the Bay Area slowly close one by one until they were all gone. Forget In n Out Burger, this was LAs greatest contribution to the fast food/fried chicken niche.Their quality completely dwarfed KFC and the others. Is the LA location the only remaining open franchisee?

The chicken here is very tasty, and their side dishes are tasty as well. I remember eating Pioneer fried chicken ever since I was a little kid, and the chicken they make here today still tastes the same. Its a shame that they do not have many restaurants around town, I wish they would have more. Overall a nice place for a quick lunch.

Many people mistakenly believe that Pioneer Chicken no longer exists. Here in Boyle Heights you can find one of the last remaining examples of this rare breed. Here you will find the biggest, juiciest pieces of chicken with the crispiest, crunchiest, golden skin anywhere. A favorite of locals and a hidden gem for those in the know.

Its an icon from the 80s where grease didnt matter much. Taste was what people we after. This chain went away when Popeyes chicken purchased the chain. There were a few left but now its just this one. It tastes great as it was back then. For todays healthy standards its very greasy

This is one of only two Pioneer Chickens that remain. They offer a two piece chicken combo with a side of mashed potatoes for $3.53. You can also get an order of gizzards, yum. This is the best fried chicken I have ever had. They have a small parking lot but it is never full.

This place is very nostalgic for me and after 37 yrs, every time I bite into their chicken it always takes me back to my child hood, the recipe has not changed and this place has not been touched by time, its almost as if its still stuck in a 1970s paradox.

So excited to find a Pioneer Chicken in LA! It was situated in a sketchy area, I wouldnt recommend coming here at night, but I think we waited too long to eat it. The skin wasnt as crispy as I remembered it, made me sad. Boo.
