These nay saying user comments are infuriating...Dont listen to the one star reviews who claim theyve been cheated or are boycotting the VERY friendly owner/pitmaster because he apparently "plays the race card". Furthermore, if you get a piece of gristle in your mouth from your BBQ porcine intercostal, SPIT IT OUT or just go back to the mundane chicken breasts you were eating. BBQ is not about appearances or quality of service and its not the best place to go for a business lunch.... BBQ is, however, about the flavors that go into the secret sauce the pitmaster brews every week and the plumes of carcinogen-laden smoke that issue from the indoor pit that let you know that youre going to eat a heap of smoke impregnated meat. Crosstown may not be the best BBQ in the US (that title, for me, goes to Dexters in SE MO), but its the best and most genuine in Springfield and I hope anyone reading this will give the guy a chance to impress your palate.

Edit: Upon checking my bank account balance online after eating at Crosstown I realized that after I paid they added to my original bill and also the bills of the two friends who went with me. ***CROSSTOWN ADDED TO MY ORIGINAL BILL*** Original: The barbecue is decent enough that Id go back to Crosstown on occasion, but the prices were a bit steep. $15 (after tip) for a barbecue sandwich, fries, cole slaw and a drink seems too much, especially considering the average quality of the food (the bread was thin, plain, store-bought white bread). The portions were a bit lacking too, considering the price. Almost forgot: the first thing I noticed after sitting down and looking out the window was the bullet hole in said window.

Ive been eating here since my pre-kindergarten years. Steve always goes out of his way to make people feel welcome. The other guys....not so much. Im not saying they give bad customer service by any means, but its just obvious that Steve has his heart in it while the other guys are kind of just along for the ride. The food quality is excellent. I think the side item portion sizes are a little small, and the prices are a tad on the high side, so I dont go there often, but I still come back now and then. Theres history there and I like that its more than just a business.

There are many other BBQ eaterys in town Id rather enjoy. I have tried Crosstown and, yeah, it was ok. They play ads eluding to the fact white people cant BBQ and it is something they are better suited for. Not withstanding my own pit creations, there are a few in town that are beter, including chains. I am glad the owners have built a buisness for themselves but I feel it is time to quit playing the race card and I will not eat there again until they do.

The que is well smoked, the sauces are good, try them both, the sides are good, the fries are hand cut double fried, and come out a beautiful golden brown, had the big daddy, I thought the presentation was odd, he slices the hotlink in a meat slicer to make thin slices out of it, he does the same for the brisket, which im not a huge fan of, but it was still good, thin as it was, I enjoyed the ribs, would go back, but definitely asking for thicker cuts.

Let me start out saying that Crosstown was my wife and my favorite restaurant; we would eat there at least once a month. I don’t know what has happened but it is not the same restaurant it was a year ago. We have not been happy the last three times that we have had their food. The service has been terrible and the portions have gotten smaller. I think I will be trying some of the barbeque restaurants on the south side of town.

Family owned, this family friendly BBQ restaurant has been feeding Springfieldians for two generations. I ordered The Nana which is a choice of three meats and two sides. My girlfriend said the fries were awesome and she loved the okra also. Whether your looking to sit down with some friends or pick up and take home to family, Crosstown BBQ is a garaunteed favorite food destination!

Crosstown BBQ came highly recommended by the owner of the Springfield Hot Glass Studio and it did NOT disappoint!! We had a taste of just about everything, the brisket, ham, pork, ribs, catfish, BBQ beans and potato salad.... Every bite was amazing!!!! The folks that work there we SO nice!! Thank you Crosstown for a great vacation memory!!

I came here with my family. Nobody liked it. The food was cold, and the portion sizes were tiny. Im not entirely sure the fries were even cooked, it was like they were only defrosted. The waitress was rude as hell. Im not sure if our experience was anomalous, but our experience was so bad Im not at all tempted to find out.

A friend of my fathers recommended this place so we tried it. Im so glad we did. Came up from the lake of the Ozarks and was not disappointed. You have to try the spicy bbq on the bbq platters. It has a decent kick but it tastes really good. The services was also really good so thats an A+ for them.

By far the worst barbecue Ive ever had. I was really hungry and hoping from the 2 good reviews on here that I would be satisfied, guess I should have paid attention to the "nay saying" user comments which factually portray the true quality (or lack thereof) of the food... My Grade: F-

Northside Lunch Must. If you are looking for a Springfield BBQ place, thanks to a great marketing effort and great location placement you have heard of another place, but if you like a BBQ with a thin sauce with a spicy kick, you must try this place.

When youve had real Texas bbq all other bbq tastes mediocre. Really wish they didnt slice their meat so thin..its hard to tell whether its good bbq or not. And I find it really weird that they slice the links. The spicy sauce is really good.

Im from KC and love BBQ. This place is definitely in my top 3 favorite barbeque restaurants of all time. The owner is very friendly and took the time to get to know our names. I felt like I was in a place with friends.

Local favorite. We always get one of the "mama" or "papa" meals and split it. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is homey and has a nice small town feel.
