Worst restaurant Ive been to in a long time for the price. We met some friends for a birthday dinner, they had already started at 5:30 with other friends for drinks. Most of the first group left and we continued on for dinner. The service was very disappointing never brought new silverware and napkins upon arrival for dinner. Once appetizers arrived had to ask for plates and new tableware. When ordered drinks took a while to receive and kept having to ask for more water. Appetizers were good however. We ordered the special which was a Kansas City strip, it was talked up by one of the managers as the best on the menu. Then given this talk about a special mushroom to add that was $800 a pound and absolutely amazing. We all got the strip and a few added the special mushroom. We waited 45-1hr for our dinner to arrive (the waitress did apologized several times) with the restaurant barely crowded on a Friday night, which I can see how now. A big presentation was made of this "special mushroom" with the chef coming out himself to grate it on two of my girlfriends plates that ordered it, turns out no one like it. My steak which I ordered medium rare was rare with lots of fat. It looked like a steak that just came out of the freezer, not a top steak you would expect from a nice restaurant. I sent it back reluctantly knowing it would probably be put in a microwave once returned, and sure enough!! Then continued on with dessert that was also very mediocre. All of this experience was done without one of us complaining! I just typically dont complain, then just never return if I dont like a restaurant, well that was until the bill came. The waitress failed to get several drinks paid for from the party that was at the table early in the evening. Instead of talking this over with us she just added it to our $500 bill. Really! So the table was too confusing for you to keep track of the drinks and so that is our problem and in turn are responsible for other people drinks. After arguing with her about the situation, it was too bad so sad you people are paying. Not, let me see what I can do, let me talk to my manager. She basically blamed it on us that there were so many people coming and going and she just couldnt keep up. Umm isnt that a waitress responsibility? Can you imagine going to a restaurant and the people next to you didnt pay and you being held responsible? Needless to say we paid and left the restaurant marking this off the list as to never return. Too bad so sad for them, my husband and I eat out and socialize frequently and enjoy nice restaurants. This one will not be on the list in the future. PS, I have never written a review before, but this was so disappointing that I felt strongly to do so.

My husband and I recently visited the highly esteemed Jax Fish House on a busy Saturday night in Kansas City, MO. The service was absolutely excellent. The staff checked on my table several times before, during, and even after our meal to ensure that we were fully satisfied. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and had plenty of suggestions. Appetizer: We had the steamed mussels in roasted tomato sauce and chorizo. There was a well-orchestrated explosion of flavor in the dish. Customers also have the choice to add pasta to make it a complete dish. The sauce is very rich and I believe WHEN I return, I have this. We also had the hushpuppies which had pimento cheese inside with a sweet red pepper relish as a dip. Again, absolutely delicious and a new take on an old favorite. Dinner: I had the Hot Messy Shrimp. This bowl is comprised of (from bottom to top) rancho gordo beans in broth, andouille sausage, grilled red potatoes, and a side of “comeback sauce” for your four large shrimp. Very good and different. I want to compare it to a gumbo, but it is more than that. It is also NOT spicy! While we enjoyed our dinner, we ran into a little issue. I will say that this restaurant really cares about their customers. (The manager and the chef came to the table.) Their recovery was great and is one of the reasons I have no reservations about returning. The portions weren’t as large as I would expect for the price, but I don’t eat at restaurants like this one often. I do believe that I got exactly what I paid for and more. The food here is not ordinary or something you can make at home and I love that! We will be back. Thank you for making our anniversary night amazing!

I finally got the chance to experience Jax on a Tuesday for happy hour and I wasnt disappointed. My friend, her seven week old son and I stayed there for about 2.5 hours enjoying a ton of things off the happy hour and special tasting menu they created in partnership with Cinder Block Brewery. We arrived right at 4pm when they opened for dinner with reservations. Good thing too, 30 minutes later the tables were all gone. I started with a 1/2 dozen of the happy hour oysters. They were small but sweet and briny with a great texture. We also had the spicy tuna (2 orders actually), wedge salad, chorizo mussels, burrata, fruit de mer, and cider pork belly spring roll. All of the dishes were very tasty and a bit on the small side but fine for happy hour and sharing with the prices ranging around $6-8 per order and $13 for the pork belly on the special menu but that also came with a drink pairing. A few interesting things to note, the place was packed by 5pm so make a reservation if you can or battle it out with Plaza workers for a spot at the bar. The happy hour crowd was very interesting, a lot of pretty people and some 60/30 action going on. We saw several older gentlemen experience a wide range of success/failure with young women in tight dresses. Also of note, the bathrooms do not have trash cans, neither the mens or womens. They have cloth towels which is a great green choice, but if a kid has a diaper incident like we did theres nowhere to put them. Maybe its a deliberate design to keep babies out or merely an oversight. Just FYI.

We made a reservation for 12 for my mothers 60th birthday. The website only allowed for 8 but upon calling the restaurant, it wasnt a problem to get the extra 4 people. The restaurant was clean and unique. All of the staff were very professional and welcoming. Our server, Adam, let us know from the beginning that he was ready to have some fun with us. This was something I have never really experienced with such sincerity. At other establishments, the waiter usually seems either annoyed or intimidated. Not Adam, he was on his A game and did his job. It was very appreciated. I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed the food(and drinks). To put it simply, its high quality seafood prepared in unique ways. There were several things that we didnt get to try that well have to keep coming back. The best moment for me was when either the GM or the owner (not sure which one it was) came out and entertained the 4 children that were a part of our party. This wasnt just a guy coming out and telling a funny joke, he talked to them about all the fish in the aquarium and even took them to the back and gave them a full tour. He was doing such a great job, we didnt even go with him. Ive never had an experience like this in my life. I absolutely have to recommend this place. I noticed there is a one star review here that really needs to be removed and I wouldnt even take it into consideration. Clearly they have/had a personal vendetta that the management tried to fix yet the review is still there. Great job guys! We will certainly be back!
