It seems like every time I come here something goes wrong. The first time I was here the service was absolutely terrible, the server was rude and inattentive. Decided to give Barbette a second change a week ago. This time the server was incredible, he was friendly, helpful and a real professional. Sadly something went wrong with our order and the kitchen never got our food out until nearly 50 minutes after we placed our order. The server handled the situation very well, I think he is the only one keeping that place together. A manager came over at one point and acted oblivious to the kitchen error, he acted like a child who broke his mothers vase but didnt want to admit he was wrong. The server came over after the manager and took care of the situation perfectly. Barbettes food is good, nothing special, classical french seen through a Minnesota lens. The atmosphere is nice and fun, an enjoyable place to wait while the kitchen cooks. The hostess, and manager were not friendly, but the server was incredible. If I return it will be for the amazing service we received from the server, I wish I asked his name. -If the owners read this, the server had a very close hair cut, almost shaved and a faintly British Isles accent, this guy needs a commendation!-

Having spent a serious amount of time in France and to paraphrase what someone else wrote, "French" is a big stretch. We were 5 for dinner and my husband said it was the worst value he can remember. I completely agree. Our daughter and granddaughter split a steak with a sauteed vegetable (spinach, I think). The steak was tough they said and to add insult to injury, we were charged $15 for the extra plate!!! My husbands fish was overcooked he said. Definitely nothing special. My salad Nicoise was poorly prepared (this is NOT a difficult dish to make) and a poor value including two very tiny pieces of tuna (at least they were seared as requested) and raw potatoes. I told the server about the potatoes. Twenty minutes later she brings me back cold diced potatoes (like hash type). Flavorless. No anchovy. Dressing lacked "tang", the whole thing at the wrong temperature as if it had been pre-made. Very dissapointing. The server did finally take the salad off our bill but STiLL we paid over $200 for meals that were mediocre at best. Very expensive for what we got. On a positive, the casual atmosphere was pleasant on a warm summer evening but we wouldnt go back.

Barbettes food is fantastic! Atmosphere and setting are delightful. Drink menu is plentiful and theres always fresh non-alcoholic beverages available, including a flavorful and fulfilling coffee always on the ready. Its quaint, intimate, and a perfect spot for hanging out with friends, going on a date, or brunching with family. The only thing that bugs me about this place, from time to time, is the service. Its inconsistent, and your experience will vary greatly depending on who your sever is. I once had to ask my server 3 times to bring out some extra simple syrup for my iced tea. Not a huge deal, of course. But, given its reputation and French homage, its the little things that you expect, and can greatly affect your experience. A word of caution: the french fries and bernaise sauce are incredibly addictive. Consume with caution! Overall, a great restaurant and a go-to for many local Minneapolitans.

Went here for Anniversary dinner. Apps were fresh and delicious. We had a half order of mussels and the fondue. The garlic/butter/wine sauce on the mussels could almost be a beverage. Server brought us more baguette for sopping it up without us even asking. I had lamb chops with the daikon and peas/cippolini onions. Perfectly cooked. Wife had flat iron steak frites. Frites are some of the best I have ever tasted but the saffron aioli was just ok. Dessert was beignets with ginger graham cracker ice cream. I would love to have that ice cream available in take home containers as it was the highlight of the dish. Total bill with 3 drinks was almost exactly $100. Overall service was a little slow. Especially when the dinner rush started. We waited > 20 mins for dessert requiring a trip to the nearby parking meter sonit didnt expire.

Nice atmosphere, nice service. Came for brunch which doesnt look to be their specialty. The quiche was dry and the vegetables in it where tomatoes and peas. Very disappointing. The side salad tasted like it was picked directly off the tree with nothing drizzled over it. The sunny side up eggs with barely toasted toast and dry bacon but good hash browns was not worth $9 the menu showed nor the $11 that we were charged for some reason. The Bellini was just straight cava champagne but the waitress was very helpful in fixing that. I noticed people getting served eggs Benedict after we ordered but never saw it on the menu then I eventually realized we were never told the specials. Ill come back to try dinner or lunch which seems to look a lot better than what I just experienced.

I took two friends from overseas there. But I got a waiters elbow on the back of my head and I thought that was bad enough. Then, the wine came. I am not sure how they pour the wine there, but the wine glasses were dripping at the base with wine and dripped onto one of my friends shirt as he took his first sip. I saw my glass was about to drip onto mine but caught it before it happened. I knew my friend was upset about his shirt although he kept quiet while I squirmed in my embarrassment during the meal. No one remembered how the food was because of all of this. I dont think anyone wanted to remember.

Well prepared cuisine. We ordered linguine and risotto and both had fantastic texture and good flavor. Mussels were high-quality and in a rich broth; not one mussel had an off flavor, which is either good luck or a mark of quality. Fries were decent, but certainly not worthy of the Best of Twin Cities designation they claim to have won. The dining room is a bit sparse with concert posters promoting Bastille Day to decorate the walls, but its appropriate to the cafe-bar style theyre after. The prices are too steep for me to be a regular, but the food was good enough that Id consider Barbette for a splurge.

I had a great experience at Barbette based on food and wine. Service can be inconsistent depending on how full the restaurant is during dinner. The one time we had a long wait to get our entrees, the waitress made up for it by handing out free pommes frites tokens. She acknowledged the delay and apologized up and down for the service. I came here recently on a cold night and had the larger portion of mussels and the chicken entree to share which hit the spot. I was also happy with the wine selection and ended up with a recommendtaion from our server. Ill be back to check out the brunch menu.

My first time there last night and it was the worst experience ever. It took more than 20 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered appetizer and was told we have to specify it come out before the entrees. Two of our entrees had hairS and when we complained, we just got a shrug, so then we had to pay for more food to come out and never got an apology or reduction in price. Evidently, it was our fault they put hair in our food. For a $300 bill, I was extremely disappointed and would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.
