Not a great place to be. Read the previous reviews and found that most of the Indians hated it and mostly non Indians liked it. Maybe because Indians know how Indian food tastes like. Just adding few masalas, does not make Indian food, even if you have an experience of over 40 years. Had to forcibly go here as I had purchased a coupon. And I also wanted to see why this place had so many bad reviews. After we were seated, papad was brought to out table which was half uncooked. I do have a picture clicked of it. I had done a good research on this place so that I dont order garbage. So, I order meat samosas and tandoori chicken wings which were good, but not the best. Then for entrees we had butter chicken, dhansak and garlic chicken. Whoever cooked butter chicken: it is not made from chicken kabab, Sir! You need to add normal pieces of chicken to it. You dont mix leftover kababs and tomato gravy. Dhansak: 2/5 Not wow! Garlic Chicken: Again 2/5 I liked meat samosas the best, although I could find really little meat in it. The owner is so arrogant as if he has the best restaurant in town! Lol He does not even greet his guests. Even an American can open an Indian restaurant and make food better than we have in India. So why not you being from around India make the better Indian food and be less arrogant? It is in such a great location, you can improve the reputation of your restaurant. COMING TO THE WORST PART: The server who served us, poor guy, I feel so bad for him. After tipping him pretty well(18% of the whole bill) he literally begged in front of me saying the owner does not pay the servers well and they live only on tips. I felt really bad for him. Stop treating them like your slaves. Pay them! And I even saw a weird scene where the waitress was badly scolding that guy in the dining area. Is this your training? Stop spoiling Indias name! I did not want to sound rude but the way the owner is, he has to understand! I will never go back to this place again and will also stop my friends making a mistake by going here. Hope you improve a lot lot lot!

I came in and tried Moti Mahal because of the Groupon I purchased and it made my decision to go there all the better. To start off the food was fantastic, Being Indian myself I have been to many Indian places over the years, and this is by far one of the best I had. Everything was nicely spiced and full of flavor. I had the Butter Chicken, which was a perfect blend of cream and chicken tikka. It was lightly garnished with a hint of coconut and almond which gives it points for presentation. My partner had a curry which is a more traditional Indian dish, very simple yet had a very full and flavorful taste. We complimented our dish with a side of garlic naan which our waiter explained was nicely cooked in the clay oven, adding a very nice texture and taste to it. It went very well with our dishes. The decor and ambiance was delightful, the room was nicely lit and a collection of artwork adorned the walls of the beautifully covered walls. Although it was a hot summer day outside the room itself was nicely cool due to air conditioning. The entire place was also furnished very well, we were sitting on very comfortable leather seats, I almost fell asleep due to the lush combination of the decor and chairs. Although the decor and food speak for themselves I was especially pleased with our service. Our waiter thoroughly explained in a general nutshell the style of Indian served at Moti Mahal. He went on to perfectly explain his recommendations. My water always filled and I felt very welcomed. The manager then came out and gave me a brief history of the place and how its been family business for years. I felt as if the staff knew exactly what they were talking about and using their knowledge to help me pick the dish that is best for me. I will definitely come back and will rave about this place to all my friends!

My husband and I have been on a streak of eating at South Asian restaurants for the past two weeks, all for the purpose of finding butter chicken that can compare to our homemade version. We tasted butter chicken at restaurants throughout metro Detroit, Lansing, and Chicago. After a number of places with horrendous wait service (waiters standing around with no one providing menus), an appalling clientele (an employee or customers child running up and sticking his hands in our food), and sub-par, oil-laden, flavorless food, we finally found a restaurant that provides excellent service and phenomenal food. The service was great. Waiters and servers stopped by our table to refill water and ask if we needed anything. The atmosphere and decor were lovely, and the environment was clean, two things that can rarely be said about South Asian restaurants. We didnt wait extremely long for our food, as we often do at other places. We ordered butter chicken and lamb jalfrezi. The butter chicken was perfectly portioned, with maybe a bit more chicken than gravy, but that is hardly something to complain about. The lamb was wonderfully tender, and the sauce and vegetables made it the best jalfrezi I have ever tasted. (I am South Asian and grew up with these foods.) The garlic naan was crisp and warm. We also ordered masala chai, a perfect end to a perfect meal. We will definitely return again!

Before this place opened me and my family would often go weekends to far off resturants because there wasnt an Indian cuisine in RO. Since Feburary since the place opened me and my family had been extrememly satisfied. i have to admit i havent been there in quite some time due to personal reasons but my family go there at least once every other week. i never had a problem with the buffet and as before mentioned it was probably due to arriving at a late hour if you arrive around 12-1 you shouldnt have any problem but the buffet does end around 3 so obviously it cant be warm in that time area. from the menu the butter chicken and tikka biryani are among my favorite dishes. i never had a problem with the food being bland and i find it extrememly flavorful. also, the service is freindly and our waiter even took the time to explain the variety of Indian dishes along with his own background in various locations. our table was checked upon frequently and not in an annoying way and my wife is always recommending this place to her co-workers and freinds. Moti Mahal did open up in February so its been a good deal of time since then. if you decide to judge this resturant by its opening month you'll be doing yourself an injustice.

I had the lunch buffet on a weekend at Moti Mahal, the food was totally cold. One look at the buffet totally took away all the enthusiasm for trying this new place. They did not refill any of the empty containers, so it was disappointing to pay for the few leftovers. I decided to give it a try only because I was really hungry. The attendents were only paying attention to customers ordering a-la-carte, so there was a loong wait before anyone served us Naan. They did not refill the Naans in the buffet either. The food was bland with too much artificial coloring added to the tandoori and butter chicken. The lamb biryani was good. They charge slightly less that other Indian restaurants for their buffet but there is no variety. The tea, dessert were also very disappointing in taste. Too much cinammon in the tea making it BITTER and the Rice Kheer was dry and lumpy. Since they have just started, I hope they respond well to feedback because their current performance is totally lacklustre. The good location and ambience will not sustain them for long. I will drive the extra mile to go to Mayur anyday!
