Troy appears to have a number of Indian restaurants, but there’s two excellent ones on Rochester Road, within a few blocks of each other. I’ve been traveling to the area from Chicago, which has a number of good Indian restaurants itself, including the wonderful India House. So I asked where I might find good fare in this area was referred to the Royal Indian. Then I discovered that the Ashoka was just down the street to the south, so I tried them both for their lunch buffet. Both were quite good. I would have to give the edge to the Royal Indian, which was spicier than the Ashoka. The spicier the better, I say, although not all would adhere to that practice. It also seemed to have more vegetarian dishes, not that I’m one, but if you’re a vegetarian you might try the Royal Indian first. However, don’t expect to have wine or a good Indian beer with your meal – the Royal Indian is dryer than a bar that Carrie Nations had just chopped up. Which isn’t unusual in these suburbs and I’m not sure why. Outside of Utah, I’ve never been anywhere where so many restaurants do not serve alcohol. So if you simply must have a bevvie with lunch, then you should to the Ashoka instead.

Will come back again 3 attendants in white/black uniform assist you through the journey. 14 items on the buffet menu plus 1 soup and a couple of desserts. Lamb curry dish was my favorite. I also enjoyed the Aloo Tikki vegetable patties and I found very interesting the Aloo Bhindi Masala (fried okra). If you are in for spicy hot, try the Mirch Ka Salon (orange color sauce with hot peppers). Your tongue will be on fire for 3 minutes but it is worth the pain. All comes with a soft and warm Naan bread basket replenished at will. For a little extra you can indulge the Kulfi ice cream that comes in 4 flavors. The score came short of one star because of the execution on the Tandoori Chicken and a minimalist fruit choice. Overall this under-10$ buffet is more than just a decent lunch treat.

Had gone for dinner with my friends at 9:45PM in the last week of March 2016. Ordered the starters veg and non veg. It was directly made using the ready to eat Indian packed food. They just applied a hot oil spice mixed on top. Next, we ordered two main course kadhai paneer and kadhai chicken. The gravy was a tomato oriented and it was exactly the same in both the cases. Now coming to the service, the waitress used the plate to push the spoon lying on the table. When bill arrived, an additional 4 percent were added on clarification request, they said it is additional service charge post 10 PM. I would strongly advice ot to go this place for dinner.

Very enjoyable experience, everyone had a great meal. My 19 year old daughter wanted to go here for her birthday dinner. Out of the whole group I was the only one who didnt get a chicken dish and the only one who was brave enough to get something spicy. The nice thing about the way they serve the dishes it was easy to share and try each others main course. The naan bread that came with the main course was very good and everyone had no problem having second helpings. Now not for everyone, if you know you enjoy Indian food this place is a nice place for a sit down lunch or dinner.

The waitress are least bothered about anything. The food was horrendous. We were starving when we entered. The moment we had our first bite, our hunger vanished. The food was absolutely tasteless. I have never written a single review about any restaurants. This food quality has made me write a review from the restaurant itself. Better cook at home rather than eating this food. The less said about the waitress the better it is. No requests about the quality of food. No refill of water. Please stay hungry rather than eating this food.

Very very very worst!! The bearers there are very cheap. They are 1000000 miles away from professionalism. They illtreat customers. They will never care about you after taking the initial order. They even will not give you the bill even after 20 min when u have finished your diner.. I would never never recommend this restaurant!!!! After coming out of the restaurant u will have a very disturbed mind set due to the treatment inside the restaurant!!! Worst restaurant I have ever seen!! But as far as food taste will be nice!!!!

I happen to like, no love spicy food but wife has a much lower tolerance. Chicken Vindaloo is one of my favorites and I like it hot. The last 3 times we have ordered food from here I got the Chicken Vindaloo and my wife got a rice dish. I very clearly told them mild for the rice and hot for the chicken. They constantly get this wrong, my wifes food is hot and mine tastes medium at best. So unless you like gambling on how spicy your food will be I would have to say dont go here, they cant get an order right.

This place is awesome! Of course not every dish they have is excellent, but they specialize in North Indian food and Indo-Chinese dishes. Pick up orders are ready upon arrival, I love their Chicken Manchurian Dry Appetizer! The waitresses are very friendly and their tandoori chicken is moist and tasty! Prices are lower than average. My amazing experiences here have prompted me to completely discontinue my visits to the other Indian place just down the street.

The staff needs to be a bit professional, they keep murmuring constantly in native language forming a group. They have been taught to greet with "hello, how many?" To "thank you, have a nice day". The 3 star i have rated above is for the food served the staff got the other 2. We were served roties even before we could return from the washroom, meanwhile we were busy deciding and checking the starters the roties turNed to be papads with sharp edges.

worst food in Troy, went to buffet there. nothing is good there ... raw tandoori chicken , kheer in a small bowl, very very dry yellow rice seems like reheated and serving from multiple days , stinky smell in gulab jobs when you cut them and it feels like they were in the fridge for a long time and reheated in hot sugar syrup. Their butter chicken is the worst , tastes like chicken pieces marinated in tomato paste

Vegetarian food we ordered - It is good. Concern on Chicken Biriyani - It is NOT a biriyani at all. Just basmati rice and some gravy prepared instantly are mixed up. Chicken is not cooked well. I just tasted a bit and put it aside. If you guys doesnt have the biriyani please do not give this kind of biriyani. Overall good for vegetarian dishes not for Non vegetarian dishes.

My friends and I read various reviews for Indian cusine in the area, finally choosing Royal Indian. We were very pleased with the taste of the food, the amounts of the food, the help the waiter provided and the ambiance. The butter chicken (makhini) was awesome!! We had 2 appetizers, 4 entrees and 4 mango drinks, our bill was $66. We will definately be eating here again.

Authentically prepared and delicious Indian Cuisine - moderately priced, friendly, and many local Indian families frequent this place which must be telling of its authenticity. They have a great buffet as well which is a great way to sample many different dishes. By far the best Indian restaurant in Oakland County (Troy, Rochester, Madison Heights).
