A few years ago this place use to be really good. It was my first experience eating indian food, It has now become my favorite type of food. I went back there a week ago and it was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. The only worse experiences I have had are because of food poisioning. My glass was completly filthy, when the waitor filled my glass with water there were specs of what I assume was old food from a previous customer. Upon getting the traditional sauces I found a hair in one of them. Besides the fiflth the food was an even worse experience. The appitizer sampler could barley pass at a fast food restaurant. Plainly it was a fried potato, fried onion rings, and fried peppers, and one samosa that was drenched with grease in the inside. When the chicken tikka masala arrived the basmati rice was half spongy, but the naan was actually fairly good. The actual chicken tikka masala had no flavor or spice whatsover it was disgusting and would barley be passable as a can of spaghetti o’s at the grocery store. That is what it tasted like, in fact spaghetti o’s probably taste better. I am actually very suprised and thankful that I did not get food poisioning. Im willing to bet if a food inspector were to visit that place it would be shut down immediately. DO NOT visit this establishment. There are plenty of other indian establishments around the area that are quite good. Thankfully this wasnt my first experience otherwise I know I would never want to eat indian food again.

I had a very bad experiance at this place. I arrived to this please near closing time , which i didnt know it was 2:30 after noon. Manager i beleive told us we ara closing, so we didnt say any thing just walked toward exit door. while waiting between doors searching our data phone for another place, Manager called us, we are four people including me, saying you can come in if you want to eat from buffet but the cheif is leaving we cant make an order. We looked at th buffet we thought is fine we dont need any order from inside. the minute we sat eating they brought me the bill stating they are closing the register and we have to pay, so I payed. then tow min later they came to us saying that they need to leave and close the place, I was stunned for a minute, thinking they are joking. but they were not, they gave us boxes asking us to leave the place , they starting turining lights off. it was so bad experiance for me and my friends at this place, i was thinking we didnt enjoy our food at all, i also thought this is not kind or nice of them since they are the ones who decide to let us in.....i will not go this place anymore, and will not recomeneded for anyone. I should of not left the place or call the police , they took my money for a very bad treatment i ever experiance in my life.

Ashoka, to everyones eyes is a super popular Indian restaurant, specially if you see the number of white folks who flock to Ashoka on weekends. Little do they know what the place serve them in reality! To cut the long story short, I am an Indian and I went to Ashoka with my aged parents. The food they served, made them ill. They asked for a common Indian dish called "Biriyani" (rice & chicken cooked together). It was very hot as if they were trying to mask the flavor of rice which was going bad. When they fell sick, I called them and they apologized and send me a gift certificate to offset the money I paid. I went again, this time taking a friend of mine. The food was equally bad. As an example, they charge $16.50 for "Reshmi kabab" (a type of chicken kabab) which was a scandal. I have never tasted a microwaved reshmi-kabab like that before. Then there was "Dal makhani" (a type of creamed lentil curry) which was days old but thickened up with sour cream to hide the aging taste. The other dishes were equally bad. I would never go to this place even if they feed me for free. White folks, read this review before you waste your money on Ashoka. Its unhealthy and its a shame what they sell in the name of Indian food!

I have mixed feelings about Ashoka. I have gone there many times and the food overall, is very good. I havent had Indian food previously, so I wouldnt be able to tell you how it compares to dishes Ive had in the past. The setting is very quiet (for lunch hours at least) and has a nice ambiance. The service? To be honest, its almost non-existent. My standards for customer service arent that unreasonable. I just wanted to be greeted, have my water refilled once (if needed), my check brought to me within a reasonable amount of time and given a farewell after I pay the bill. More times than not, they fail on all counts. I always make first contact and Say one for the buffet please. They take me to my table in silence and then ask me if I would like some undecipherable chicken?. They dont provide a brief description of the dish...or even let you know its complimentary. The servers usually text in the corner while you eat, seldomly checking in. Ill usually get my check 15-20 minutes after completing my meal and thank my server for the meal...which is usually returned with silence...They may as well just have a self-serve water fountain and I can put my own dishes away...

OMG!!!! This is one of the worst restaurents that I have ever come across over my 4 decades of living here in the states and 2 decades in metro detroit. Its always the management and customer service that suffers the most. Food is OK, very cramped tables, dishes are not clean and the glass is smelly. To add to the chaos and downside the earlier management was hopeless and rude and the new one is not less either. The staff is very rude and especially the bloody squint eyed manager is number one rascal and rude. The staff is the same they dont care for thier customers at all. Have u seen any manager and his wife who is at the restaurent at times staring at u while u eat. OMG such a disgrace to the wonderful Indian community here. Just one trip is enough to seal the fate for this place in my books of visit. Awful place its high time this places is closed and or some amiable friendly management takes over. This management especially the maneger his wife and the staff need to take customer service lessons from Royal Indian Cuisine right across the street. Iam not able to gather myself and even give a single star rating for this dreadful eatery!!!!

Dont go for dinner at all. Waste of money. Bad food, bad service, bad attitude of manager and waiters. I think owner/manager doesnt care of food taste at all. Because of location they got so much office crowd for lunch that they take everyone for granted now and serve bad food. Got Malai Kofta and Panner, they put so much turmeric (haldi) in that that it was not eatable. This is second time this happened to me. First time I complained so waiter took back the dish and bring me back another one in fifteen mins but it tasted same as previous one. I think he just took the dish inside and brought same after fifteen min. I will recommend you to go other indian restaurant in area. At least they get less crowd so they care about the ones coming in. I dont care about service, attitude of people but at least food should taste good. But Ashoka is really really really bad for dinner. I am not going there for dinner and I will recommend to my friends also not to go there for dinner at all.
