I normally dont hop on the bandwagon of drama with restaurants but... I went to the forest Mexican restaurant with my husband and 1yr old daughter. Now I read up on reviews and such and everything was pretty awesome and the price seemed fair. Boy.... was I wrong We got there at 6:30pm ish and was seated in roughly 5 minutes being the only ones waiting to be seated. Got our drinks and our server said hed be right back..... 20 minutes later still no server. So we asked another server if they would take our order. So we order nothing complicated that should have taken no more than 15-20 minutes to make. 45 minutes to make a steak, an enchilada, a quesadilla for our daughter and a set of flaudas. There was nearly no sign of the second waiter until I had just asked for a manager when he comes around the corner with our food. Ok fine no manager for now. Still havent seen our original waiter and we have been there about an hour and 15 minutes and just finally got our food. The steak over done, my dinner wrong, and no mention of veggies in the mini quesadilla for my daughter which ended up having jalapenos in it. Definately not returning, though I swear I was a part of an episode of kitchen nightmares and chef Ramsey was going to come out at any minute.... ugh

I went here because we had a Groupon, this is the second time in the last month we went because of Groupons I purchased before we ever tried the place. I ordered the Forest nachos and the food literally looked like it was sitting under a hot plate all day long. The beef was dry and the chicken on it was rock hard and dry as a leather shoe. There was barely any cheese on it. I didnt eat one bite. My daughter said her chicken was hard as well, and said canned chicken tastes better. My other daughter got shrimp fajitas and the shrimp on hers was hard and dry too. I seriously couldnt believe it. I was scared to get food poisoning because it looked so old. I feel bad leaving such a bad review but the place needs to either close or get Gordon Ramsay in there for a kitchen nightmares makeover!

This is a great place. Lunch is served quickly and service is excellent. The menu is extensive and prices very reasonable. I knock off one star because while this is an authentic place, the lunch options are pretty Americanized, your meat options are typical chicken or beef. (However, If you ask al pastor tacos "Mexican style" with only cilantro and onions they will do it for you!) I found the entrées to be more authentic, so while I recommend this place for lunch or dinner, try it for dinner too. Overall excellent I just wish the lunch options had more meat options than the usual chicken or beef. I still highly recommend!

I am looking at the reviews and wondering if I went to the same place. The minute I opened the menu I should have left. The 1st page had food pressed between the pages so I turned the page and almost lost it! Triple the amount of food between those pages! When he came to take my order I asked if I could have a clean menu. The second menu........food between these pages also! These are plastic coated menus........very easy to wipe off. Got my cheese dip after I got my food so I took it to go. Everything was a little to spicy for me but I can live with that. Until they clean it up, I wont go back.

Best Mexican food in Lake Orion, hands down. Ive eaten here a few times but waited to review until Id gotten in to Sagebrush for a fair comparison. Ive lived all across the Southwest and Mexican is my favorite so I consider myself a good judge in terms of this type of food. The wait here is never bad even when the wait at Sagebrush is over an hour. I think the other place gets hype due to its large alcohol selection, but Forest still has a decent selection and the food is better. So if you want great food and to eat at a reasonable time eat here. You wont regret it. PS- The queso is awesome!

Really wanted to like this place due to authentic menu and quick service but tonight, my second visit, there was only one other table being served and there was a huge pile of dirty dishes on an empty table near the entrance and a mess of selsa on the carpet which was still there when we left. Knowing what this restaurant looks like in the main dining room where I can see whats going on I can only imagine the condition of the kitchen.

I hate to talk too much about the food at Forest Cantina: Im afraid once word gets out I wont be able to get in! Been there four times and food is excellent each time. Agree with Gregs review that the pineapple fajita is better than any Ive had in Texas or Arizona. Better food than anyplace in Mexican Town (Detroit - even Las Brisas!) or Pontiac (Trini & Carmens). Sagebrush doesnt compare. And the wait staff all speak Spanish natively!

The food is great and the servers are friendly. Our favorites are the "forest special #3" and the two chimichanga plate. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is that they are really slow for take out. They will give you an estimate of how long it will take, and when you show up at that time youll wait another 15 minutes. Just not good at estimating how long it should actually take

I have eaten there once and got carry out another time. Both times the food was excellent. Some of the most authentic Mexican food I have had in Michigan. The service can be a little slow, so I wouldnt recommend it if you are in a hurry, but it is worth the wait if you have time. The guacamole is the best around and the prices are very reasonable.

The service was good and the food came out super fast. But the ground beef in the burrito was flavorless and was ground very, very fine. It was mushy consistency. My husband said his meal was also flavorless. The best thing on the table was the salsa. There are too many good Mexican restaurants around to be spending your money and time here .

The fool was blah and the service was awful. We Ordered 2 shots of Cuervo, and they brought us well Tequila, when we called them on it, they took them into the backroom....waited about 10 minutes, and brought the same two shots back to the table. Bad days happen...but dont be schiesty! Nobody likes a cheat. Ill never return.

I now see why Sagebrush is always so packed and this restaurant is always so empty. The service was the absolute worst, the food was okay, but when you cant even effectively communicate to your server and they only come to your table a total of twice, it is a dealbreaker.

The food was Okay, the service provided was GREAT!!! My husband and I ordered a couple of their dinner combinations and we were not blown away by their food. Id expect better for a dine-in experience, but Id honestly get better tacos off the local taco truck!

I frequent this restaurant for lunch with a couple of my colleagues. The service is usually punctual with occasional delays. The food is consistently quite good. Its a standard menu consisting of burritos, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas etc...
