It would have been easy for a restaurant to stumble out of the gate during their grand opening weekend. In fact, that is often the case - with an extra amount of grace given by the eager patrons ready to try something new. That was not the case with Hop Cats grand opening! Huge crowds were managed well, staff were all friendly, engaging and patient - even at the end of the day on Sunday they all seemed happy to be there. The environment is beautifully designed with ample space and seating options. We dined at the bar to avoid the wait for a seat and patted ourselves on the back for our resourcefulness - but we barely got our waters when my phone buzzed with a text from the NoWait app that our table was ready. We let the hostess know that we were all set and stayed at the bar. Great place to observe the action. The menu took a bit to navigate - but only because there were so many great choices. The food arrived in a very reasonable time and was delicious. On our way out we took a peek at the out door area - wow! Again, great design and the nuances in the details were fun to discover. Wishing we had more summer left to enjoy this new hang out. Welcome to Kalamazoo HopCat - were glad youre here. Definitely another delicious downtown option.

I have to give the service 5 stars. All of the help was friendly, helpful, courteous and provided excellent service. There is a large beer selection but overpriced. $1-$2 higher than anywhere, anywhere in Kalamazoo, not to mention Bells across the street and Old Dog next door. The food was average and overpriced. There are many many better places to eat for lower cost. Even though they prepare the food there themselves they use packaged food from places like Gordons Food, and it tasted like it. Too many places nearby using local produce and local meats with excellent food at cheaper prices. We wanted to watch a football game on the tv directly in front of us but the manager said that some people behind us had requested the baseball game. Not a single person of the 20 or so at the tables behind us was watching anything. They was another tv to their side and one next to the one we wanted to watch, but he wouldnt change it for us. The music was loud enough that you had to shout at the person next to you, so everyone was shouting. The whole place was loud. We live here in Kalamazoo and we believe in supporting local businesses. I doubt well go back to this chain bar/restaurant. If the food were better and the prices were reasonable, we would.

I was the designated driver for a friends birthday on March 17th, St. Patricks Day. His ID expires that day after midnight and the manager came over the check. He looked directly at me and said I was too drunk because of the way I was talking to him. I never said a word and felt I was called out for no reason! I am the GM for a local business and would never treat a customer that way! Horrible service and I would not go there if thats the way they treat their customers. That is outrageous! If it makes any difference, I was wearing Michigan State shirt for the green. I felt that i was being discriminated. What rude service!

The food and beer selection at this restaurant is amazing. The wait staff are just truly outstanding. Weve been several times and loved everything about each experience. Today was especially great. After hearing that we had a negative experience elsewhere, Derek our server, went above and beyond to make sure the rest of our day was great. The restaurant was packed but we received each round of drinks in less than 10 minutes. Our apps and lunches were just as speedy. Everything we ordered had a special twist making it delicious and unique. A great stop in Kalamazoo.

Hopcats are great places to go for a good beer pretty good food and an interesting atmosphere. This Hopcat is cleverly laid out, with a fun atmosphere and good vibe. The service is good and the food is solid. Especially the crack fries. Hopcat excels at presenting great beers, including siders as well as very good full-service bar. This place is right in the heart of Kalamazoo and the train comes right by it which makes for an interesting part is every now and then. The beer garden is very cool with I rehabbed airstream trailer as a bar. Its worth a visit.

I had the turkey burger and it was one of the best turkey burgers that Ive ever had. The patty had a deep and flavorful herbed crust . The original tomatoes and fetta cheese toppings really set the burgers flavor appart from any Ive ever had. The Crack fries were to die for. The cheese dipping sauce was addictively delicious. The beer selection was vast and the weight staff knowlegeable about all the different beers on tap. The location was perfect in the center of the downtown district making it walking distance to anything downtown.

The renovations to the train depot are really cool and the place looks really good on the inside. We went there at 3pm on a Wednesday and the music was so loud you couldnt have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you, which probably played a factor in our waitress messing up both of our orders (she had to ask us to repeat ourselves 3 times because she couldnt hear us). The food/drink was priced the same as Bells (which is right across the street) but not nearly as good.

Hit or miss when it comes to the food. The bread was soggy on a Reuben we ordered and the BLT is some-what dry, however, I did get the grilled cheese recently which was AMAZING and id like to go back merely for that. It can be hard to get a drink from the bar when its crowded but you make do until you can get seated. Always friendly waiters and waitresses who are quite knowledgeable on their menu and drink selections. Great location but I do wish there were more parking spots.

Maybe it was the how long we waited to get greeted or possibly I was just unhappy with how nothing interested me on the menu. But my first impression was bad. I didnt like the waitress, they dont have anything taller then a pint, and nothing really stood out on the menu. I ended up with a Reuben and a Beer Meow, both were pretty good, the fries were great, but it definitely felt more like going to an Applebees rather then an exciting new destination.

Neat atmosphere and quick service! I personally wasnt blown away by the food, it was good, not great. Came with a large group (6) and it was difficult to get a table where we could all fit and still interact well. Our table must have been under a speaker because we all had to raise our voices to hear each other speak. The same was true for our waitress, who stood at one end of the table and we again had to raise our voices for her to hear us.

Great great great place, all ages can go here your parents, highschool kids and college student like myself as well. Probably not a plave to go and get drunk but definantly enough drinks to feel good. Very diverse customers, the people who go there and who work there welcome all people of different nationalities and backgrounds with open arms like your their family, lol love it, recommend it to any body and everybody.
