If you love Jamaican food, dont bother going anywhere else but here. Sure, there are several other sufficient authentic Jamaican restaurants in the area, but after eating here the first time I wanted to call someone on the phone to tell them how delicious the food was. Ive traveled to Jamaica many times, and let me tell you, the food here is totally on point when you have a familiarity with and an appreciation for the real thing. Rose is the proprieter, and I met her the first time I visited. She knows how to make diners feel good in more ways than one with her warm spirit, big smile and obvious gift in the kitchen. Come here for jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, barbecue chicken, curry and much more. She also offers a nice selection of drinks, including the wonderful sorrel. Plan to spend at least $10 a dinner, but you get vegetables such as cabbage and carrots and rice and peas with each entrée. Its primarily a carry out place, but I feel just as comfortable sitting at one of the small tables inside. The Jamaican Pot also is a good place to learn whats happening in the West Indian community such as upcoming concerts and events with all the flyers in the windows inside. Yes, Mon, this place makes you feel irie, for real. Yummy for the tummy.

Beef patties are good everything else I have tried has been horrible. I tried the vegetable dish, vegetables tasted old with no flavor. The following week I ordered ox-tail. I took two bites and the meat was completely spoiled. I went back to the restaurant to return the dish and get my money back. The chef was so rude and refused to refund my money I was shocked!!!! I wound up forming a scandal in the restaurant to get my money back because out of principal I refuse to pay for rotten food. In the end they wound up refunding my money but overall the food and my customer service experience forces me to give this restaurant 1 star. Having grown up in Crown Heights Brooklyn which has one of the largest caribbean populations outside of the Caribbean and being that I am currently engaged to a Jamaican man I know what REAL Jamaican food tastes like and this is not it!!! Once again the beef patties are ok but try everything else at your own risk!!!!

The food here is pretty good. I recommend calling ahead so your food can be ready when you get there, give them at least ten minutes. I generally order food from here about once a week. Sometimes, the food can be a bit salty. Sometimes even though I ask for mild food I get spicy. Sometimes I feel like they skimp on the oxtails a little bit by giving you all small bones. The plantains are nice, I always order an extra side of plantains. When paying with a credit card, they ask for id, even though it is a chip card with a valid signature on the back. The website has some outdated information, including incorrect prices on the catering menu and incorrect hours (they are not open on Mondays.) If you want to order catering make sure to get the correct price when you place the order. There are two small tables in the restaurant, so not really a place you can sit down and eat. I would say this place is really carryout only.

This is my first time at The Jamaican Pot. The girls working there were polite and friendly, the place was clean, and Jigsy King was playing. I left good going in. The jerk chicken was very mild and did not taste authentic. But you would probably have to have had jerk chicken from a vendor in the streets of Jamaica to realize this or spend most of your life in Jamaica and had a uncle that loved to cook. Ahhhhh, the good ol days! The curry chicken was mediocre, not authentic either. Very disappointed. I shoulda just went to Ronos Caribbean Family Dining. Now they know how to jerk some chicken. So I noticed after I posted this review, that the receipt said "mild". I didnt know I was getting mild, and wish they had mentioned that I had an option. Anyways, the jerk sauce DID NOT taste authentic even for mild.

Did a pick up order was on hold on the phone for a longtime, they need to update their menu online because they do not carry a lot of the items they say they have online. Got there to pick up after a 20 mins and no peach cobbler that my wife called in it was pear cobbler. The food is the same price as the Caribbean cafe on Wyoming and 7 mile but it is not that flavorful. upon reaching home I realized I was not given the drink I paid for and had to return again and after all the time wasted after telling the person there this was our first time trying them out she gave me a beef pie for the inconvenience. If the food was better I would return but after the headache and mediocre food Im good.

The food is over priced and mediocre. I visited two days in a row. The first day was great. I got there moments after it opened. The next they had been opened for at least 5 hours. My beef patty was perfect the first day. The second day mmmmm...it tasted like it had been sitting there for 5 hours. It was hard on the bottom and dry on the inside. This is not a sit down place. They will tell you most items on the menu are not available every day. So dont go with expectations. You may be disappointed. I spent $20 on a lunch combo plate and a beef patty. I had like 4 plantains, a spoonful of cabbage, four thinly sliced oxtails over rice and a spoonful of curry goat over rice.

Shame. I hate trying Jamaican food places in Detroit. I order oxtail with extra rice and peas. This women gave me some types of spicy barbeque chicken.!! Them and everybody who gave this place a good review for having authentic Jamaican food should be ashamed of themselves. Typical Jamaicans always trying to get over. I order oxtail and pay 16$ to get chicken. Smfh. Dont for a second think because I dont have an accent that Im American and you can put anything on my plate and lead me to believe its oxtail. Disgusted.

Im in love with this place. So happy that I went down 8mile and seen the spot walked in and placed my order and I got a peach cobbler and blueberry cobbler. The food was on point the jerk chicken that Rose gave me to sample was so good I mean the best ever. But those cobblers man oh man to die for I are the whole thing I couldnt stop eating it I was mad that I didnt have any more. I need the recipe for the peach cobbler. I live on Hall rd but I will make that trip to get more.

Wanted to try this place because of reviews and of course because I was looking for real Jamaican food. Took a chance even in the storm tonight to go here. It was totally worth it. The jerk chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned and the rice and cabbage just complemented the entire flavor. Also tried the peach cobbler, it was soooo delicious. I mean this was cobbler your mom would make. Great food worth the travel.... and I never give reviews. Good job Jamaican Pot!!!

Amazing food! The atmosphere was perfect. The staff was pleasant. And the music was bumpin!. Whoever is disappointed with this restaurant has serious issues... The Jamaican pot is the best tasting Caribbean restarunt in all of Detroit!! I myself have been to all of the Caribbean restaurants in Detroit. And the Jamaican pot beats all of them in my opinion. I absolutely love this restaurant 110%. Keep up the good work Jamaican pot!!!
