3 stars for the breakfast , 1 star for the wait staff. nothing over the top about the breakfast it was good but not to the extent of some reviews and my wife and I have been frequent visitors here for yrs. As for the wait staff - if you are looking to EARN a decent tip ( 25-30% which is our usual for a breakfast due to the lower cost of the meal & weve both been there/done that waiting tables on THIS island while in college in the 80s), then you need to put forth the effort to achieve it. When the table lacks set ups when the customer is being seated, you bring them to the table - without being asked twice. When the meal is served, no need for the dump and run to scoop up the bill & tip at another table - never to return to see if: 1. the customer is satisfied, 2. if the customer requires oh say...refill. When the bill is paid, and there is a very little tip, thats a hint that the service was less than deserved and that a tip = gratuity - a reward for service provided and not a requirement for your attendence. And dont complain about it - learn from it.

Downyflake donuts is one of my favorite memories from my childhood. My parents used to take my brother and I to Nantucket almost every year and from the time I was about seven my dad and I would get up before my mom and my brother and ride our bikes to Downyflake... best donuts EVER. My mouth water just thinking about them. I havent been to Nantucket in years but my dad and I still talk about those donuts a lot. If youre in Nantucket DONT MISS these donuts. Definitely worth breaking your diet for. :) Cant say I remember the service, but I think the staff could have thrown the donuts at us and Id still be raving about them.

Yes. Just yes. 10 star Downyflake if possible. The donuts are always hot and fresh. If you are going to sit for breakfast, come early or be prepared to wait. The line can get long and you might wait 30 minutes, but the food is worth it. The Surfside Scramble is my wifes favorite, kids always get the blueberry pancakes, and I will get the sausage, biscuits, and gravy or one of the various specials they have.

They may not have all the varieties of the big chains, but the doughnuts Downyflake makes still cant be beat. Their breakfasts are great, too. If you are looking for a low-key, affordable breakfast on the island, the Downyflake is your place.

Doughnuts are unbelievable! Reminded me of when I was a kid getting them from the local mom and pop coffee shop. Nothing like the chains. Breakfast sandwiches always ready at the register. Great friendly service. Now my morning stop every day.
