We had dinner here a few nights ago, Friday October 1st. This was one of the WORST dining experiences we have ever had in Boston. We met friends (local foodies who have no kids and know EVERY restaurant in Boston) and they tried to wave us off ("there are so many better spots in the South End," etc.) but we had our 10 year old daughter with us and this was easy to walk to from our apartment. We recall it when it was Biba and Excelsior. Anyhow, long story short, the Cod I ordered was SMALL and marginal. Chick peas as garnish were overally marinated in vinegar. My appetizer of fried artichokes was OK. I also ordered as sides the polenta, potatoes au gratin and a salad. The wine we first ordered (which was over $100) was FIZZY and we ordered a different one. Waiter kept kicking our chairs as he served other tables (this BEFORE we sent the wine back so whether or not he was just pissy to begin with is suspect..). My husbands cherry dessert was a lumpy, sodden mess. To top it off, within 2 hours of going home I awoke in a cold sweat, sick as a dog. Thankfully my daughter did not get sick (I shared most of my dinner with her except the Cod and polenta). So it was either one of those that was bad. Overall, a let down, to put it mildly. A disappointing night with a huge bill. Next time we WILL stick with a better South End place that doesnt try for haute cuisine and fail so miserably.

Had my graduation brunch here a few years ago - there were 18 of us and we paid a flat fee per person for the meal. The meal was 3 courses and food was good, though oddly tiny portions (Im all for eating healthy sized portions, but the food felt more like a sampler/taste than an actual meal. Each course was about 1 bite each and I dont think anyone left feeling full). We were also offered champagne or mimosas, already poured and waiting on a tray in our waiters arms, at the moment of arrival. We received one round with the flat fee we paid (about $120/person). After that, we were offered refills though never offered a wine/champagne list, just offered it directly from a freshly opened bottle. We later found out that the champagne we drank after the first round was $100/bottle. Would have been really nice to have been told this before hand as we never would have chosen such expensive champagne/would have opted to stop after the first round. The service was good otherwise - the wait staff was very friendly - and the brunch was great, but Ill chock that way more up to the people I spent it with than to this restaurant.

Dined at the restaurant on 2/13/2010 for a birthday celebration. The table setting was great for 6 in front of the windows overlooking Arlington Street and the public garden. The food was excellent! parmesan and black olive shortbreads were a great accompaniment to a glass of white wine or martini, fried artichokes were delicious, the marianted bay scallops w/tomato & caper marmalade were so good - we ordered a second go around for the table. The stuffed calamari was delicious and tender, prawns provencale were excellent but served warm and not hot. Classic boullabaisse was excellent, but could use a tad less salt. My persnicky guests said the filet of beef was excellent as well as the venison. They provide reading glasses which is a huge plus. My only reservation about the restaurant is the noise level and the management should probably address this issue. Two tables behind us practically had a fist fight - because one table asked the other to tone it down. Not good! I would go back, that food was that good. Buon Appetito!

If there’s a member of your party who balks at the idea of rabbit with pistachio or venison tenderloin, they make a very satisfying cheeseburger and fries. The charcuterie selection is also good, meaty food a simple eater will enjoy – no scary, jelly-like aspics at all. Like cold cuts, it goes great with beer. It also goes well with any wine that’s simple and rustic; ask your sommelier. The music of Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier seems a bit too obvious here, but this may appeal to its very touristy crowd. In my experience this place has very attentive service, appealing presentation, and good food.

I had an okay time at dinner last night. Food was good but the service lacked attention to detail. It was also my birthday and our server was MIA in the latter part of the evening. So we had some other person take our dessert order and another server gave my souffle which had "Happy Birthday" written on the plate to my husband. He signaled that the souffle was suppose to be mine. This was a total disapointment to a restaurant that deserve more stars. I ate here before and the service was better. I must say that if you are going to dine out on special occasions, service is just as important as the food.

All around... the ONLY positives were the view and the service, which was outstanding. All the food- marginal at best, small portions, bad food combining and had to be hands down the LOUDEST eatery in Boston. Will not return and suggest other than drinks- DO NOT GO. My out of town guest and I were strongly disappointed and felt ill after the meal into the next day. The only conclusion that the chef has never step foot in AIX Provence which makes awareness of the cuisine of today or yesterday for that mater a mute point....

A favorite restaurant in Boston. Wonderful seafood, amazing wine selection, and great cocktails. Nice outdoor seating on Boylston if the weathers right. Our most recent visit brought this from a 5 star to a 4 star due to service not food. The oysters, smoked asparagus soup, foie gras and fluke were amazing as expected. Our server, however, disappeared, but given the open patio we could actually see that he went on a smoking break. I hope theyre not losing attention to the details.

On a weekend trip to Boston and wanted a special dinner to celebrate our nations 239th birthday. This restaurant hit the mark. Service, food and wine were outstanding. Our waiter Carlos took wonderful care that we understood everything the menu had to offer a diner. The chefs preparation of dishes was unique. Found out during the meal it is a sister restaurant to Avoce in NYC which is one our our favorites. Would go back next time in Boston.

Four of us went to Bistro du Midi last night. The moment we ordered cocktails my wife and I ordered the chicken ( 45 minutes according to the menu) chrispy. I would guess that the chicken came out about an hour later anything but chrisby. Someone recalled how we ordered it and 10-15 minutes later it came out. It obviouisly been microwaved and put under flames. It was tough, tasteless and in my opinion terrible. They takle take it off our bill.

My husband & I flew in from Texas for a conference & made reservations at Bistro du Midi b/c the Internet showed they had foie gras. Not only did we get the best foie gras that we have ever had but we also had our palates experience tastes we didnt know existed. We enjoyed it so much that we came back 2 nights later. Both waiters (Robert, 1st night & Ray, 2nd night) were very knowledgable and timed each course perfectly. We will be back!
