I keep saying Im not a fan of French food, but occasionally, there are exceptions. Troquet is one of them. The Lady of the Table and I dropped by this fancy schmancy restaurant on a Wednesday night. The lower level was empty, but the second floor was about three quarters of capacity. The decor is simple and nothing gratuitous stood out. We ended up going for the 8 (?) course tasting menu, which included a cheese plate and two desserts at the end. I dont want to spoil the surprises by telling you all the phenomenal dishes we had, but our dinner at Troquet was not without flaws. The food started out great, with beef and lamb so tender that even I, a not-so-big fan of red meat, ate them and wanted more. However, as the evening went on, the quality of the food kind of took a roller coaster ride. At times it was good, while other times it was curious as to what the kitchen was thinking. Service was kind of good, and kind of weird. Our experiences with the waiter was awkward, to say the least. He didnt seem to know the menu very well either, which could had been fine had he also not been touching our cheese with his hands (yes, I know that may come off a bit snobby - but thats not my intention). Similar to the quality of the food, our service was another amusement ride. Sometimes the dishes would be cleared and the next round would be brought out immediately. However, as the night progressed, the wait became longer and longer. Since we closed them out though, it didnt take long for the check to come so everyone could go home to a good nights rest.

Came in here with a group of 5 and sat at one of the most outstanding tables with a view in Boston. In is on the 2nd floor of the restaurant and overlooks Boston Common. Troquet has been a Boston fine dining staple for a long time and for some reason I feel it is often overlooked. This is an amazing French style restaurant with impeccable and professional service. The kind where it seems like there are 4 servers waiting on you. You know the service is good when your water is always more than half full and the bread keeps coming. Short Rib Polenta - Some of the most tender short rib Ive ever had. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. The polenta, which I am usually indifferent about was also great. Black truffle ricotta cavatelli - If you like fresh pasta and truffle mushrooms then this is a dish that must be tried. Roast Chicken - Perfectly cooked chicken with skin on and a medley of very tasted veggies. Sometimes simple is perfect Suckling Pig - Everyone raves about this dish, maybe I am not just a huge pork fanatic or maybe it was meat overload. Either way I enjoyed it but I would get something different on my next visit. Overall an outstanding dining experience!

Snarky, Rude & Pretentious: Never Again We entered the restaurant at 6:45PM on a Friday night and requested seating. The hostess looked us up and down (we were dressed nicely for a night out) and asked if we had tickets to a show. We replied yes, but that we were not in a hurry. She informed us that she had no seating for us...even though all of the tables on the main level were EMPTY and the bar seating was only 1/2 full. I quizzed her and said but your restaurant is empty...why wont you seat us as we will be gone before 8PM? She replied snarkily, "next time make a reservation". We left confused and as soon as the door shut behind us my husband said "There will never BE a next time as far as Im concerned...what a nasty woman and terrible attitude. How can the restaurant stay in business when they treat Boston suburbanites like this...or tourists for that matter...or anyone?" Poscript: After the show we walked by Torquet on our way to our car and saw only 2 tables occupied. Nuff said. Visited September 2015

Just an overall wonderful experience. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and sat at the little bar to wait. The bartender was skilled and attentive in just the right way. We were seated in a timely manner. The table for two is small but well appointed and didnt feel cramped. The food is just incredible. Even the bread and butter were delicious. We had the chicken and the duo of beef and both were cooked perfectly and were incredibly flavorful. We also had one of the appetizers from the special menu, a lamb-stuffed raviolo with broccoli rabe which was equally delicious. The desserts were beautiful and decadent, and I would highly recommend both the chocolate souffle and the meyer lemon tart. The wine list is extensive and the waitress was very knowledgeable and able to provide several lovely suggestions. The staff is polite and attentive without being overbearing. This is the best restaurant we have been to in Boston and we will definitely be back!

Delightful waiter was fun and respectful and helpful with the menu. All of our meals were deliciously prepared. From our second floor table near the window, we were able to watch all of the activity on the Boston Common, as evening turned into night, including kickball leagues and the renowned Boston Ghost Tours in the graveyard. We skipped desert because we had an appetizer, and the meal was filling, and we did not want to get over-stuffed. But the coffee was excellent as an after dinner alternative. There was absolutely no pressure to free up the table, we lingered and were welcome to do so.

My family of 8 had reservations for a Tuesday night. The food was excellent but the waiters were atrocious. Besides their bad service, they were most unpleasant. So bad, that nobody in our family wants to return. I was going to contact the manager, but their web page had no contact information other than a facebook link. So I posted more-or-less this review on their facebook, expecting them to contact me. But no. They just deleted my post without inquiring about what was wrong. I guess the manager likes to hire waiters of his own kind.

The food was excellent. The appetizers were very good and the entrees were exceptional. The sole was amazing and the sirloin was flawless. The sirloin was richly flavorful, as good as it gets. The ambiance was fine with a view of the park. The wine pairings were decent but didnt impress us but didnt disappoint either. The chocolate souffle was very good. Overall a great dinner and it definitely goes on the list to return to some time but wont doesnt quite elevate to the level of a new favorite.

Few restaurants in the US correctly pair food and wine like Troquet. Over 40 wines are offered in 2 and 4 oz. pours, along with wine pairings for each dish on the menu. Oysters for starters, a nice combo of locals and West Coast, and a bottle of crisp Meursault. The soft shell crab, paired with a peekytoe crab salad was in season so that was a must, as was the very fresh Dover sole (thanks, British Airways). Go for the ginger souffle for dessert

Ive visited Troquet literally hundreds of times. Its my favorite Boston restaurant. I consider owners Chris & Scott friends. Everyone knows the wine list is incredible. But the food is underrated. We refer to the Duck Confit Salad as The Best Salad in the World. The Roasted Giannone Chicken might be the sleeper dish of the whole menu. Roasted Suckling Pig: If theres a signature entree at Troquet, this is it. Its the fanciest picnic ever!
