We came for bunch and were told we had 30 minutes to order. Seems fine, right? Kinda. I was stressing after 2:50 because our server came by, took drink orders at 2:35 and was not seen again. More than half empty tables, she knows we want to order brunch, and I dont want to rush the kitchen...anyway, she came back right when I started to stress and we got our order in. She seemed to think that our table of 3 wanted 2 baskets of pastries, each with 4 pastries, so Im glad we got that sorted and got a great blueberry muffin and slightly overcooked to my liking pan au chocolate. Perfect size for a starter. I had the fall sangria which was fantastic. Very warming in the way that fall flavors are (even though it was a cold drink). I had the mussels and fries which were both great. Not sure about the complement to one another, but the sauce on the mussels was great, probably because it was mostly butter. I feel like I always get a bit of sand in whatever shellfish I eat, and it only happened once here, which is a a great surprise. The fries were perfect. Service was slow and could have gotten another drink out of me, but she never asked. The other two ordered another, mine was mostly gone and she didnt ask if I wanted another. When she brought them mine was empty, but she didnt ask if I wanted another.

My boyfriend and I were really excited about trying this place out for Sunday-morning breakfast so we made a reservation on OpenTable. When we walked in and there was barely anyone there, we thought we would at least get a pretty good table, but five minutes into our meal a party of twenty (who obviously had a reservation, so the hostess knew where she was seating us) rolled in and proceeded to stand up with their bums in our faces, talking (yelling) to one another. We couldnt even hear ourselves talk. Fortunately, they were happy to re-seat us. If the food had been good, this place might have left an ok taste in my mouth, but it was just mediocre. I had the herb omelet and pomme frites. I much would have preferred hash browns or a different potato product, because if you ask me, no matter what you call them, fries dont belong with an omelet. But whatever. We probably wont be heading back here ever again. Its not with the commute. And on top of this, we got an email from OpenTable a week later asking us to confirm that we "did not" show up for our reservation at Gaslight. So if you go here, make sure and check your points, because they obviously dont care enough to note that you show up.

Recently made my second visit here after having a decent, albeit crowded, experience during restaurant week. Was expecting the same quality of food only to be disappointed. My first tipoff should have been that it was a major holiday weekend and no one was in the restaurant, not even wait staff. Apparently this also applied to the kitchen staff who could only serve one decent dish. French onion soup was candy sweet, completely disgusting. My steak tartare was mostly a giant brown old lump, thankful that I didnt get food poisoning. The bone marrow was barely present, basically yielding a single bite. The steak frites had soggy fries and a steak that was almost uncuttable. The chicken dish was so overwhelmingly dry that it had to be sent back. And finally, the one success of the night was the duck breast which was good. Service was fine, but the chef was either asleep or out of town. For the money its not even close to being worth the risk. One bad experience is all I need to never return. If you cant serve quality food every night then close your doors on the off nights.

I had high expectations and honestly Im not hard to please but this was not a great experience. There were 7 of us, traveling from different areas to meet for dinner. Three of us ordered an appetizer. My French Onion Soup never arrived, although the other two appetizers did arrive (salad and escargot). Our waitress apologized once we asked where the soup was and offered to put the order in (she told me she forgot) but by that time my dinner companions had completed their apps so I declined. Then our entrees were delivered....except mine. Once again our waitress apologized and placed my order which came out when most of my companions were completing their dinners. Truth be told at that point I didnt want to eat. In fairness, the general manager apologized, compd my meal, gave me a gift certificate for future use and brought us each a glass of champagne. He tried to make up for it. I had heard great things about Gaslight. I live on the North Shore and have been anticipating a second Gaslight opening in Lynnfield. I will not return.

This place is rapidly becoming one of my new all-time favorites, especially for Sunday brunch. The food is incredibly tasty and very well-prepared, I particularly like the pork hash and the way they cook their eggs perfectly. Another big selling point is the impressive selection of creative and delicious breakfast cocktails, if youre like me and you tend to like fruits and herbal flavors they are certainly worth checking out. I love the decor, particularly their hammer-worked aluminum bar top. It is a charming place to sit and eat, vaguely reminiscent of a French underground station, yet somehow elegant and refined, and you have to admire the fact that they went as far as to install actual gas lights all along the exterior! The value for the money isnt any worse than you would expect in a Boston restaurant of average quality, and its proximity to the Sowa district is another plus. For those who live outside the city and prefer to drive, it doesnt get any better than free on-site parking in the South End!

Being more of a frugal pub person, I dont think I ever would have come here if it was not for a generous post wedding gift certificate from a friend. We went early in the night and made a reservation which was not necessary at 5 PM, but by 7 PM when we left, it would have been a must since the place filled up! We had a lovely time... Very attentive wait staff and an elegant and private ambiance at the table. We started with mussels which are technically an entree, but they allowed us to order an appetizer portion. They were some of the best mussels I have ever had. The broth could have been a soup, it was so delicious. The main ingredient that stood out was fennel. The other highlight of the night was the delicious bread and butter! I could have eaten that butter with a spoon. Luckily they gave seconds. And thirds. Over all it was a charming experience with a special treat feel to the evening. This place is perfect for an intimate meal with friends or a rendezvous with a lover.

I trust eating here is fine, maybe even great, but grabbing a drink here is horrible. We walked in, my party of 6, at 11pm. A greasy, bruised up bar tender told us not to worry "bar closes at 1, kitchen closes at 12". Great! I ordered 2 cocktails for me and my girlfreind and some pomme frites hoping for the best. 45 min goes by and finally someone asks "where is our food?". The bartender looks back and says "well I didnt put in your food, and its too late now. Maybe i can get you bread". Yup. An hour till the kitchen closes when we order, but when it goes in its "too late". We get our drinks, finish them and wait. Wait for 15, 20 min for the bartender to come ask if we need another. But, Alex, maybe its a packed bar, maybe youre being unreasonable, you may say. Well, dear reader, I can confirm that indeed the bar was wholly empty! Now I know why. Gaslight might be the single worst bar in Boston.
