I have been eating at this café basically Monday through Friday since it opened last year. Ive eaten at a long list of office building cafes in my life and can honestly say this is by far the best. The old café, Café Gallery, was a bit dark and gloomy with the same fried food options on the hot bar every day. Sprout is bright and cheery and always very very clean. The staff and the owner are super friendly. The hot food options vary quite a bit throughout the week. For breakfast, there is always a variety of options including omelets and pancakes. For lunch, there is always fresh fish of some kind, chicken, beef, pork and a dozen other things like roasted vegetables, noodles, etc. The food consistently tastes fresh and I dont think Ive ever tried something I didnt end up liking. They also have a salad bar and a sushi bar with at least a dozen types of rolls that rival or surpass what is available in the area. All made fresh in house! There is a dedicated sandwich bar, too. I know that some people think that $7 for a sandwich or panini is too much but I dont think so when the sandwiches and paninis are made with Boars Head brand meats and cheeses and cooked perfectly. Finally, theres a coffee bar. While the coffee can get a bit cool in between refills of the larger dispensers, its generally fresh and tastes pretty good. It might seem odd for someone to write a review of a café in an office building, but Im sitting here eating a late lunch from Sprout right now and its delicious. So I figured I should share my thoughts about the place. In my opinion, it has a lot of charm, the staff are super friendly and food is quite good. I give it a 5 star rating compared to other such cafes.

This review is for their Bethesda location: Nice staff for the most part, but horrible supervisor/floor manager. I wouldve given negative stars, if possible. Their custom-made salads are ok, but today, the usual salad lady was unavailable and I was helped by a supervisor. It was an extremely frustrating experience. Her English was poor (which wasnt her fault). She was giving me a difficult time about my requested modifications for a Caesar salad. I had a very hard time understanding her, and this required another staff member (whose English was better) to do the translation. By the end of the translated conversation, which was longer than it shouldve been, it turned out that the supervisor said I need to pick a new salad because theyre unwilling to make modifications - "You cannot order the Caesar salad. Each salad comes with a fixed list of ingredients and you must stick with them." This place is nowhere near a gourmet/cuisine kind of place, and its ridiculous to disallow substitutions. Not sure why the *name* or *label* of the salad mattered so much to her. Overall, poor management, especially given most of their stuff is marked-up. A place that will just let a customer walk out, without any willingness to work things out with a customer, is bad business in my book.

This place is really the only option if attending a conference at this satellite NIH building. While there are other places around (within a 3 minute drive, 15 minute walk), I believe this somewhat-unknown restaurant is worth a visit. I enjoyed the buffet, which was overwhelmingly Asian cuisine today (Monday; not sure if every Monday). There was a good selection of vegetarian, seafood, and meat options along the hot food bar. There a also a reasonable selection of cold items (salad, cold noodle dishes...). In addition to the Asian cuisine, there were a few dishes such as BBQ chicken wings, Jamaican jerked chicken, orzo with chicken, and mixed grilled veggies. The cafe presents as a small, cozy place with a cutsie name. There are tables along the window and even a small courtyard outside (weather permitting). They serve coffee all day and have a great selection of bottled juices, teas, and energy drinks. Snacks are also available here, such as chips, cookies, energy and protein bars, etc. All in all, I believe the cafe is worth a visit IF youre there for a conference (or for some other reason in the building). Not sure Id try to find parking just for this restaurant, but thats me!

I would of rated it a 5 if it werent for their generally higher prices compared to what I am use to. A varied amount of food options from having breakfast sandwiches cooked on the grill to sushi and running the gamut on snack options and drinks. I believe management does a good job of keeping the place clean, stocked and efficiently providing good service.

I agree it is very bright and clean but today I ordered a chicken fingers and fries and the chicken was raw. When I took it back all they did was give me my money back. They didnt even try to redeem themselves. Just bad business.

The food is good but everything in there is gonna cost you. This place is not cheap. Maybe its all organic but I dont think so. The food and place is great though.
