Wordy/long review ahead.... When talking about BBQ, the definition of such changes by region. In MD, BBQ is "pit beef". Pretty much any state south of MD, BBQ is pulled pork. Of course, in anywhere but the south, BBQ is just something you do in your back yard (a "cook out"). Point is, after a year or more of looking around in Maryland, after trying various "recommended" restaurants and BBQ stands, I had all but given up on finding good pulled pork in the area. Its incredible, and I daresay disappointing what your favorite BBQ gets redefined at when youre not in its native area. Point is, one very hungry Saturday, my search for good (pulled pork) BBQ in the Baltimore area was pretty much over. I wanted to hold this review off until I had tried some of the other menu items, but I just couldnt. Mission BBQ has some of the best pulled pork Ive tried in the state. Im not sure it competes with the best Ive ever had, but that shouldnt stop you from going. Theyre friendly, theyve got a great selection of menu items, and food is served quickly. The portions arent huge but theyll definitely leave you satisfied. The sides are great and there are lots to choose from. Flavor nuts are in for a treat; each table has a six-pack of different sauces -- all of them delicious -- for saucing your BBQ, and they also have some classy glass bottle soda (including Cheerwine for the southerners) if you prefer sugar to HFCS. A note on decor; I dropped one point because I support our troops and servicepeople but the decor/theme was not really my thing (I would be curious to find out if it makes those individuals feel more or less at home, or about the same). Also, even though I dont really like it, its hard to find a "true" BBQ establishment that doesnt have country music blaring, and Mission BBQ delivers if youre into that. Having said all that, it all fits together ok and the environment is good. Two bites into my meal, and I already knew I would be back for more. Just go.

Its a shame how you can fall in love with a restaurant the first time you try it out and then come back and your visit is not at all the same (One Bad Apple). Dont get me wrong the food was great both times but the first time everyone was so warm and welcoming when i told them it was my first time there I even had a guy (I really wish I could remember his name because he was great) tell me that I would love my food and I would be back. So today I show up to pick up my order and my HOST: Sydney made me change my mind her attitude was horrible I had been waiting for her to finish up with the customer in front of me and when she did she completely looked right thru me and asked the lady behind me could she help her (believe me if u saw me u couldnt miss me lol) even the lady behind me looked at me like what was that about so when Sydney finally took my money for order she yelled to the back for my order as if it bothered her and then blew me off So I asked Sydney if I could have my 2 cups that I paid for with my order and she was very rude and disrespectful when she snatched my 2 cups from behind the register and slammed them on the counter smh I remained very calm thru it all and I even noticed that plenty of her coworkers noticed what was going on as well. Its just so crazy to me because Ive never met this girl a day in my life so Im really lost to the fact that she only had a problem with me but nobody else!!!!!! Also like I said in the beginning the food was GREAT both times and that one guy was the best both visits he is so welcoming and you can tell he loves what he does i wish i could remember his name so I could send him a shoutout.

I love BBQ. LOVE it. And I am picky when it comes to BBQ. So when I tell you I went there for dinner last night and went back today for lunch, you understand how INSANELY good this place is. Last night I got the 2 meat special with pulled pork and brisket and two sides- mac and cheese and green beans with bacon. I struggled to eat all of it, but it was so good I could not stop. The mac and cheese was creamy and perfectly cooked, the moist brisket was amazingly smoky and tender, and the pulled pork melted in your mouth. It was the best smoked brisket I ever had. I went back today and got just the brisket with mac and cheese and a sweet tea. I went with the lean brisket, which had such wonderful BBQ bark on it. I resorted to using my fingers to eat it because it fell apart when I tried to use a fork. The service is very good, everyone is amazingly friendly and genuinely kind. The place is decorated in a tasteful "all-American" military theme and there is plenty of outdoor seating as well. What more can you ask for?

In an area that is known for its crab and seafood, Mission BBQ has some good barbeque. I had the two meat sampler, the brisket and sausage. Meats were slightly cold, but I guess sitting underneath an air duct with the AC blowing translates to cold meats. The sauces were exceptional, my favorite was Baja bold. It was fiery and bold yet smooth. Darn, the Grannys Sweet potato mash was the BEST. Corn bread good but as cold as the meats. Decor, not what I expected but acceptable. Now, I expected a large house with huge dining area and the scent of burnt hickory wood flowing thru the house as a brief description. Its like a standard restaurant in a shopping plaza. I guess I should have known based on the reviews. Service was great... As you sit, they bring you samples of items you havent tried. Not bad, huh? Overall, Mission BBQ scratched my barbeque itch in a good way. Im going back soon. But there is place just north of Baltimore I gotta try before I settle.

Their original location and I think still the best. The meats are always well smoked and seasoned and moist. They have plenty of homemade sauce options, which are also excellent, but the meats are great on their own. I also cant speak highly enough of the sides, the fries are reminiscent of Thrashers in Ocean City, and with Old Bay and vinegar, even better. The mac and cheese is also much better than other restaurants. If you order a sandwich it comes on fresh bread, if you order just meat, it comes with cornbread. The hidden gem at Mission BBQ is the fresh squeezed lemonade. It is the best Ive ever had, there is no other drink option to consider. There service is always excellent, the staff will help you bring did to your table as needed and will come around to offer refills on your drinks. They also regularly come around with samples.

What can you say about something that everyone else has already heaped praise upon? Its awesome. You can stop this review now, cause you know all you need to know. But if you want to know more, we had the brisket and it was so tender and juicy, and each sauce we tried was true to its name, whether from KC, Texas, North Carolina, and others. My favorite was the KC and Memphis sauces, but the Tupelo Honey Heat was really interesting (and delicious!) The sides themselves were also great, just complimenting the wonderful brisket. I also like their mission of supporting police and soldiers, providing a way for the customers to help out with the special cup you can buy, and a portion given to wounded warriors. Staff was friendly, and prices reasonable. Make this a MUST TRY.
