Now I know why there were so many empty tables on the Friday evening before Christmas. My girlfriend and I ordered the grilled smoked salmon salad and chicken tenders. Yes, chicken tenders. I dont know why - ask her. Unfortunately, the foods there are either inappropriately sweet or salty: Chicken tenders and fries are too salty. Appetizer bread, butter, grilled smoked salmon, and dressing - all inappropriately sweet. I think the flavor of their food would be good enough to stand on its own if it were not ruined with the excess salt and sugar. Even worse, the salmon, ordered medium-well, was absolutely raw inside, however, to his credit, the server noticed this while passing by after I had already had a couple of bites, and my company and I were marveling at how uncooked it really was. He took it back to the kitchen to have it cooked it appropriately. I felt sorry for him, being forced to present to his guests what that kitchen puts out. That being said, overall the service was good, with the exception of our hostess who ignored requests to be seated "out of the way", despite several open booths being available. Another peculiar and slightly annoying feature of their service is that from the time we were seated until the time we left, five or six employees handled us: hostess, waiter, bus boy, random manager??, and another server?? who brought us the bill. This is not a problem, but it appears disorganized, meaningless, and prone to unaccountability. I will not return to Coastal Flats.

Were fans but not the raving fans we used to be. Weve come to expect more consistent service from a chain that prides themselves on exceptional service and charges a premium price to match that reputation. Well still return, but not 5x / year like we used to when living closer to their Virginia locations. Atmosphere: Lively and fun without being too loud to carry on a conversation. Service: Not sure what it is about Gaithersburg employee selection, but for some reason this location along with a lot of other local chains in the development seem to be a notch below the service weve come to expect at other local outposts for the same chain. Favorites: Crab cakes, Lobster Roll, Mashed Potatoes, Banana Pudding

Exceptionally friendly staff. Neither my wife or I cared for our food. The batter on the chicken tenders looks lite... but it isnt. The eggs are made with some sort of cream that didnt go over well. The biggest thing was the wait times on the bar. A round of drinks taking 18 minutes seemed a bit long. We were first in on a Sunday brunch. When the drink actually arrived, "I was wondering if there was some Maryland Blue Law that prevented you from serving before a set time." Servers response... "no, sorry about that." Second drink was closer to 10 minutes from order to table, and was not what i ordered. Will give them another shot... just not real soon.

Coastal Flats Delivers Fresh Food and Good service. We didnt have to wait to be seated with our party of three. The server was attentive and brought drinks and fresh rolls right away. The sugar was diminished for sweetening your tea, but the server made sure we were never empty. The food came within a very reasonable time, however the chowder wasnt hot, it was cool. The manager offered to help, but we were in a hurry so declined anything further and stuck with our meal. The chicken salad with cranberries was excellent, as was the lighter grilled chicken meal. The rolls stole the show....cant go without them.

I came here with my family and we were told it would be a 35 minute wait. After 45 minutes, I asked the manager about our wait and he informed us it would be another 5 mins wait. 10 more minutes passed by and my family still werent seated. After an hour and 5 minutes of wait my family was starving but the manager was no where in sight. Frustated we all decided to leave and go eat somewhere else. The hostess we left the pager with didnt seem too bothered about the inconvenience either. We came here happy and hungry, and left mad and starving!! Horrible service and even worse management here. Very disappointed!

I love this restaurant. The food is consistently great. However, two complaints: 1) I always feel rushed through my meal by the servers. Please clear plates, silverware, etc. once everyone member of the party is finished. Its disruptive when items are cleared one-by-one. I want to finish my beer before Im asked about dessert. 2) The napkins are horrible. I always leave with a coat of napkin shedding on my pants and shirt. This is unacceptable. A customer should be able to wear dark clothing and not leave looking like he or she rolled around in flour.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in this area. Amazing service with flavorful dishes will keep you coming back for more. Some of the must-try foods: delicious "Ozzy rolls" (sweet almost donut-like breads that arrive on the house) fritters, deviled eggs with crunchy maple bacon topping, crab cakes, salmon entree, Ocean City salad, noodle salad, shrimp and grits, bread pudding... okay, basically everything. They make a killer mojito too. Run, do not walk, to this neighborhood treasure!

I have been here quite a few times, and consistently have received the same kinda service as today. The food is portion is comparatively small but tasty. However, they can easily make it little less oily, thus healthy. The chicken sandwich bread was toasted in grease which I didnt like at all. Also the server should have mentioned that the regular bread is toasted instead of burger roll. But the cauliflower mash potatoes are to die for...I will be back here for sure..

Been here a few times during my visit to Gaithersburg Rio. First time we sat in the lounge and order food from the bar, Chris was awesome. Next day we just stop by there for a drink and he even remembered my name. He brought us a free appittizer. Next day we took a customer there and Chris but the waitress was good also and we got free appittizer. Food is great atmosphere is casual. And everyone is wearing Hawaiian shirts.

Servings are way too small for the price and the food is not that great. I ordered from the brunch menu "chicken & waffles". It tasted as if they pulled it from the freezer and straight into the microwave (UGH!). On top of that they served half of a waffle (in which I had to ask why & where is the other half) finally the server brought the other half out. Overall, I should have saved my time and money to prepare my own meal.

Food was terrible. For a seafood restaurant the fish selection is rather limited. They ran out of Rock fish and only had trout and salmon. Im from CA, why would I order salmon or trout ? MD is famous for crab cakes but why would I order crab cake from here when I could drive to G&M? Wine selection was limited and $14 for a glass of 14 Hands is outrageous. The retail for 14 Hands is about $7.80 a bottle !!!

Welcomed addition to Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg. Seafood-oriented chain serving up good food and nice service in a relaxed setting. Of the food Ive tried so far, the lobster rolls are well executed here and I enjoyed the deviled eggs starter. Decent selection of beers, wine, and cocktails. Fun staff and patrons, every time I come here. Adding this place to my rotation.
