So we went in last night to eat what everyone was RAVING about. I can say this, The food, was ok. Dessert was really good. Our server, she was awesome. Ive never seen a server hustle like she did. However, the hostess that sat us, waited 3 to 5 mins to tell our server, that she needed a table in her area, that needed to be clean. Mind you, this server was busy taking not one, not 2, but 3 different orders. As we watched, this hostess never picked up anything off this table with a couple of dishes and glasses. She simply waited at the door. impatiently staring at the server. Then proceeded to interrupt the server while taking a customers order, to tell her she needed that table. This appeared to me as being very unprofessional. I will say this, our server never missed a beat and either had her hands full coming or going. And, she kept on smiling. She even paid for our drinks because she felt like she didnt refill them in a timely fashion. Who does that??? She did folks. Came straight out of her own pocket. Sweetheart. So for that, when we visit again, I will ask for her. Stacy was her name. Keep up that positive attitude girl. Good Job!

The Whistle Stop After your expected wait, youll be seated at a cozy booth/table and immediately served your drink a small loaf of fresh, soft bread with strawberry jam Minutes later your fried green tomatoes are sitting in front you. They are thick cut and covered in a wonderfully thin breading. You can actually taste the tomato. Neither the vegetable nor breading overpower the other. The main entrée is the meatloaf, mashed potatoes with fried okra. The breading on the okra is again a very thin coating so that the taste of the okra is unmistakable. The mashed potatoes are real. Bits of skin and unmashed lumps are found throughout. The brown gravy compliments the taste. The mini-meatloaf, not a couple slices of loaf, has a wonderful distinct flavor with a thin tomato glaze over the top. I would recommend this pleasant restaurant. The food I had was delightful and the price was very reasonable. I thank the wonderful woman that told me to go try it. And yes, the restaurant shakes just bit as the train rumbles past outside.

The overall experience of the Whistlestop was very negative. We received a gift certificate from a relative and when trying to use it, several issues came up. First, we were told that it could only be used for food. That is fine, but it should have been printed on the gift certificate, can be used for food only. Finally, my wife ordered two pies at $20 each prior to knowing that the gift certificate could not be used for pies and when we arrived to pick them up, she was told that the gift certificates could not be used for pies but for food from the menu. Their solution to the problem was to allow my wife to purchase only one pie at $20 then use the $50 gift certificate to purchase chicken dinners to go from the menu. When the food was ready, the entire bottom of the "to go bag" was covered in grease from the chicken. Needless to say, the experience was poor and I cannot see how manangement continues to draw customers to their business.

Atmosphere was great! First thing that was extremely odd was when we ordered, we chose an entre with two sides...okay, the bread counted as a side! What...never in all 27 states I have visited and in any of the 1000s of restaurants I have ventered into have I ever not been served bread along with my two sides! Hahaha...In addition to this my husband, who despises and I mean despises ONIONS, always trys to read every single item added into what he orders, of course if its listed on the menu. Well, he chooses the awesome Broccoli Casserole, if it has a few little cooked onions thats okay as long as they dont crunch.....first bite a HUGE CRUNCHY ONION! Oh Dear Lord he almost lost it lol ....they should definitely state this on menu if it has that much lol Oh I did fail to mention if you order fried chicken they tell you its a 25 minute wait hahaha and it was 30 long minutes we sit there after we had ate our appetizers with no bread on the table! Lol

The atmosphere and service was wonderful. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole. The casserole was very good. The mashed potatoes were instant and thats very disappointing. The meatloaf was decent, wished there was more of it but the sweetened tomatoes were almost unsuitable. My wife ordered the terriyaki chicken and that was pretty good. We had the fried green tomatoes for a starter and I enjoyed them immensely tho my wife thought they were too thick. For dessert we ordered the key lime pie and that tasted most foul. It may have been spoiled or just old. We also ordered a slice o coconut creme pie and that was good. Just good. I dont know how good this restaurant was in the past but I think it is riding on those past laurels. We wont return to that restaurant and further wont recommend it to our friends or family because I think you can find better quality home cooking at Crackerbarrel!

Two young travelers, weary from the toils of the road, found solace where it was least expected: a little ways off the beaten path at the Whistle Stop. From the moment their swollen feet crossed the threshold, they knew they were home. Welcomed by friendly smiles and a loaf of bread steaming like a train engine, they slipped into the booth and into The South of the 1900s. They began their culinary journey with mouth watering fried green tomatoes. With barbecue pork good enough to turn a vegetarian carnivorous (and it did), and Mac and cheese that would make a jack rabbit hop right out of its pelt, the Whistle Stop left these travelers as comatose as a hibernating bear. Now thousands of miles away, their hearts remain in the wooden booth of the Whistle Stop.

Like any other restaurant, the service depends on your server of course. I have had some that are exceptional and some that are just okay. I can say the same about the food. There are many dishes with something to please everyone. The restaurant is one of the best authentic, cozy, rustic little dives. The atomostphere fantastic and, even better, it is right in the middle of a small town with its own great charm (for those familiar with Nashville IN, I called this little town a "mini Brown County"). If you live within an hour of this place, you should certainly give it a shot. I dont think you will be disappointed.

After hearing all of the hype about The Whitsle Stop, my wife and I decided to give it a try. I must say that we were disappointed with the food . The fried green tomatoes were tasteless, the pork chops were very salty, tough and dry, the green beens were overcooked and the macroni and cheese came out lukewarm. Definite not the place to go if you are claustrophobic, booths and tables were too small. Service was mediocre. The value paid plus the quality of the food puts The Whitsle Stop on my NAD (Not Another Dime) list.

Party of 6. Two had Reubens - loved them. Two of us, including me, had the Kentucky Brown (exact name?). OMG! Delicious! Split a full order of Fried Green Tomatoes... OK but, not impressed. Even with the special sauce (tartar sauce, minus the pickle relish); kind of bland. Then again, its a fried green tomato. Service: top notch friendly! Showed up 20 minutes before closing - treated like royalty! On a Tuesday night. Wish some of the other local stores had been open, too. Beautiful location.
