Great spot for some excellent brew! An Iowa City establishment, this Java house is a bit more cozy than the one downtown, but just as good. Coffee is made while you wait and is definitely worth the time if its busy. Good selection from drip to froofy and everything in between. My wife digs the HoCho (Hot Chocolate...yes shortened) and with good reason. Lots of area to spread out to study, sit with a book and listen to music or just catch up with friends. The outdoor seating area is nice of spring and summer days - 3-4 tables with a few chairs each are located out there. Essentials like free internet and newspapers are present so theres no excuse to be there and be out of the loop. Great place to stop in and get some of the brew ranging from dessert flavors to engine oil black and everything in between!

I am a graduate student who needs a comfortable place to park my laptop and study. I do not bother coming to this Java House anymore. A large proportion of the store is reserved for people without laptops and who are not there to study. Yes, there are actually signs prohibiting laptops and studying in about a third of the store. There are no outlets in the outdoor patio area, so on a busy Sunday afternoon, when the place is packed with students, these areas remain empty. The coffee and pastry selection is okay, but service is mediocre. Be warned, if you order a cup of coffee, you have to pull the cup out of the dispenser yourself. If for some reason you did not know this rule, you will get an unpleasant reaction from the staff, who will both allow the cup to overfill and allow you to deal with it.

Excellent service, but the setup was a bit confused. Maranda was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and attentive to detail. The tea was fantastic, brewed perfectly, neither too lightly nor too strongly, and the steel-cut oats were exactly as delicious as steel-cut oats should be. We did have a tiny bit of confusion when it came to picking up our coffee, but that may have been due to our own newness to the system here. The coffee itself was very good, certainly worth the trip. It was flavorful, and strong without the bitterness or burnt flavors found in the other coffee shops coffees, which might require cream or sugar. Also, very pleasantly surprised to see almond milk and coconut milk as well as soy milk. Overall, very well done.

Great coffee (St. Louis Blues) I stop here daily for coffee, 3 stars only because there is no WIFI. Yes it shows up however there is no IP address, so you can connect to the network just not the internet. If you sit all the way against the west wall you can pick up the laundromat and their WIFI network is connected to the internet (remarkable I know). I thought this was a media companies issue however after multile visits I found that it is just this establishment. Well time to take my coffee to go and head to another coffee shop to get some work done.

Stopped for a sandwich. Leave my name and wait to be called and wait and wait. Sitting in the first row of chairs 8 feet from the counter after 25 minutes went to the counter wondering how long it takes to make a sandwich. Apparently the food had been sitting there for some time so I asked the woman who took my order "Is this my food?" She said it was and that she called my name three times. Either get a PA system or louder employees. You get 5 stars sorta warm sandwich and -3 stars for the bad experience.

This Java House location doesnt get super busy and you can usually find a table, which is great. In my most recent visit here I had a steamed apple cider and a pumpkin muffin which I loved (its fall and all...). The only downside is that the staff wasnt that friendly overall and their selection of food items seems pretty small. Not a deal breaker for me, though. If youre looking for a no frills coffee shop outside of downtown Iowa City this Java House location would be a decent spot to check out.

My drink order is seldom correct when I go here. Last Saturday I waited 45 minutes for my drink. Other customers who came in after me started complaining and were moved to the front of the line to be served first. Patience apparently gets you no where. I understand if you are busy, but prioritizing rude and pushy customers in front of understanding, patient customers is a quick way to piss someone off and lose a good customer.

The coffee here is generally average quality but they do a good job with espresso drinks. Staff and customer service, on the other hand is quite superior to other places. I always enjoy the atmosphere here. Be advised there is a policy that you may spend only 1 hour at a table. Not STRICTLY enforced, just be aware.

Im not a coffee drinker, but they make pretty good hot chocolate! Great quiet study spot. Their staff is fine with this as long as you get something every once in a while. Ive never had good luck with their wireless, so not the best for internet-intensive studying.

Quick service and friendly staff. Great atmosphere for chilling out on the laptop, hanging with friends or reading. They do like you to limit your time there to 1 hour, but thats not too much to ask for :) not the cheapest but hey, buying coffee is never cheap

One person working @ 5:30. Waited to be acknowledged while line grew to 6 waiting. This is happening more frequently recently. At least get eye contact and tell those waiting you will be with them shortly. We dont need to see what appears a disgruntled person.

I have been a patron of the Java House for years. It consistently provides fantastic coffee and pastries with a great relaxed atmosphere. Erics bad review is obviously driven by his lack of knowledge of great coffee and a desire to push another venue.

Choice place to set up the laptop and get some writing done. Coffee is strong, tastes great; friendly college town atmosphere inside. The 1 hour at a table rule is flexible, staff are reasonable during less busy times

SLOW internet/WIFI! (thus not 5 stars) Great coffee! Im a regular! Remodeled in 2016 when they added Heirloom Salad Co (sister company) next to it. Nice place to work, hang out with friends or just have coffee and eat.

Terrific place for coffee, spending time with friends, or studying. Great hours, nice people, and again, very good coffee. Fireplace for atmosphere in the colder months, and a nice patio for the warmer months.

The best Java House location in my opinion. They have serve yourself sparkling water tap and have just expanded to have Heirloom salads too! Perfect for studying or group projects, lots of room to meet.

Great coffee and food options. Coffee beans are standard for coffee shop with more exciting coffee beans desired. Highly recommended if youre needing to take a couple hours to get work/study done.

Service and drinks and stuff is great. But after the first time I spent an hour there months ago the wifi will never work for me. Theres an hour time limit on the wifi but it wont reset.
