Awesome food, great down home atmosphere. Our server was great, she took great care of us! Unfortunately there was an employee that was quite rude and passive aggressive when asked if we could move two tables together near the front of the restaurant when we first got there. We were leaving our vacation rental and had our dog with us and had to leave him in our running, air conditioned car and we wanted to keep an eye on him. She made us move our tables together and walked away from us like we were annoying her that we just wouldnt sit at another table. It was not a good impression at all, but the other employees redeemed the over all first impression. Would have given a 5, had we not had the initial rudeness.

Usually a big fan of this restaurant, but dont expect good customer service. The women in front, running the desk are horrible. Trashy, unprofessional, judgmental, and rude. God forbid, dont ask for napkins with your to go order, or anything for that matter. Dont look at the menu listed here on Google. You will be surprised to find out, that their page is not updated. WARNING: Their prices have gone up! My poor wife was harassed for calling this to their attention and yelled at; "Next time come here and look at the menu so you know Im not wrong!" Lastly, a receipt was not given and my food was less than par. Probably too close to closing time for anyone to care...

I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. This came with a salad. The salad was a half a head of lettuce with a cruton and a half 2 half wedges of a tomatoe. No preperation to make it look enticing, but oh well. The lettuce tips were brown. I let this go as I was really craving a home - made chicken fried steak.... to much dismay I received a chicken fried steak that you can buy in the fozen section at sams. This was strait out of a pre packaged dinner. The ceiling is low and the place is full of smoke

My wife and I have eaten the regular Friday night grilled Catfish plate with Pinto beans and Cole Slaw, every Friday night for the past two years or so. Obviously we love it. I dont even know where else in this area you can find grilled catfish these days. Even "The Antler" in Spring Branch took it off their menu several months ago. The catfish at Startz Cafe is very good.. The serving size is generous and the price is right. Just remember to bring cash, credit cards are not accepted.

Great food, my husband n I had breakfast, just yesterday morning.. the staff was friendly, our waitress was great.. our 29th anniversary.. I am meeting an old friend there later on for breakfast. Before our 3 1/2 hr trip back home. We will be back again on our next trip to canyon lake. Ty you for a great meal, n loved the history of how the it all came about.. biscuits are awesome. : )

Service and food are well above average. Theyre a great country and family diner. Not sure about a couple of the low reviews. Dont go expecting high French cuisine. Youre getting excellent breakfast, burgers, and chicken fried steak. Its a place with a ton of history. Go and enjoy the place, youll be well fed and treated right.

Service and food is consistently good. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. They do get busy, but the food is worth the wait. Prices are very reasonable. I love the Patty Melts and crunchy tacos! What other restaurants allow you to write a check even if you dont live in Canyon Lake area.

Cant see the fascination that many people have. Its musky, cash only(ATM outside), and the food is similar to a truckstop diner. Giving an extra star for their effort to throw new items in for daily specials on a regular basis and decent desserts.

Good Home Cooking. I was the newbie in a party of 4. Our table had the chicken fried steak (delicious), a huge mushroom Swiss burger, reubens and sweet potato fries. The meat on the sandwiches was tasty and the fries were nice and crispy!

Went in for first time today and we were surprised to find out their special for the day was turkey n dressing w all the fixings. It was delicious. They like to serve it 4 times a year. Will definitely return to try their other meals

Been here twice & its now my new go-to breakfast spot! Real, thick cut bacon, fluffy biscuits, omelet was perfectly cooked. The hot sauce has the perfect amount of heat to it. Service is friendly & quick, prices are cheap.

The burger is fresh, hand made and one of the best Ive ever eaten from a restaurant. Ive not had anything else that I really liked on the rest of the menu, but Ill keep going back for the burger.
