I went to the Hwy. 1 location on Sunday with a group of about 16 ppl. We arrived at 1:20 PM and were told that they close at 2:00 before we were even seated. One of our party went to get phone out of car at about 1:50 and was locked out. Good food, great service, received entre at about 1:10. 10 minutes later at 1:20 the hostess (owner?) came to the table and announced that they were already closed and needed to settle tab. I was in restaurant management for 20 years and was shocked at the blatant way we were rushed out the door, I got indigestion. As I told the hostess, there are many places in Iowa City & Coralville to spend our dining dollars and I will now add that I dont plan to return.

Disappointing. Ive eaten at the east side location and it was great. However, the west side location has the same food (no problem there); but thats about it on the good stuff. Went there for the first time and waited 45 minutes from sitting down to getting our food. There were about 10 people in the place (four in our group) , so I have no clue to the problem. I can see the help isnt as good as the east side either. So, in my book....drive to the east side location!

The food is always great here and affordable. If you like tenderloins like I do be prepared to ask for a to go box!!! The pies are also yummy delicious. Most of the wait staff know us by name and also knows what kind of drinks to bring us depending on the time of day and what time of year it is!!!!! They also work around my food allergies which makes it even more enjoyable for me unlike some other places that just scrape it off and send it back out to me.

Pretty much hospital food. Blah to the point of gross. Its cheap, which is the only positive, but thats because the meat veggies etc seem intended for institutional purposes only. The place has a a good rep among locals because its popular with retirees but thats gotta be because of the prices. Not home cooking. Not some quaint local diner. Save yourself the trip and just swing by the cafeteria at the uihc. Or buy a tv dinner.

My mother and step dad came from Burlington Iowa to have some work done at the hospital. I met up with them and Ive been here before for breakfast. We wanted the top sirloin. It was absolutely nasty. It had no flavor, the mashed potatoes were not all the way mashed and cold in the center. We spent 50 dollars on this meal in regret. Will not return for lunch.

Listened to the server complain about her tips and rude guests to another customer. While she never checked on us till we were just about done. Food wasnt very good and was wrong but she never checked on us and by the time she did we just wanted to leave, unsatisfied. Wonder why she gets bad tips!!

I used to love this place. Last two times I was here its been bad. Last time we went they served my wife nearly raw chicken. When we complained and sent it back, the replacement did not come until other dinners were finished. They were jerks and charged us full price.

Great staff, great prices- hands down the best onion rings and bacon cheeseburger I have had in a looooong time! ALSO THEY RECENTLY REMODELED! Place is super clean and looks great! They are also great about accomodating larger groups (with a bit of notice ;))

Just like the other midtown, the food has zero flavor. Bring your own spices if you want flavor in the food. Its homestyle comfort food. For the prices you could probably make a lot tastier food at home. Location is clean, but staff are not the friendliest.

I Was not impressed. Small portions, and high prices for what you get. On our visit we waited a LONG time for our food. Our waiter never checked on us during our wait. When we got the food is was cold, Id go to village inn instead.

The wait staff is always friendly! The restaurant is clean and kid friendly. The food is inexpensive and breakfast is served all day. The chocolate pie was delicious and it is free with entree and drink on mondays & wednesdays!

Excellent food and very friendly staff. We were checked on by our waitress several times and the manager asking how our food was. We loved the huge tenderloins and the hot roast beef. Will definitely visit here again.

Midtown has a good breakfast expecially if you are looking for something to go and you dont want to have to settle for a fast food chain. I have only ate there for breakfast so I cant recommend it for any other meal.
