My wife was taking me there for my birthday and Id been looking forward to this all week as Ive seen them on Chicagos best. They opened at 11, we arrived at 2. Upon the waitresses arrival and asking what wed like to drink, ordering 3 colas, I informed the waitress, I was looking forward to the ribs. She them promptly informed us, they were out of ribs and burnt ends. Very disappointed and wanting to leave, my wife convinced me to stay. I ordered the rib tips, my wife, the brisket, and my son the pulled pork brisket sandwich. When the order finally arrived, the rib tips were cold and in most places, like chewing on a bone, as my son tried to bite one, he thought it was bone. He said, " beef jerky is easier to chew." He also pointed out our waitresses attitude, "hardly a sunny disposition." My son and I didnt finish the meal. My wife said, "I will never go there again." This was a first in our 23 years of marriage Ive ever heard these words from her mouth. We paid $38.54 without tip, for this extremely disappointing experience.

The first time I went to eat here I couldnt get anything I wanted. I overheard the only things left were wings and brats. I wanted brisket. Gave it another try a couple days later, no brisket only pulled chicken. I ordered it and waited....and waited. The couple next to me at the bar got there brats and they were wrong the first time and cold the second time served. I got my chicken sandwich, it was cold! The bartender threw it out. I still wanted to try the brisket. Gave it another try and got the brisket, cold. My family tried the ribs (dry), pork chop was ok. I still tried it again by myself for the brisket, this time it was warm and tasty. Waitstaff is average at best. I enjoyed the craft beer taps too. Why cant barbecue places serve the food hot?

Best BBQ in the north. The flavors are great and the portions are large. I can usually get 2-4 meals from my orders. Important to know... if you know you are going you should make reservations. South Moon will cook only a certain amount of food each day. If you have your heart set on having ribs order your food when you make your reservations to be sure you will get ribs. I know that this might irritate some people, but I truly believe it helps to keep their overhead down by not throwing away as much food daily. Staff has always been helpful with suggestions. Even kept the bbq sauce bottle at the register when we bought the bottle but forgot it on the table.

Im not a fan of BBQ but I crave the nachos! OMG! Looking for a strong sweet beverage? Try the South Moon Punch. Staff is awesome. I love to sit out on the patio and watch the river go by. After we eat I always find someone to play beanbags with. Dont forget to stop in and see the upper floor. Vintage arcade like Ive never seen before. Ive seen peddle bike clubs as well as motor bikes on the patio at the same time. They joked and carried. Everytime I come everyone, including the customers, act like old friends. Its really so nice to sit and relax amongst new and old friends.

Burnt tips box, an appetizer, is so good here that it might be illegal in some states. I came here to try them and the brisket sandwich, which was outstanding also. This is their second location, and I have heard they had some issues when they first opened. (Slow service, etc.) They seem to have worked out those issues. We were served promptly on a busy Saturday night. Bottom floor is a bar area with seating. Second floor is more your standard restaurant. Historic mill property right on the Fox River.

I usually love this place and come down here I havent been down there in a while but me and some friends of mine are trying to eat dinner and theres four of nitrous guys with vulgar language and making fun of the customers around and I guess they come down every Sunday and to me its just not right it was not an enjoyable experience okay you would think that the management would not put up with that kind of behavior that they belong more like Miss Lees or at the web

Great food, cool old building with cool atmosphere, and fast service. There is also an arcade upstairs with retro games. Sometimes when we come here one particular member of the wait staff is a bit surly (Example: Me - "Do you guys have coke?", Staff Member - *Rolls Eyes* "Uh know! We have pepsi!", Me - "Okay... Sorry...") which has been noted be several different groups of people we have come with...

WTF How can a restaurant presumably in business tell patrons that the kitchen is not taking orders. While already have waited 45 minutes for a half empty dinning room one bus boy walks up to the other and said" here is 30 dollars can you go buy more brats for the store.". 5 minutes later our waitress stated our food could be 12 minutes but cant make any guarantees. Our table had ordered 4 brats...

From the basement bar to the downstairs dining area & on up to the upstairs banquet room this little gem if full of nostalgia. The pulled pork was outstanding and baked beans were the best Ive had in a very long time. The staff was friendly and the views were wonderful. Looking forward to my next visit!

Awesome BBQ joint. A little out of the way from the rest of the suburbs, but worth the drive every once in a while. I had The Steve (very apropos), which is pulled pork, brisket, and a brat. The brats are great. The sauces on the table are all pretty tame. Ask for the nitro sauce made with ghost pepper!

We were sitting at our table for over 10 minutes without a greeting or drink order, so we walked out and thoroughly enjoyed the mexican restaurant across the street. Its sad because I like supporting places like this, but theu need someone in there who actually knows how to run a restaurant.

What a great setup with this historical building and great patio river setting. Not to mention the barbecue is stellar. Service could have used a boost but we werent really in a hurry and the staff was fairly new. Im sure they will get on track. Highly recommend.

This place has some of the best BBQ I have had since I have been to Austin, TX. The burnt ends, spice potato salad, and habenaro hot sauce and all outstanding. Be careful of the hot sauce and take it easy at first. It is pretty darn hot!

One of the absolute best barbecue experiences I have ever had. Food was packed with flavor, servers were attentive, and the bill was surprisingly cheap. I will personally be back, and strongly recommend South Moon BBQ to anyone.

Enjoy not supporting a chain bar-b-Q My third visit and wont be my last I enjoy the ribs, brisket, and tacos Only criticism best stick with the frys for a side ,the other choices are not up to the same standard as the entrées

Told the table next to us that the kitchen is no longer taking tickets... Horrible service. Food is decent if you can get it. Out of beers and meats. Told us 1-1.5 hours for burnt ends and 30 minutes for pulled chicken.
