*Update 4/22/2016* Ive gone back a few times since my original review below. The fries Ive gotten since my first visit have all been fresh so it appears I was just unlucky with getting old fries before. The brisket still rocks and the pulled pork has been better (probably same issue as the fries.) I have not bothered with trying the beans again and have recently stopped ordering the corn bread muffin which I just dont care for. When I go now I just get the Brisket and Fries and have not been let down so Ive increased my rating from a 3 to a 4. Still on the expensive side but at this point I feel the brisket is worth it. **Old Review** Went here for my first time last Friday after getting off of work. Service was fast and friendly, I ordered a 2 meat platter with brisket, pulled pork, fries, and barbecue beans. Also ordered a fountain soda and a cornbread muffin. As far as looks are concerned the food looked great. Unfortunately, with the exception of the brisket, the taste was a let down. The pulled pork was very dry in the mouth, even with sauce, like it had been overcooked. Same thing with the fries, very dry and crispy, not sure if they were old or just fried for too long. Even the barbecue beans were dry as though they had been dried out and dumped in sauce. The cornbread muffin didnt do anything for me either, it seemed to crumble very easily, the weirdest part was the bottom 3rd of the muffin seemed to have been soaked in butter. Hands down the brisket was the best, full of flavor, tender and moist, I loved every slice of it. I liked the potential of the food, it just failed to deliver. Could have been my timing (arrived between 4:30-5:00PM), or maybe they just dont get enough business to keep cooking things fresh throughout the day? Either way, I dont know if I will be back, the price was rather expensive for the quality: $16.95. One last comment was I drove past this place several times over the last 2 months wondering if they were still open for business. There were no cars in the parking lot and with the combination of my sunglasses and their dark interior I could not see any lights on inside.

Sliced brisket is fantastic. The burgers are like what you make at home. The Cow "Meats" Pig burger is definitely something to try, its a burger with pulled pork on top. both the regular fries and sweet potato fries are good. Corn bread is cold but, they will warm it up if you ask. Good choice of sauces to try and a special "Alabama White" sauce is also very good. None of the food feels manufactured.

My boyfriend and I were very hungry after a night of drinking so we decided to give the Hickory Pit a chance. We were very glad we did because the food came out super quick and was delicious. The environment was also really comfortable so we sat and talked there for an hour or so. Well definitely be returning customers if traveling in or around McHenry.

When they first opened everything was delicious. Seems they have changed their bean and coleslaw recipes. Not nearly as good. Bread tasted old the last 3 times. Brisket often times not available at 6:00 at night. The meat is good but nothing else. They have lost my husband and I as regular customers. Back to the Texan BBQ for us.

This is the best BBQ in the area! Ive tried places in Lake Zurich and Crystal Lake. Umm they are not so much. When I want the good stuff, I go here. The ribs are so good with anyone of their sauces. Not to mention the hickory fries with your choice of meat on top are a full meal on their own. Do check this place out!

I have never had a bad meal here. There sides are outstanding. I would highly recommend the Brisket Chili. Also there burgers are very tasty. Have used there carry out several times and every time our friends and family members have loved the food. If you havent tried them and you like BBQ you should.

I used to come here often for dinner. The pulled chicken sandwich was my favorite. I went last night around 4:30. It had been over a year since my last visit. Quality has gone down. Pieces of my chicken sandwich were actually cold to the touch. It just didnt taste the same. I was disappointed.

Definitely coming back! I tried the 2 meet Combo. Pulled pork and chopped brisket. Sauces were great. I really liked the Carolina Mustard and the Chipotle Maple. Baked beans were on par! Slaw is a mix between mayo/vinegar. If youre in the area, definitely try this place out!

We have been looking for a BBQ restaurant locally. We found it! Great environment, awesome hot links. Pulled chicken, beef brisket and pulled pork. The green beans out of this world good! Yummy corn muffins and mac and cheese. Bonus they have a variety of bottled beer!

Not the cheapest place to get lunch but the food is very good. Only place in town you can get a good BBQ or smoked meat lunch. Been several times and the quality is constant. Usually get it to go. The dining room is clean but it is kind of plain and lacks character.

Decent BBQ. Not the best, but not horrible either. Tried the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and the sausage. The ribs were ok, pulled pork was dry, and brisket was decent. The sauce made everything better. The sausage was slightly salty but really good and spicy!

Great BBQ. Love the brisket and pulled pork. Nice selection of sauces including one vinegar based and a mustard sauce, which I appreciate very much since I dont like sweet sauce. 5th time here and havent been disappointed yet.

Was excited to see a BBQ joint open locally, with high expectations i was sincerely let down, theres very little in common with the real deal. Food quality and portions were more akin to fast food than a barbecue joint.

I am always eager to try something new on the menu. I have never been disappointed with the food at Hickory Pit. Good food served in a comfortable setting. At great place for meeting friends and meet-ups.

Their BBQ is amazing! Definitely some of the best Ive had. Downside? On weekends you have to act fast as they tend to run out of meats. One day it was pork and brisket and the next they were out of ribs.

Outrageous prices and Ive had better...a family meal at a bbq joint Ive been to numerous times is $12.59, 1.5 lbs of pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, rolls and 12 buns included

Hickory Pit delivers good barbecue and fresh sides. I usually steer toward the brisket and sweet potato fries. Collard greens are always good, when available.

Really good barbeque. Had a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top and my buddy had some spicy sausages. Both were tasty. Their sauces are also good.
