I loved this place. I got the scallops for a started and they were the best scallops i have had. I also tried the octopus that came with it or i think thats what its called anyway. That was the only time i have ever been able to eat it. I tried it another time at Volare resteraunt in chicago and it tasted like a car tire there. I also got a steak here and it was perfectly cooked and so tender i couldnt believe it. The best steak i have had in a very long time. I ordered a crown royal and coke as well and it was made perfect as well. Every bit of my experience here was amazing. My fiancé did not like the first dish she ordered which was amish chicken with some yogurt stuff and it was terrible, but the waiter took it back and she ordered something different and she loved it. Also on a side note they did not charge me for the chicken my fiancé ordered and did not like so that was really cool of them. Over all this is one of the best restaurants i have eaten at. They are pretty expensive for what i am used to but all things taken into account we spent around $150 for the two of us including the tip so it was not too bad. I would recommend this to anybody and everybody who is going to be in chicago.

Just wanted to grab a solid lunch a small distance away from Hilton Chicago...and boy did The Gage not disappoint. They were pretty packed, but I was able to sneak into a high-top, snug in a back corner (not a big deal, I mean, it was just me eating). The waiting staff was super attentive and my server Wes informed me that they had Zombie Dust on tap when I asked about their selection of IPAs...one of my favorites! I also ordered the baby kale salad, which was on point! It had some flavorful thick cut bacon with a hint of a sweet glaze. It meshed well with the dressing and the tomatoes. Wes also pointed out a few popular items on the menu, but I ultimately went with my gut (and his first suggestion)...the Veal Burger. I tell you what...it came out cooked perfectly and it was all around fantastic. An explosion of flavors from spicy to savory to a little sweet from the sauteed onion. I didnt leave a single scrap on my plate. I will definitely be returning when I am in Chicago again as this was just a great lunch experience for me overall. Thank yous go out to the staff and the kitchen! Superb Job!

The Gage has a very dark setting. To our surprise, it was very easy to get a table for two on a Saturday night. We were on weekend in Chicago and scoured Yelp for good eats--I guess the real wait is for brunch? Anyhow, we ordered a bottle of Riesling and settled in with the menu. A has a penchant for scotch eggs, so we got that. Compared with the one wed had before, where the egg was runny, this ones yolk was solid. Mussels Vindaloo, Toast 16 - good! very interesting with a flavored broth--wed been on a mussels binge around that time, so lots of garlicky, milder broths, but this one was spiced! Gage N-17 "Fondue" Butter Kaase, Brie, Spinach, Toast 11- not too memorable..I think i prefer my cheese in chunks so i can spread or slice as I please Bison Tartare Apple, Pear, LAmuse Gouda, Egg, Giardiniera Emulsion 16 - Pretty good--on the smaller side, but most tartares come that way.. Beet Salad Goat Cheese, Honey Comb 12- this was yummy and pretty, too! All different colored/spiraled(heirloom) beets and cheese and chunks of honey comb--yum! Great date spot, be ready to pay up.

Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, got there about 12:30 and had about a 30 minute wait. Service was prompt, attentive, and friendly, and the food was good. The tables are all very close to each other, and the noise level was a little above what Im really comfortable with. Everything is a hard surface, so it just echoes around in there. I had heard this was a gastropub with a good beer selection. The beer selection was eclectic, but underwhelming. I had expected something like the Muddy Pig from the Twin Cities in terms of beer selection, so partly I overexpected. They have about 20 beers on tap from what I recall of the menu, and maybe equal the number in bottles. I had the slow roasted pork sandwich, a bit dry but tasty. My table also ordered the brussels sprouts with brie which was fabulous, and the wild mushroom sandwich - also very good. The prices we paid for our food was reasonable for the kind of restaurant this is. I would go back if Im in Chicago, but hopefully at a less noisy time.

I read the reviews before I went to visit this restaurant for the first time and I was expecting a great meal. Wow was I disappointed. I ordered the venison burger which was recommended by the server and the reviews I read before hand. I ordered it medium well and it came to me so bloody pink it disgusted me. I sent it back and as they always say be reluctant to send something back to the cook. Well he showed me and it came back so well done it was crunchy all the way through. I couldnt even eat it I requested the manager to explain to him what happened and after some discussion he reluctantly took it off my bill. However he just kept pushing that I get a dessert instead. I was not hungry for dessert I was hungry for a venison burger that the reviews raved about. I would be reluctant to return based on the cook and the manager. However I have to say the server was great and so were the fried pickle chips we had as an appetizer. Maybe next time if I return they will be able to get it done right.

This place is really popular with the lunch crowd so if you dont want to wait, get there early to beat the crowd. Its got a great pub like atmosphere but its really approachable and friendly as well. Theres ample bar seating as well as regular tables. The decor is modern with a hint of the old world so its got a really eclectic atmosphere about it. If youre looking to host a private function, they have a room downstairs, away from the hustle and bustle of the usual lunch crowd. It has enough space to seat around 50 yet is intimate enough to have a conversation. The food is pretty good, standard American fare - burgers and fries are their staple and they do it very well. The fries are freshly cut and fried, the burgers and meaty and grilled to perfection. The portions are not huge though, so if youre looking for a heavy lunch, you might be left wanting a little more.

This place will never be on cuisines cutting edge, but its hard to ask for a better place for lunch or an after dinner drink. Much like any loop sit down restaurant, reservations are a very good idea if you want to sit down when you get there. Started with the fondue. The cheese was excellent, but the toast was a little hard (on the stale side). Person I was with got the sausage trio, which was very interesting. One was a little on the gritty side, but had excellent flavor. I got the skirt steak special, and, while beautifully cooked, was left wanting to have had something else done with it. The atmosphere was very pleasant, though it could get a little loud for some, the service was swift, attentive and friendly, and the menu made me very torn on what to get. Definitely a place to go back to (and might even get a better rating).
