Tandoor may serve Indian food, but it sure doesnt have any sense of Indian hospitality and customer service. The food at tandoor char house is good but it is no Gaylords (100 W. Walton) or Viceroy of India (located on Devon avenue), or my all time favorite Indian restaurant Shikara (Downers Grove, Il). The food also is very mild and not very flavorful. Regardless of the food, the service is terrible, the restaurant itself seems a bit unclean and the kitchen seems to make a lot of mistakes. Ive been to the restaurant and received the wrong order several times, which can be annoying if you are really ready to eat. Do not even think of ordering delivery from tandoor. Once I ordered and waited about three hours for food and was told they are having a busy day and I let it go. The second time I ordered my food it was delivered in an hour as promised but it was someone elses order. The driver then picked up that order to deliver it to the proper owner (makes me wonder what could be happening to my food before it reaches me), and I had to wait two hours for my actual order. The third time I ordered from tandoor the driver didnt show up for three hours and the manager at tandoor kept telling me it was on its way. Finally they figured out the food was sent to the wrong place once again. When the food arrived three hours and fifteen minutes later, it was about half of what we ordered and miscellaneous items and the food seemed burnt and ill prepared. Tandoor is a great choice if you are in no rush to get your meal, and have three or more hours to kill.

I was in the neighborhood and looking for a good meal and stumbled upon Tandoori Char. What a treat! I ordered the Beef Nehari and an order of plain naan and a Strawberry Lassi (yogurt smoothie) to drink. The entree came with a complimentary salad with lots of diced cucumber and tomatoes. Very refreshing. The Nehari was rich and nuanced the beef was of a prime cut and was extremely tender. Its a spicy dish which I like. My waiter, Julian, asked me if I would like It somewhat more or less spicy than usual. I explained I liked it quite spicy but not over the top (which is what sometimes happens in these situations). But when it came out it was just the right level of spice Nailed it! The rice was flavorful but not overwhelming. The naan was something special! I think the make it in house and probably from scratch. The yogurt smoothie (Lassi) was flavorful, if not a touch sweet, and cut the spicy-ness nicely. Highly recommend. Of note: the portion size was rather large and I had extra to take home. Entrée + naan + drink (non-alcoholic) + tip =$30

Tandoor Char House used to be my favorite, go-to restaurant. Ive eaten here with my family and friends over a dozen times, and I have ordered it delivery many times. Tonight, I had one of the worst service experiences of my life - which is saying a lot given that my husband and I go out to eat frequently and I grew up in the restaurant business. After waiting for over ten minutes for a server at the beginning of out meal, we were lingering a bit at the end while my friend and husband finished their wine. We had only been at our table for approximately an hour and ten minutes. The manager sent the hostess over to our table with a coupon for two free appetizers and asked that we leave so they can seat someone else. I will never be returning. The restaurant scene in Chicago is too dynamic and interesting to give a place like this a second chance after such terrible, pushy behavior. We were celebrating my birthday at my favorite place, and I will never return. Very disappointed.

I visited this place for my brother in laws birthday. The food was amazing! What makes this place particularly good is before they bring out each dish, it is thoroughly explained to you. We started out with the chicken pakora dish which uses only white meat which was delicious and not too much oil. Also, you cant go wrong with the Nihari which is a Pakistani dish, I also enjoyed the Mango Lassi. If you go to this place, do not forget to order the "Achar" or "Chatni" which is the owners great grandmothers recipe. Other items that I really enjoyed were the fries. The fries were infused with spices which gave it just a little bit of a kick. Along with my meal, I had mango lassi (a traditional pakistani drink(, which was really good. To end the dinner, we had a mango cheese case. This was incredibly good and surprisingly light. This restaurant gives a different and refreshing look at Pakistani and Indian food. A must visit if your in the area.

Best dinner out in a while! It was fantastic. I was super impressed by the food, service, prices, portions were a little small but still all in all, definitely worth the trip. The ambiance is lovely, they are so accomodating. We had a large party with people getting up and moving around and it felt completely comfortable. At one point the owner offered to have someone run and get us a few more bottles of wine. Never felt rushed, always felt warm and welcomed. Did I mention it was BYOB, score!!! Food was an interesting demonstration of the concept of mixing traditional with more current trends. The tandoori chicken tikka masala was a big hit with everyone. What a great idea of combining two of my favorites! Chaat fries were unique and delightful! The lamb dish and eggplant in some sort of yummy sauce that I got to sample were also right on! The tandoori chicken pizza was intriguing, but I have to have something to look forward to next time.

This is the best Indian food Ive ever eaten. Their Tikka Masala sauce is unreal. I suggest the Mutter Paneer Tikka Masala (which is cubes of firm cheese), although the shrimp and mahi mahi are also good in that sauce. Havent tried the meat options. We literally wont go anywhere else for indian food, which says a lot. Better than almost every place on Devon Ave, and much closer to where we live in Lakeview. VERY Veggie-friendly. BYOB, $5 corkage fee. Its worth it because they will chill your wine for you, provide frosted beer mugs, etc. The service is overall fantastic. No complaints here. Very polite and friendly, quick too. Garlic Naan are huge, 1 order feeds 2 people. Also, I left my glasses there once. The next time I came in, they still had them, and spent half an hour trying to locate them for me.

My girlfriend and I have been meaning to try this place for over a year. We live in the area, and have walked past dozens of time. Well last night, we finally made a res and had dinner, and were kicking ourselves for waiting so long to eat here. The food was DELICIOUS. Its a small, almost family style setting, but its not cramped or stuffy. The owners and founders run around and help take tables and talk about the food, of which they are very passionate, and with good reason. Each item we tried was as tasty as the next, and the the fact they are BYOB adds a bit to the appeal: you can pick up a $15 bottle of wine and enjoy a meal youd be proud to show any "out-of-towner." HIGHLY recommended, and definitely come with an appetite, or a plan to take a to go box.
