Let me preface this review by stating that my wife and I have had some of the most amazing food at some truly hole-in-the-wall places. Los Avinas is a hole in the wall for sure. I so wanted this place to be a hidden gem that was so close to our home. Unfortunately it was not to be. My wife and I actually left Los Avinas after getting our drinks, and the chips/salsa and the "guacamole dip." Please read on. Our experience started with an awkward encounter with an employee right upon entering the front door as she "greeted" us with an awkward stare as she spun some prize wheel, and punched a balloon on a string. I tried to make it less awkward by saying "Hey, hows it going?" to which she returned my icebreaker with an even colder, more blank stare as she punched the balloon yet again. No "Oh, welcome to Los Avinas, please find a seat!" - nope - just an awkward stare. We sat outside because the main dining area was depressing. The outside seating was shaded by a poorly built "pergola" and five tables with thirty folding chairs ...Im not exaggerating on the chairs. The persistent smell of cat urine was also accented by a waft of feces towards the latter part of our visit. My wife and I were still holding out hope that the food would be good... Never got the chance to find out. The time it took to get our initial drink order was less than favorable, but not a huge deal. The staff seemed eager to clean the table off, and serve us with the default chips/salsa, and their efforts were appreciated. My wife and I ordered their self-described "signature" jumbo margaritas - one frozen, and one on the rocks - and they were forgettable at best. The best word to describe their drinks? "BLAH." We also attempted to order "guac" or "guacamole" to which the well-intentioned server corrected us, and said "oh you want the guacamole dip?" to which we answered with a question - "suuure?" I had a bad feeling about the guacamole "dip." I contend that any Mexican restaurant should have GOOD guacamole. This place has some disgraceful, slimy, disgusting excuse for "guacamole" that they even tip as crap by calling it "dip." Taco Bell has better guacamole on their best nacho offerings, and Im being generous. This SLIMEY, green stuff was simply GROSS. My wife took one scoop of this green substance, and it became VERY clear what we needed to do next: We lied to the server when he asked us what we wanted to order for entrees. We told him "the sitter called, and one of our kids got sick" to avoid being served entrees as horrible as the salsa, and green "stuff" they were trying to pass as guacamole dip. We tipped over half the bill because the server was very kind, but we left without giving the entrees a chance. The menu was ominous with the tired numbered system, and cliche "family dishes" named after token hispanic names which were obviously fake as their guacamole. I have NEVER left any restaurant without even giving the entrees a chance, but Los Avinas provided is with a new experience in this regard. If I could offer a negative star review, then I would. What a horrible disappointment. Henry county can do better, and does currently do better with the handful of Taco Bell franchises sprinkled about.

Reading some of these 1 Star Reviews in regards to Los Avinas drives me nuts! I wish I could respond back to them! Los Avinas was, at one point the ONLY Mexican Restaurant in Mcdonough Ga. I have been a happy customer of theirs for 20+ years and never, ever have I had a complaint. Miguel and Angel (The Owners) are one of the most caring, respectable, on top of it owners I have ever met. I was a server in the restaurant industry for 15years and I know what having a horrible manager feels like. They have worked their tails off to serve Mcdonough for so long and still are going to this day. We have been there every year for Cinco De Mayo, and YES, if you decide to go out on Cinco De Mayo, to a Mexican Restaurant and expect for things to be tip top in shape then next time, Stay home! Especially when your going to one of the most well known Mexican Restaurants in the Mcdonough area! They do not only serve food, they also run contest, have bands/karaoke and so much more, so yeah, things are not going to be as orderly. There is no need to discuss their food because thats easy, its ALWAYS been AMAZING and the Salsa is THE BEST! However the one review over the "cat pee smell on the patio" if you look around that supposed horrible patio you will see flowers and vines, well, that would be your smell, as some bloom and smell like CAT PEE! My friends and I sit out there EVERY YEAR, and have always had a blast! We love all of yall at Los Avinas and even though we now live in Locust Grove, we still will always make that Additonal 15min drive up to see you guys and get that exceptional, friendly, everybody knows your name service we have always loved and enjoyed along with those delicious Chimichangas!! YUM!!!

Went here for cinco de mayo celebration tonight havent been to eat here in a few years but remembered food was pretty good and since Toribios closed we needed somewhere to go for good food and free t-shirts, lol , the wait was not bad to get a table maybe 15-20 min , once we got seated it was like 15 min to take drink order server said Ill get you some chips and salsa 10 min later chips and salsa shows up still no drinks ,15 min later drinks show up , not our server though , said shed be right with us , after an hour finally we get to place our order , then after sitting there for another 45 min noticed no food is coming out of the kitchen , NOT ANY , everyone around is complaining i asked server what the problem was she said they are just busy , CANT figure out why she said busy but seriously NOT A PLATE OF FOOD came out of the kitchen for almost an hour , then when we were leaving one of the kitchen staff was pissing out back in the parking lot , im sure he washed his hands afterwards, yeah right ! , this whole experience of just wanting to get some food with my family on this made up holiday that Mexicans dont even celebrate took 3 hours , i would have left if it wasnt for my time spent waiting was having great conversation with my daughters , wont be going back there ever again ,food was terrible, only gave us one t-shirt where every other places weve been in the past we all got one each , but the guy pissing out back topped it off !!!

Went there tonight with wife and had to walk out. First let me say that this is not our first time there but tonight was the worst. Once we seated ourselves we were brought the salsa and nachos and after nearly 15 minutes we still were not given flatware, menus or even approached by a server. Then a party of approximately 6-8 were seated and given menus and approached by a server. That was enough for us to depart but not before speaking with the manager. When I went to the front and asked to speak with the manager I was told that he was busy. I asked the cashier if the manager was too busy to speak with a customer and was again told he was busy. It wasnt until I insisted that he speak with me that he was then informed of my presence. I will say he was very polite and apologized, however the dye was cast at this point.
