I visited Louisiana Bistreaux for lunch on a Thursday. I sat at the bar and waited a few minutes for the bartender to come. She was getting something from the back I assume; it wasnt such a biggie because I was on the phone anyway. I ordered the chowder, and I wanted something with a cream sauce, so she suggested the Salmon Wellington, which was a lunch special they offered. I took her suggestions and awaited the arrival of my food. After about 10 minutes I asked if my soup would come out before my food. She stated "I thought it was to go?" I looked and said, "um, no." She went to the back to change the order and have my chowder sent out for here (no apology.). I was a little annoyed because I was wondering what I did or said to make her think it was to go. I let that go, then the hostess brought out gumbo. I said "I had the chowder." He repeated "oh you had the chowder?" He said it almost as a question to the bartender, but she didnt acknowledge him. He left to go get the chowder, and I am thinking to myself, "dang she hasnt even said a quick Im sorry at the least for getting my order confused." I was a little more annoyed at this point. He brought the chowder out, and of course my food arrived 2 minutes later. I eat the chowder, then start on my food. The meal wasnt what I was expecting, but I try not to complain too much when I am out to eat so I just picked at it some. She asked if I liked her suggestion, and I told her it was different; the salmon was wrapped in a pastry and I wasnt expecting that. She was surprised I didnt care that much for it, but she didnt even offer to switch my meal out. Although I figured I would just grin and bear it, and hope the leftovers taste better later, I would have at least liked the offer. I still tipped her 18 percent (not my normal 20) because she was nice, and she tried. Lol. I just think possibly she is new at Bartending and hasnt learned how to juggle everything at once: taking orders, making drinks, checking on customers and making sure they have everything they need etc. (I saw the manager coaching her on how to make a drink.). From one bartender to another, please learn how to multitask. It was literally 2-3 people at the bar the entire time I was there, so there was really no reason why my order was messed up, why I didnt have a fork, why I had to ask for water and napkins etc. I would go back, though; based on the other reviews I think I would probably enjoy it more the next time. This was the new Decatur location, btw.

Let me just preface this by saying I do not eat seafood, but Ill try to be objective as possible on this review. Ive passed this establishment a lot and have been told its a good place and I need to check it out. First impression though was not that flattering. There was this foul odor as soon as we walked into the restaurant. I thought at first perhaps it was seafood being cooked, but it couldnt have been because my companion who eats seafood agreed that the smell was a bit off. I will say though the staff was very friendly and attended to us right when we walked in, took our order right away and checked on us which prompted me to give this review 3 out of 5. As I said in the beginning, Im not a seafood person and the menu here consists of a lot of seafood entrees (I get it though, its resembling Louisiana cuisine), so my options were a bit limited. I noticed the price of the entrees were a bit high. The Jalapeno burger I ordered was roughly $11 which came with a side of potatoes that were a tad under seasoned. I do wish the menu stated or I was told that they would apply a sauce to the burger. Im not sure what the sauce was (some kind of mayonnaise I assume) but I thought it was too much and got my burger a little soggy which made for a bit of a mess. I had also asked for a medium well burger and instead the burger was well done. In the end, my order was okay, I just couldnt finish it because of the over bearing sauce and that smell upon entering the restaurant kind of depleted my appetite. Id recommend this place to anyone who likes seafood, and hopefully that foul odor was just a fluke. If you are not into seafood though, I would suggest another location.

The shrimp ceasar salad was perfect, I ordered the shrimp and grits and thats when it when down hill. The shrimp on the grits were amazing the grits were nasty. I complained to my waitress that in return substituted the grits with us seasoned fried red potatoes. Needless to say it was an epic fail. While searching for my waitress I notice several people in my party having issues with there bill. I then witnessed the serving staff huffing and puffing. Their attitudes were horrible. Then the manager Maria Davis was worst, she basically stated that someone gave the party lunch menus at 4pm by mistake. When in fact she should have honored the lunch prices. She then stated that the system automatically charged the party dinner prices. She explained that she spoke to her general manager that advised her to remove the soft drinks only. I then kindly approached her to ask her why was she so agitated. I told her that she was being rude and that the staff behavior was unacceptable as well. She told us that she apologize if thats our reality of her. I was done from that point. That was my first and last time. I knew better, I told my husband before we pulled up to order a salad so we could go to spondivits afterwards.

I went to this place because Im originally from New Orleans and I wanted a taste of home, I ate there and the food was GREAT. so the next day I wanted a take out order for work. I ordered an oyster po boy which I was told you can only eat that in the restaurant. ??? Because if you eat cooked oysters they served to you outside the restaurant and get sick their liable, so if I buy raw meat not cooked meat from the grocery and get sick their liable? ?even in New Orleans you can buy an oyster po boy for take out. So what are they saying...that their buying bad oysters? BAD business you should be able to do what you please with anything you pay for as long as it within the law. Im NOT trying to take a cooked oysters po boy back to New Orleans for travel Im only taking the sandwich to my home. As an adult it still should be my choice if I like soggy oysters and not the owner. I thought maybe they want you to come in and order due to the price of oysters. But nooo, they want to run a business and tell you how to eat. Well whats next? their going to tell you when to drink and when to go to the restroom? Im an ADULT. that should be my PREROGATIVE.
