My husband and I just returned home from dinner here with friends and our experience was so bad that it was the push we needed to create an account and post a review. At these (expensive!) prices, no one should go here without being warned--especially those folks who were standing in line waiting to get in as we were leaving. Madness! At 8:30pm, even the best Atlanta restaurants dont have a line--please dont wait for this place. We arrived to meet friends at 6:30 and they were already seated. The ambiance inside was a pleasant surprise. Our first indicator probably should have been when the waiter started taking our order--and stopped in the middle to take a phone call (the phone was in his pocket). He walked away with the phone and after several minutes, another waiter came to get the rest of the order! We waited a fair amount of time for our soups, salads, and a shared appetizer (came out all at the same time). While we were waiting, our friend ordered a second glass of wine that didnt come for at least thirty minutes. The salads were OK and the soups--gumbo and chicken soup--each got good reports. The appetizer, "Crabmeat en coquille," was not a good choice. The pastry appeared to be from a frozen, not home-made, pastry dough. The waiter was very accommodating in getting our friends 5-year-olds meal out as soon as possible. It came out with the salads, etc. This seems like it would be a good thing, except we couldnt possibly know that our entrees would not come out for an hour after the child had finished his meal! All told, we were seated for an hour and a half before we got our entrees. The worst part was that for the final hour (after we received our salads), we were not visited at all by our waiter. We were not given an opportunity to order any more drinks and no explanation as to where our entrees were. We had to motion the waiter over to ask him when we would get our meals. It seems that he must have forgotten to put the order in, because it took at least twenty minutes after that conversation to get the food. At least three tables in our small section came much later than we did and got their meals before us. Now, mistakes happen in any business and this was a busy Saturday night. The key is in how the mistakes are handled. When people wait 1.5 hour for entrees and have to ask to get them, the manager should be sent over and there should be some kind of compensation, especially when the meals are this expensive. No one even attempted to make this situation right and that is inexcusable. The entrees, by the way, were OK but pretty basic and uninspired. The vegetable medley was overcooked and the rice/potatoes were nothing special. We spent exactly the same amount of money earlier in the week and had a truly exceptional meal at one of Atlantas premier steak restaurants (complete with appetizer, wine, and a complimentary dessert even though the service had been impeccable). What a difference! And, FYI, when the waiter describes the kids meal as having chicken fingers and fries, just be aware that the fries are extra!! They were actually billed separately. That hardly seems fair for a five-year-old that held it together pretty well for two straight hours!

Ive been eating here for over 20 years. The prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. By reasonable I am understanding YOU are not expecting a snapper stuffed with a HUGE about of lump crab meet, vegetables and FRESH French Bread for the price of McDonalds. I actually started a tradition 3 years ago with my neighbor and friend. We go on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day every year. I live quite a bit away from Red Snapper but find time to enjoy it throughout the year. The food is always great and the seafood and surprisingly the steaks are amazing. They did notice that on my last visit theyd had a small price increase. Its been well over 10 years since theyve raised their prices. There are complaints on here about pricing so let me break this down for you. A couple of shrimp cocktails, a couple of Snapper Siam (with the HUGE crab portion on top), two desserts with soft drinks and a couple of glasses of wine WITH A DECENT TIP is under $100. They havent been there for over 40 years by not having good food. Also, There is never a wait of more than 5 minutes. Ive waited over an hour at restaurants on Cheshire Bridge, Red Snapper you are at the table pronto. The only negative is the parking lot is shared with a cab company and parking can be tight.

Decided to try this place after reading the reviews. I agree with most of them. The restaurant is underwhelming from the outside but has a quite cozy and romantic interior. Came here on a Tuesday and the dining room was empty at 6:30 but by 7:30 there were 6 tables, some 4+ people. For apps we tried Crab meat Vidalia with onions and dressing on side as per request. Very light and refreshing with decent chunks of crab. Warm french bread was also served. They have a daily red snapper special (as the name would suggest) but I went with prix fixe Broiled Seafood Platter with a side of steamed veggies. I asked if it can be prepared without butter and they did accommodate. The dish came with a pretty good house salad. I was pleasantly surprised with the food and the service. Overall: parking may get tough as their lot is not that big, full bar with a very extensive martini list, great service, and a cozy romantic atmosphere. Definitely worth a try! Do not judge a book by its cover.

Red Snapper delivers extraordinarily flavorful food in a quaint, relaxed environment. My wife and I dined here for a Valentines weekend dinner and it was excellent! Every course was outstanding and the timing of the meal was impeccable. We started with the soft shell crab. This could have been an entree as it also had curry pasta with it. We were literally using the crab to soak up all of the curry sauce. We also had a hearts of palm salad with balsamic vinaigrette, which was a great taste after the crab. Of course for entrées we had snapper (blackened with shrimp and ginger with shrimp). Both dishes were cooked to perfection! The pinot grigio was an excellent drink pairing with our dishes. We finished the night with the Apple Normandy. We had all of this in just over an hour! We will be back both as a couple and with family!

I looked up this place and saw many good reviews about the food. So I took a chance and took my husband here for his birthday. It was so worth it! We order the Crabmeat en Coquille. It was delicious! Creamy, crunchy and savory! For entrees we ordered the stuffed flounder which was good. But the Snapper Yvonne was fantastic! Order potatoes with this meal! The tender, buttered flavored carbs are to die for! At my request, they added the happy birthday candle to the creamy key lime pie I pre- ordered for my husband. The servers were very attentive and helpful! I would definitely recommend this place for dinner. Dont let the exterior turn you away. It is worth the visit. You will go back for more!

We have been dining here for the last 20 years. The last two times the food has been terrible - at best! They have lowed their standards and are now using lower quality fish. I had to send my first order back because it was not cooked correctly. The second order was intolerable - strong fish order and the majority of the fish was gray rather that white as red snapper should be. When I approcahed that manager I was told that they are using lower quality cut of the fish and also using the stomach area rather that the filet. Sad.................another great place has cut corners and lost loyal customers. Too many other good places in Buckhead!
