Out of Many, Few Stand Out.. I dont know why its taken so long for me to write a review of Haru Ichiban. Maybe its because its been our favorite restaurant for over 10 years... and Im not sure how to express my fondness for the food and the people who work there. After so much time they feel like family, and I know its impossible to be objective about the treatment we receive or even the cuts of fish we get. After all these years, the same servers and the same itamaes are giving us the best they have. So, I guess Ill just say this: Ive been to a lot of Japanese restaurants over the years, Ive eaten an obscene amount of sushi and udon from West Palm to New York City... everything from traditional buffet style to $150+ per plate meals. This place, this humble Japanese diner, stuck out in a generic strip mall flanked by laser-tag and a postal outlet, is still in my top three Japanese restaurants, anywhere. The service is pretty good when youre "new". After youve been going there for a while and build a mutual respect, the service is nothing short of outstanding. For example: a several years back, Japanfest had just closed up for the day and there was line 30 people deep to the door of Ichiban and the dining room was full. They MADE a place setting so that we could eat without waiting. You dont just get that kind of service by walking in and ordering a California roll once or twice. Come to think of it, this place reminds me of the old family diners in NJ. Once you become a regular, what you get, and what the "guy off the street" gets are not quite the same.

Oh I cant say enough great things about this place! Haru Ichiban is the BEST sushi joint Ive had the pleasure of eating at - and Ive had a LOT of sushi in my time. So lets break it down... The restaurant is in an unassuming brick exterior strip outlet - nothing to look at, and easily looked over, but dont be fooled! Upon entering, the decor is quaint, and the place is much larger than it looks with a variety of seating styles! Both times Ive been 3 sushi chefs are behind the counter....which should tell you something, because during popular hours people cram right out the door waiting for an empty table! The wait staff are super friendly and informative. They dont make you feel stupid for asking questions, and even though there may be people waiting for a table, the staff do not rush you. Prompt service too. Prices are right on par with most sushi joints......but here at Haru Ichiban you will get larger rolls, fresher ingredients, and more protein. If youre not convinced yet..... Now to the great part..... If youre going to eat raw fish or try sushi for the first time, then Haru Ichiban is the place to go. No joke now, this is not just an expression...the tuna DOES actually melt in your mouth. The chefs are artists. The rolls are HUGE, and the protein is a plenty. No skimping here! Pictured are the Rollarcoaster Roll, the Sunset Roll, the Shrimp Dynamite Roll, and the Bagel Roll. Try Haru Ichiban out. I promise you wont be disappointed!!

I usually love this place but the food was really off my last visit. I got the Chirashi Don Supreme and the fish tasted so fishy. You know, like when its not fresh. Another thing I noted is that I could tell the fatty tuna was frozen. I get it, you cant have the freshest stuff in Georgia but that unfresh fishy taste ... I cant get over it. The sushi rice was overly salty. And to round it off the service was terrible. The waiter hardly came to our table after appetizers. I guess Ill stick to Shoya for my midgrade Japanese food. Very disappointing to pay $38.00 for one dish and have it suck. I wonder if they have new chefs/cooks or something. Oh well, wont be going back.

The food here was not the best, but okay. I cant say for their other dishes, however the ramen is only okay. The fish was good I would rate it a 4. Cozy atmosphere, very decent place to grab some grub, but for other occasions such as dates, I would suggest another place, as the food is decent but not special. The tonkatsu special ramen has many sides but the balance is off, the pickled ginger overpowered the dish and leaves a dissatisfied impression, would only rate this specific ramen as a 3.25. The fish on the other hand is evenly salted and is pretty good. Hope this review helps

I come here alone often to indulge myself with their tasty such rolls. This is one of my favorite sushi places. They are friendly and attentive here. I typically order my go to California Roll which you can get in regular style or crispy. The super dragon roll is also very good too. There are a few other selections that are worth trying as well. I usually only order sushi when I come but I did order the salmon entree with the soy butter once and it was not anything to be desired.

When I worked at the Toyota factory in Huntsville, the Japanese coordinators would take a trip to Duluth once a month to shop for groceries from Japan - AND to eat at Haru Ichiban. That is really all you need to know to figure out how legit this place is. Everything is amazing, but one piece of advice is that the dinner menu is much larger than the lunch menu so go for dinner if you want the full selection.

This place is almost HORRIBLE the main dining area is so crowded.the service was so bad, waiter barely come by, sashimi were not fresh, and werent fully thawed with a lot of ice and water in them. Wont ever come again. Another tip for choosing a Japanese restaurant is that authentic restaurant ONLY opens after 5pm and till post-midnight , absolutely NO LUNCH, this is how restaurants operates in Japan.

Great service and good food. I got there right at opening, so I was seated right away. The waitress and other employees are very nice and attentive. They also great at recommending items. I have Tonkotsu and it was very, very filling. I wish the broth had more flavor but that might be how this dish is , since im new to Ramen I dont know any better. I will however be back to try some other items.

This is our favorite place for sushi. They have the best sushi menu in Atlanta. The fish is always fresh and service is always great. My wife loves the avocado dome salad with salmon. We have not been disappointed with this menu ever. We try a different roll every time we come in and are just amazed at how good they are. Try Haru Ichiban you will not be disappointed.

Customer service was fine in the beginning, but gradually the waitress stop coming by to check on my friend and me. Place is a bit hard to find from the road. I didnt enjoy my food here as much as I would like. The menu had a big selection of food. Some appetizers did not make sense to me such as the ribeye that was listed. Steak as an appetizer? Thats a first.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant, and I come here with my family often. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff is fantastic. The staff has very low turnover, and we feel as though we are dining around old friends whenever we go. The sushi and sashimi are also the freshest I have had, on par with that caught fresh in Hawaii. Highly recommended.
