AMAZING!!! It is extremely difficult to start up a new restaurant in an old well established place. I know of few restaurants who succeed. However these guys did it! My partner and I have traveled to Buckhead several times a year for over 5 years. The original restaurant was an old time favorite we frequent both in Atlanta and Paris. It was one of my favorite places to eat. So trust, I did not expect anything special. I was heart broken and missed the old...but only until I walked through the doors of Southern Art for the first time. While the atmosphere was nice and entirely different, some how it fit. They had the most amazing Ham Bar. I had never heard of it, and it is a "definite MUST HAVE" for any diner who wishes to experience something wonderful and new. My parents are from Savannah, Georgia. I grew up eating southern folk all my life. However my greens, (my man and I) consider the best. I had to admit, the greens were great! Not as good as mine, but an awesome second. There were three of us at the table. Every item we ordered was perfect and amazing in taste. I even tried the grits which is huge for me. I am a picky eater, dine out often, and consider myself a good judge of both food presentation and taste. We were greeted Kurt, our favorite waiter from the old place, and it felt like sitting down to my moms cooking. Southern Art is definitely a winner. We will come back each and every time we are in Atlanta.

Best bourbon selection in town, and some pretty tasty southern vittles too! Dont be put off by the fact that this restaurant is in the snazzy Interncontinental Hotel in Buckhead. Its not your typical snooty overpriced hotel food. This is good southern eats. Start with the Ham Bar. Yeah, you heard me, Ham Bar. Like a salad bar, except with ham. Try a nice selection of different stacks of smoked hog meat. Try not to fill up though as youre also going to get a nice southern dish as main course. I tried the fried chicken, which is my benchmark for any other southern food restaurant. The chicken was as good as any in town. It had a very tasty batter, moist on the inside, but not greasy. Id have it again. It was served on a spoonful of mashed taters along with some skinny green beans. Ok, the veggie sides were likely concocted by a yankee, but that was some good chicken. Then theres the bar. Youll get a tablet with the current selections, but in addition to some creative cocktails they have a wonderful selection of small batch bourbons. Cant decide on one to try, they even have a bourbon flight. What else do you need to know? Parking! Valet it or theres self park in the basement of the hotel. Take your ticket with you into the restaurant, theyll validate it and youll save yourself $9-12. Just give it to the waiter when the check comes.

Wanna be upscale restaurant. Service was horrible, was first at the bar, took 15-20 mins to get a bottled beer. Went to the table and ordered a beer, which again took another 20 mins to get. The section we were in had NO artwork on display...this is an "art" bar right? No ambient music either. Menu had little to choose from and was WAY over priced for what you get. My 2 sides were portioned so small it was ridiculous, 2 bites of each side and they were gone, no joke. I got the fried chicken because I didnt want the ONLY steak option that went for $38. Fried chicken was still $22 and I get better tasting fried chicken from Publix. Then I check my bank statement the following Monday to see 3 charges, I only made 1 transaction......and they were all for amounts I never agreed to. --It did settle with the right amount, but still...WTH merchant/gateway are they using to allow that? All in all, I would never go back, way to expensive for what you actually get.....the product is not comparable to money you pay for it.....$5 for a bottle of bud light....seriously? I can get a 12 pack for the price of 2 beers there. If you like to waste money go for it, Id rather give my extra cash to the Atlanta Food Bank, at least then I am giving it someone who really needs it

Ive followed Art Smith since he was on Top Chef Masters, so since we were visiting Atlanta and staying at the Intercontinental, visiting Southern Art was a must on the bucket list. The bread plate that was brought out consisted of rosemary cheddar biscuits with honey butter and a small mason jar of homestyle pickled okra, carrots, and pickles. We ordered the side sampler of Mac & cheese... that I think had a hint of walnut oil that made it really over the top tasty, the collard greens and the bourbon yams (which pretty much served as dessert). For our entree choices we decided on 2 of the more popular dishes and tried the Fried chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans, along with the shrimp & grits. Lets just say you wont be mistaking Art Smiths fried chx for your local kfc... in fact I really dont think Ive had better. The shrimp and grits had a smoky andouille sausage flavor with a nice cayenne heat, but the grits were rich and helped balance out the spicyness. Definitely got our fix of southern food for the evening.

A GREAT Chef cant overcome a manager (Alain) who is a THIEF! Food quality and service is actually great but watch your credit cards folks! I know THREE people with different amounts on their credit card bills versus receipts they signed. NO notice to customer, no phone call, no anything. Manager "Alain" literally admits to adjusting and refuses to refund with justifications that they caught things that should have been added. Sounds fishy and I hope next victim of this practice call the police. They are literally leaving people with no way to get reimbursed for the difference between receipt amount and what they decide to hit them with after the poor customer leaves. Sad.

This place is pathetic as far as service is concerned. We were staying at the hotel so decided to go there for breakfast around 10.15am. The host was a total moron (some kid who should not be there in the first place). He tells us the wait would be 15-20 min. We sat and waited. Approx half an hour later he calls other people before us although we were there way before. It was nice of those guests to inform him that we were there before them. The service inside the restaurant was too slow and nothing to be desired. The quality of the food was average. In all, the entire experience was horrendous. Would not recommend this place at all to anyone.

Some friends and I dined here on a Saturday night with a 7:00 reservation. I was excited to try the place out since Id never heard of it, but it was kind of disappointing. The pros - the biscuits they give are delicious, my shrimp and grits were pretty good, they validate your parking if you self park or valet is complimentary. The cons - service is super slow, we were there for about 2.5 hours total, it seems the waiter didnt come by often enough and food takes awhile; the food is pricey - my shrimp and grits was not that big of a portion but it was almost $30, they had an appetizer size for half the price but that probably was cups worth.
