I am very upset to post this. I having been coming to VIP for over 3 years. I suggest it to all my friends and people from out of town asking for good Mexican food. Ive even overheard other people talking to friends about where to go and politely suggest VIP. The wait is ridiculously long, but its small and has food food So why do they get one star? Actually, it would be 0, but had to put one to leave a review. My last two experiences were unbelievably rude. The first "incident" was a Saturday date night. Note of the once every other week we get to go out we come to VIP 7 out of 10. We wait sometimes 30 minutes to an hour. They have an outside bar and chairs where we get a drink while we wait. There is a bartender there (almost always the same one on Saturday. Short, balding with a beard and a BIG ATTITUDE for a little man. My husband stood in line for about 15 minutes ... Note we come so often he already knows what we drink. My husband gets beer and I get a mixed drink with lemon flavored rum. When my husband brought me my drink it tasted like coconut. Rather than just jump to the side of bar and interrupt, I politely waited another 10 minutes in line. When I got up there I jokingly said I thought you knew by now I lemon flavored rum this coconut. He looked at me and said (not so politely), it is lemon. I poured it so I know. I was a little caught off guard and said taste it with a straw or even smell it. He grabbed it out of my hands, turned and threw it in the sink and huffed off. He then brought me another drink and said "we" were both wrong it was banana (No apology). I said no problem and even tipped him again. Personally, I dont think "we" were wrong as he made the drink. I was guessing what flavor it was. The people behind me looked at me and said what was that? Needless to say I was embarrassed because I was just telling them how great the place and employees are. I didnt complain (I should have) to management because everyone has off days. Fast forward to the next week (this past Friday). I had been at Glory Days on 4th for happy hour. The friend I was with wanted Mexican and a good margarita. I spent $20 to Uber there (knowing it would be $20 back) because we would have a couple of drinks. I went to the outside bar and Saturday night bartender wasnt there. Got a drink waited for table and sat down. Waited came out who happened to be Saturday night outside bartender. He asked what we wanted and I said jokingly and tapped him on the arm my normal. We were still.looking at menu. He then said Ill be back with you when you are ready to order. He came back out and we ordered and when I asked for for my drink he said you can drink water. I asked why and he said you hit me and Im not bringing you a drink. I went inside and they said I was not being served anything else. Yes, a bar has a right not to serve anyone for any reason. This guy was a completely jerk and then the manager was too. He said he had to look at the videos. When I called him today. He said he looked and had a talk with his employee about the 2 incidents. I asked exactly what did you "discuss" as to what his employee did wrong and was inappropriate? He told me that was none of my business. He said the next time you come in I will make sure you get the best service. Ummm, what???? Isnt that what you should always be giving? So my recommendation is dont go there. Apparently, good service isnt on the menu unless you ask for it.

I didnt mind the 1hr wait that they said was only going to be 30min, I even didnt mind that they made is switch tables, after we had already sat down and ordered, to accommodate a bigger crowd (the Manager gave us drink chips.. im assuming because ialready looked pissed about the wait.) I didnt even mind the funky smell inside when we first walked in ( should have been a warning) so we sat outside i ordered the grilled skirt steak meal and my niece ordered the enchiladas... Now the FOOD WAS AWFUL :-( i was truly disappointed that people thought that this was what mexican food tasted like... we knew the steak and the enchiladas were going to be spicy (in the heat and the spices) but the yellow rice and the refried beans are suppose to be a nice contrast the meats not be over spiced to the core and burn the only taste buds you have left... you could put a warning in the menu that all your food has cumin and black pepper like its going out of style.. all in all the worst experience i have ever had.. p.s. just cuz u made the rice in the morning and serve it at 9.p.m it is no longer considered fresh.. ( I was so unsatisfied that i went to another mexican restaurant today called El Huarache Veloz in st. Pete, where the food was legit the business and the mexicans are not only in the kitchen but as customers enjoying their food.

My wife and I were on vacation and decided to go there. We ordered a margarita and it was horrific but we really wanted Mexican food. They brought out chips and salsa and we wanted to start off with appetizers. We ordered the fundido chorizo dip and it was worse than the margarita. The chest tasted powdery. At that point we didnt wanna try anything else so I asked for the check. So the waitress took my cad thats usually folded in the card holder thing and was taking a look good time to come back. So after a while a finally asked the bartender, where is the waitress that took our check because she never brought my credit card back Thats when I was told there was no card in the holder and the manager was in the back reviewing the tape to see if anyone had the card.Well, come to find out, when the waitress picked up the holder,my card fell on the floor.I understand mistakes can happen but I should have been told something before having to ask them where the hell is my card.Honestly,I cant review the food because the appetizers and drinks were so bad we didnt order but all was not bad, they did have free chips and salsa and the salt around the rim was great.I would not recommend this place or the AGAVE MEXICAN RESTAURANT,keep searching, trust me.

We heard this place was the best Mexican in treasure island boy were they wrong. Me and my boy friend was there with our children on vacation and decided to visit VIP, I must add that we are an interracial couple it was total of 10 of us. however we were told to wait 20 min after 2 min passed were then told another 30min and to come back at 9:15 we came back on time and the server stated that she was just about to give the table away.... awful. then we sat and ordered our food. the server never came back and refilled the drinks or ask the adults did we want another drink.. we then we received our food after 20 min only to get a plate of chips with melted shredded cheese dry chicken no queso! the food was the worst food and one our our children order was never put in so he had to wait another 20 min....I then requested the manager to complain, he stood there and with a bad attitude, and said what do you want me to do? Really dude the server brought the check back I gave the credit card to my daughter because I was so upset we just wanted to leave she told my daughter really no tip dont ever come back her ! WOW
