This review does not comment on the food since I have not eaten at this establishment. I tried to reserve a table on the internet (which takes bookings 30 days out) and failed other than the 10:30 or 11PM slots and I tried to do this at different times of the day over a period of three weeks. I therefore judge their reservation system as too "elitist" since failing to book on your own the restaurant promotes signing up to a reservation booking system which "charges a fee" if they obtain a reservation for you. I can only wonder if this allows the restaurant to create another profit center by arrangement with the booking agent? Given so many restaurant choices in NYC this seems to me an absurd way to do business especially if they have limited seating and the establishment is that good at what they do. Even RAOs would not stoop this low and I have eaten at RAOs in NYC! In my opinion, the cache now surrounding this restaurant will never meet the actual quality. While I suspect the quality is very high; I also discern from the accolades the restaurant has been getting there are few serious reviews of the specifics of the food being consumed. I am sorry to say that many people want to like the food when they either work so hard to get a reservation, or pay too much for what they are getting or want to share the same opinion as their friends in order to be part of the group. Saying something is good is not telling you WHY its good! I sincerely hope you folks that are lucky enough to get a reasonable time reservation get the experience your time and money are worth.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place & so happy that the Chicago restaurant group came over to NYC and opened up this place. Ive been to their restaurants in Chicago - Au Cheval & Bavettes - both amazingly delicious. The Au Cheval burger is to die for and I miss it all the time...and now they have it at 4 Charles Prime! Reservations are hard to snag, the restaurant is pretty small so make sure you reserve early! Also, perfect place for a date! Dark/woody interior & great drinks. MUST GET: - prime rib sandwich - its off the menu and they have limited # per day. Its kind of like a MUCH better philly cheesesteak, if I could get this for lunch everyday I would. - prime rib...its what theyre famous for...I would recommend getting the English cut since I prefer them thinly sliced and tender almost melt in your mouth! However, most people get their Chicago cut - thats way too much meat for me and super thick so be ready if you order it! - burger with egg & bacon - this is their famous burger from Au Cheval. SUPER juicy and delicious. - Elote style corn - perfect side with a prime rib! - Fries with garlic aioli (how can you say no to garlic aioli!) DONT GET: nothing...everythings really good!

Wow. Simple incredible. The burger is basically an Au cheval clone (no surprise) and thats a good thing. Very good thing. They were out of prime rib, but the awesome waiter recommended the filet mignon. I was skeptical, as I was leaning towards the ribeye and I prefer lots of marbling, but man, this might have been the very best steak Ive ever had. Period. And I eat steak often enough at the big spots in Chicago, NYC, etc.

We had the pleasure of having dinner at 4 Charles Prime Rib on 6/20/17. The staff were very attentive and the meal was delicious. The Dover Sole with a caper sauce and aged Ribeye were cooked to perfection. The English Cut Prime Rib was tender and flavorful. The buttery mash potatoes, button mushrooms, and asparagus were wonderful sides. Have not been disappointed with Hogsalts restaurants!

As a former Chicagoan was pleased to learn 4 Charles had finally opened. Cozy environment that enables you to actually talk and hear your friends. Great cocktails, classic Sodikoff grub thats not astronomically priced. Wait times vary depending on when you go so be warned. This should hold me over until Au Cheval NYC...

If you can get a reservation, go! I ordered the French Dip, a special at the time. It was exceptional, best French dip I have ever had. The rest of the group got the burgers, I had a few bites, top notch Burger!!!. We had a hilarious waiter, cant remember his name, bald with a beard and glasses. And the bacon........

The burger, fries, and chocolate cake are a sure fire way to leave fat and happy. Ive been back multiple times. Reservations are a must. Dont just show up, youll be disappointed when they turn you away. Im sure the prime rib is great, but... the burger. So good!

Such a cool little spot. Tiny restaurant, probably 10 tables / booths. Speakeasy vibe. Tremendous burger and salad and sides were great too. Chicken was not so good, wouldnt recommend. Dessert and cocktails were expensive but worth it.

just a phenomenal place from the food to the service. The burger is just as good if not better the Au Chaval. The Prime Rib was the standout and you must get the creamed spinach. I can not wait to go back
