Went to the restaurant on a sunday afternoon expecting something similar to the Rojo of old in Fountain walk. COMPLETELY different experience that in previous years. When we walked in, the place was empty (understandable since its a sunday afternoon) and the hostess acted like we were causing her an inconvenience by telling her we were a group of 6. She asked for a minute, I assume to go put two tables together. Upon returning, she led us to a dirty table with crumbs and wet glass rings on the table from previous customers. She noticed the crumbs and tried to brush them on the floor with her hand. When my wife asked to have the table properly cleaned, she slammed the menus down and brought back a red napkin (used to fold the silverware in) with water on it. No joke. Not even bleach water. Our server was decent and semi-attentive but considering there were zero other customers, i would have expected better. The food was OK but semi-warm at best, as if 6 customers put a strain on the kitchen. My friend ordered fajitas on one of those cast iron plates....it wasnt steaming or sizzling. Like i said, its as if it was sitting under the hotlamp while the other 5 dishes were being prepared. The restaurant appears to be an old irish pub thats been redecorated....the dark wood, slate floors, and stained glass all give off a bar like atmosphere...much different the high end feel of the previous Rojo. Wont be going back. There are far better mexican restaurants in Livonia that are worth the drive.

Im an Arizona transplant and we I MISS good Mex, which is so hard to find in MI. We went to Rojos when it first opened and thought it had potential. Nice setting, friendly staff, just-okay food, but they were just getting started. A half-year later I gave them a second chance and found that they were STILL just getting started. Today they had their last chance. What did I find? A nice server, but otherwise an awful dining experience. The place is not well-kept, and the staff and the environs do not give an impression of cleanliness. Those black uniforms dont hide the funk, guys. And salsa belongs on chips, not menus or fresh flatware. The roasted pepper soup continues to be a delightful starter, probably the best thing on the menu. But the salsa is like ketchup, the grilled chicken is shoe leather, the chips are cold, and the refritos look like something my cat horked up. I agree with the reviewer who wrote awhile back that your best bet in Novi is Border Cantina. Its not great, but its okay, its clean, and it doesnt pretend to be something its not--just unassuming, hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex. Rojo had their last chance with me today. Its a damn shame.

My wife and I went into Rojo Mexican Bistro in Novi after braving the Saturday evening shopping horde at the mall. After work and then christmas shopping we were exhausted and starving. When we entered we were told that it was a 30 to 45 minute wait and were about to turn around when the host mentioned that we could sit in the bar and enjoy a drink while we wait and they would come and get us. We were immediately served by very friendly and energetic bar staff. One bartender was eager to share his favorite dishes and drinks with patrons and all in all it was a festive atmosphere. When they called our name and sat us at a booth we were welcomed by Brandon. Brandon was awesome from the get go. We wanted to relax and enjoy our meal and he was not pushy about getting our order taken immediately, but let us enjoy our salsa and chips, our appetizer, and our drinks. My wife and I both thought our food was delicious and that our server Brandon insured we got our food in a timely manner. I have been to other Rojo restaurants that can not compare to the service and atmosphere we experienced at the one here in Novi. Great job Rojo, we will be back.

I feel bad saying this but sometimes the truth has to be told, Taco Bell has more flavor then the food we ate here. We orderd the shrimp fajitas, burrito bowl and 2 kids meals. Given this is a small sample size but you only get one first impression. Mexican foods are to have lots of flavors to them yet the dishes we experienced were bland. Also the burrito bowl was upgraded to include shrimp we got 2 pieces of shrimp. The waitress we had did not help our experience. Mind you we did not complain about the food to her, we just ate what we had and left. However, never did she come back to offer us refills or more drinks. We had no silverware after 2 minutes waiting to see her again I went to the hostess stand and grabbed it myself. We also asked for more tortilla wraps for the fajitas, the next time she came back to our table she did not provide us any instead she gave us the bill. For the price paid we felt our money would have been better spent somewhere else. On the Boarder, Mexican Fiesta, Qdoba Mexican Grill or yes even Taco Bell.

The tequila menu is very extensive. Plus the bartenders and servers have knowledge on the various types of tequila if you are interested in trying something new. To start the chips and salsa is served on the house. The chips are ok but the salsa is very flavorful. By far one of the biggest reasons to go here though is for the Tableside Guacamole, very fresh and delicious. However, I would not order the Queso Fundido again. Just to plain for my taste. The Rojo Chicken Tortilla Soup is amazing and a must try. The Taco Salad is full of flavor as well and you receive a huge portion for the price. My favorite entrée to get here is the Camarones Ala Diabla (spicy shrimp). This dish is very flavorful and has a nice heat. Some other entrees that were good but did not compete with the Camarones Ala Diabla are Camarones Rellenos and Enchiladas Verdes. Will definitely go back!

Our waitress was competent, and the guacamole she made tableside (?) was the best dish of our meal. The "salsa" was more a pommodoro sugho, which is not fusion, rather just completely inappropriate. Other waiters had dirty aprons and pants, the menus were dirty, and the place smelled faintly of stale mop water (alarmingly, because its mostly carpeted). They have no idea how to make an enchilada (rolled with a strip of dry chicken, add Velveeta and *urp* diced potatoes, and put on the griddle ) and the refries tasted straight-out-of-the-can. Im not overly picky, but I wont be back. Andiamos should be ashamed.

Billed as gluten-friendly, the waiter was very unattentive, almost walked away in the middle of the food order. Despite other reviews, the silverware was clean, however the salsa and chips were bland, the hot sauces were all hot and vinegar. The food tasted fine, but was a mix of most basic Mexican foods or odd fusions (scallop taco with swiss chard? What?) Prices way too high - I had three tacos with marianted pork (Pastor Tacos), shell was about 4 inches in diameterwith a side of undercooked rice and bland beans. $9.99. Go somewhere else. Gluten-sensistive folks can order a burfer sans bun anywhere.
