The freshest sushi I have ever had, period! I am a sushi fan and I have it once a week minimum--for decades at this point, so I think Im a bit of a connoisseur, though not a snob. I sincerely cannot fathom how this place can get one star reviews. The only way is perhaps from folk coming during their $1 per piece happy hour. Obviously, quality, quantities and service arent excellent then, but in the years Ive been a regular customer I have never experienced what nayers here describe--not even close. The food could not be fresher or better tasting. Perhaps the thumbs down reviews come from traditionalists. Does entering this place transport you to Japan? No. The décor is minimalist and there is barely any attempt to give the place a Japanese feeling. The service is very friendly and efficient. This place is all about the food and nothing else. Zero pretensions, which are reflected in very affordable prices, particularly for sushi, and especially given its quality.

We tried Yosaku recently and came away happy and full! We did try a whole bunch of sushi and also Ramen and dumplings. The chicken dumpling (fried) was good and served on a bed of the dumpling sauce. The final dumpling did get too soggy for my liking since I was sitting on it for too long. The miso soup was quite good and so was the green tea. We had the Shoyu Ramen with chicken that was quite good. The broth was excellent and flavorful. Sushi was good too - we tried the Sushi and Sashimi combo and also some eel and yellow tail sushi. Fish was fresh and sushi was well made. The place was quite busy for a weekday lunch meal and the service may have suffered a bit because of that. Will be back here for sure.

Without Yosaku, DC would be a lesser place. My family and everyone weve invited there have raved about this place. It never disappoints and the staff and owner/manager are authentically warm and attentive. This is our go-to place for any occasion. Although the main restaurant area is pretty much a design-free zone, you could try the upstairs room when it is open. It has a cozy Traditional Japanese aura with traditional tables. We still miss the now retired Japanese waitress who used to work that room with perfect Japanese style, composure and Zen-like grace.

Had dinner here twice and was very satisfied with their food and service both times. happy hour can be quite crowded so try to come early or make reservations. Their happy hour $1 sushis were much smaller than I expected but were quite delicious (I mostly ordered the salmon). The 3-way dinners are generous and paired with the extra dry Otokoyama sake was just what I needed to end my work week.

For variety I chose to try this instead of Murasaki down the street, where Ive had very good sushi dinners before. Bad decision. This was very mediocre sushi -- not bad, but even the $1 a piece happy hour special couldnt make me happy with ho-hum, not very flavorful fish. I wont be back.

$1 a la cart pieces for happy hour?! Sounds great! Enjoyed my Shrimp tempura roll and our waiter was really nice. We also had the plum wine was was so sweet and delicious. The manager rushed us out at the end even with plenty of tables still available.

Great Sushi/sashimi. The rice is on point, great range of seafood and a wide menu. The seaweed salad is far above anyone else in DC. Not the fanciest looking place, but definitely top 5 Japanese places in DC

Delicious food, super nice waitress. A little pricey, but worth it. Sushi was made to order and delicious, while a little awkward to eat (some rolls were HUGE). Ramen was yummy too.

This place has great sushi! Reasonably priced, a little on the slower side. Good selection of sushi. If you dont like sushi, they have other items too! Youll enjoy this place.

Surprisingly good Japanese food in a very cramped restaurant. Sushi is good as well as other dishes. Happy hour extends late offered reduced price drinks, sushi, and small plates.

Sushi happy hour 5-7pm on weekdays offers $1 for selected 1pc sushi. The happy hour has a good selection, I especially like unagi, salmon and yellowtail ones

Food is mediocre. Service is absolutely poor. The only time I saw the waiter was when ordering food and paying for dinner. Do not eat here period.

Stop by any day for happy hour, 5 - 7:30p, grab a seat outside, order your fill of fresh sushi, and enjoy people-watching on Wisconsin Ave NW.

Razor thin sushi and sashimi served here is not worth the effort. Grocery store sushi exceeds the value of product served at this restaurant.

This is like going to dinner at your favorites Japanese aunts home; perfect food with top of the line ingredients and friendly service.

Atmosphere is nice at Yosaku. The reason why I gave it a 3 star is mostly because both the food and service were average.
