Discrimination, I wanted this to be the very first word for this review. I gave this restaurant a second shot today. Let me start off with my FIRST experience. Two days ago my GM and I were close to "Yamas Sushi". Around lunch time , we decided that we were in the mood for sushi. Yamas restaurant was near by and we entered the establishment. As soon as we entered, we automatically; saw a difference between us and the other guests. The other guest were received with a warm welcoming. Us on the other hand were just ordered to sit down and before we could sit down. Our server in quotes suggested "theres a Chinese place right next door." "Are you sure you want to eat here?" She also kept insisting that we were in the wrong place by stating "This is an all Japanese cuisine." We were really uncomfortable but didnt pay much mind and ordered our food. After we had ordered everything was pretty much tense. With the sushi staff looking at us and the server really not doing her job. We left and we still tipped the server because thats her job. Although she didnt do , not even near a good job. We still left a tip for attending us. Im not finished here this is only our FIRST experience. Today at around 2pm we decided that the plaza was closest to us. With an optimistic, positive view of things, decided to give it one last shot. However we were very wrong. We were treated the same way and even worse. At the end of our meal and after we had finished and payed (not to mention the tip we left). I went to the bathroom to wash my hands but before that. I was walking towards the bathroom and from a distance, I caught an older gentlemen, giving me a very dirty look. After I used the bathroom, to my surprise I see my GM and the same individual at the front entrance. As soon as I walk towards the door the person with my GM told me that I could not eat in his restaurant because WE looked "DIRTY." To my surprise it was the manager on duty. His name is BOB. Bob then told my GM that we looked very filthy and that he pointed out that he did not have a dress code policy for his establishment but we could not eat inside looking like BUMS. Not only did he make those very rude and unnecessary comments but he took his hand and touched me wanting to escort me out his sushi bar. Heres the catch, I had just bought brand new pants a day prior AND I had a brand new shirt and sweater on. Thats what bothers me the most I was in clean clothes and in brand new ones as well. I believe I was descrimated today simply because I am latino. I do not suggest anyone of color to walk into the establishment because IT WILL BE a VERY AWFUL, UNFORGETTABLE experience. I have been living in NOVA all of my life and never have felt so disgusted and disrespected ever in my life. I am also a former Applbees server and host. I have a pretty good understanding in food business. Never in my life would I ever treat a guest the way that I was treated today. Not because of there clothes and wouldnt even bother to look at their skin color. I just want to end this review but letting the public know. If you want to walk inside a sushi bar, have horrible customer service AND be discriminated all at once. Yamas sushi is the place to go, now Im saying this in all seriousness. Only because I LIVED IT TWICE. Google needs a -5 star option because this an experience that I will never forget in my life.

Came here for sukiyaki...very disappointed. Waiters and waitresses did not serve the raw egg until I asked for it. Sukiyaki itself was also not as authentic as expected. Beef slices werent soft enough, too many noodles, and the soy taste itself was bad. It seemed more like the Korean bulgogi than sukiyaki. Sushi wasnt as good as the reviews described. Rice was too hard, sushis were fresh but did not have refreshing tastes, and rice seemed to be "glued" to the sushis... Service was not good and extremely slow. Chiefs and workers yelled across the restaurant, which made even louder noises than customers themselves... Would not recommend to anyone whos looking for authentic "Japanese" restaurants (this is run by Koreans).

I have never felt discriminated from another Korean in years. Service was terrible and so was the attitude. We first arrive and we stood there waiting to be seated for a while. The person I was with wasnt Korean and I can hear the conversations; they were talking trash. Not cool. As soon as we walked in, we were already being scanned and being profiled by the people that work there. It was very noticeable that the owner was paying attention to his non Asian customers also. Will not recommend and will not be returning! I swear the staff and the owner has that typical Korean attitude. Spend your money else where.

In the past 5 years I have been eating sushi 3 times a month and tried so many restaurants. Today I gave a shot to this place recommended by a friend and ordered 2 spicy salmon roll and 1 spicy tuna roll. Sushi was salty and made me thirsty like a desert. The ginger and the wasabi was not enough at all for the portion we ordered which we were trying to tell to our server who never came by after brought our food. Then we just ended up walking up to them and asked for it. Nothing reminded me of a japanese sushi place other then the chopsticks. Price is really fair in case you havent ate straight salt for a long time.

Been eating here for over 14 years and in few words, food is exceptionally fresh, service is solid (I always and still do think ot could be better) and prices excellent for what you get for your $$! It is not high end, but you wont be disappointed! I wish economy is not as bad as it is and the portions would still be as they were until some years ago and top quality fish wouldnt be subsidized with artificial crab meat as now is in some creations they serve (likely their way to stay afloat, not raise prices or close doors)...I highly recommend the place regardless and am regular returnee :)

If you, like me are a sushi lover, you have to try Yama Sushi, if you still havent. The wide variety of delicious fresh sushi here is out of this world, while the restaurant is a very small cozy place and always packed, you are guaranteed to have great service and the best sushi in town. Prices are very low compared to bigger sushi places in the area, this is a family owned business and keeps the family environment, I assure you, theres nothing like it!!!
