Food was good but it seems like once Prince leaves u get different food. Honestly I got one order and the food was great meat was tender, I thought it was so good that I ordered another of the same thing. Prince had to leave for some reason. Whoever is plating or cooking the food when Prince is not there sucks, my second order had tough meat and instead of extra spinach he gave me bullshit ass salad. Bartender was cool but wont be going back. Summahs is better, at least the cooks there understand what extra Means and dont bullshit you. The food was night and day between the boss and the terrible cook in his place. My advice is, if Prince/ the boss is there u will get good food if he isnt and the other cook is there then ur getting garbage and dont bother

I visited D.C. for the weekend and wanted African food. I saw an article recommending this place so I decided to give it a try. Its small and unassuming but most African restaurants are. The decor is actually quite nice and there is a large screen TV playing music videos. It took my friend and I an hour to get our food. This may be because half of the tables in the place were all seated at the same time. The waitress was nice and service was good but the kitchen was slow. I enjoyed the wine I ordered. The palmnut soup wasnt as flavorful as what Im used to. I asked for some shitto (pepper sauce) to spice it up but the shitto wasnt at all spicy. I wasnt very impressed but I would try this place again.

Did a search for "African food near me" while at work and this was one of the restaurants that came up. Put it in the GPS and went there. Ordered the Spinach Stew with chicken and fufu to go. Sat down to just taste it before I left to go back to work. Needless to say, not only did I "taste" it, I continued eating until it was almost gone. It was delicious! Loved the way the owner made it a "family affair" with the daughter wiping the tables and the son taking my order. They even brought me ice water without me even asking once they saw I stayed instead of taking out. Food was great, service was great. Cant wait to go back!

Everything about this restaurant is wrong. The whole atmosphere screamed disorganization. The service was the worst Ive ever received in my entire life. We waited over an hour for our food just to receive it cold with dry meat. The waitress had a nasty attitude the entire night. The plantains were unevenly cooked and a soggy mess and the jollof was definitely not Ghanaian jollof. The prices they charged for such poor quality food is outrageous. Overall Id rate it 0/5 but thats not an option so 1/5 will do. Just dont go there. Its a waste of money for poor service and nasty food.

I have gone to this restaurant since it opened the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. Food is made to order so please go in with appropriate expectations of how long you will wait. Everything is fresh, taste delicious, and I have even brought some of my African friends to the spot and they say its authentic and well-made. If youre going for drinks The bartenders are always on point and are willing to mix up something special for you that was surely help you reach your goals.

We came in and ordered appetizers, have been waiting for 30 minutes. A larger group just came in and got their food already. Meanwhile, we are still waiting, going on 45 minutes. Worst customer service. Will not be returning. ETA: We ended up leaving because no food or no explanation of the delay after over an hour of waiting. Regardless of the group that ordered ahead, it still doesnt take over an hour for appetizers. Warning: you risk poor customer service going to this place.

The food and atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for. I am from the US but live in Ghana and love the food and culture that I find there. Appioo was a great touch of Ghana home with warm and friendly staff, and spot on Ghanaian dishes. I would recommend this to anyone, whether you are looking to expand your taste palate, or looking for a reminiscent meal from your home country or time abroad, you will enjoy Appioo.

My new favorite DC spot...everything was dope: the food, service and the environment. I had the vegetable fish and my friend had the egusi soup with goat meat--we cleaned our plates! The server was super cool, too. This is one of those businesses you dont want to see go away so i intend to support whenever i can. Support Black-owned businesses!

I just finished a great meal of Jollof Rice with Chicken - my first taste of Ghanaian cuisine. At the same time the complex mix of flavors in the dish come together perfectly leading me to wonder why more people havent discovered Appioos restaurant yet. The staff are friendly and Im def. going to keep on coming back.

Delicious and reasonably priced Ghanian food...dont be fooled by the humble space. The goat and oxtail were both delicious. As was the pepper soup! My friend, who lived im Ghana for a year said it was the most authentic Ghanian food she had had since coming back to the US!

The place is ok. You dont get the value for your money. A bit disappointed. I ordered jollif and goat meat. When I received it, it was chips of goat. When I inquired with the waitresses she was uncomfortable to respond. Did she really tell the manager? No.

Delicious food! It takes a while to get the food, but the music is nice in the meantime and the drinks are good. I almost always get the egusi and it does not disappoint!

The food here is really good and it has a real family atmosphere...West African fare and a great music. However the place is a bit overpriced compared to other areas

Great nice little place. My only negative is that some of the prices advertised on the menu did not match the bill we received.
