Another 1 of those spots where the quality of food just doesnt hold up to the appearance, ambience that comes along with it... the place is beautiful, love the atmosphere. Theres even a nice good size bar with live music thats set off to the side so as not to interfere with the dining area (which is very comfortable). The menu has some great things to choose from. The presentation of the food was superb! They even had some nice creative drink specials. But once we bit in to our meals, I was surprised... I couldnt believe a place with all the bells and whistles had such average tasting food... We had the farmers egg, calamari, organic chicken and Stonington scallops. Dont get me wrong, it wasnt bad by any means and I will certainly give it another shot considering everything else it has to offer... but for the price Im paying, and for the looks of this place, Id expect much higher quality food.

I went here with a couple of colleagues and a job candidate from Washington DC. We were all really impressed with our food. I had the calamari appetizer and the fettucine entre--both were really special, and Im not that easily impressed. I was very glad the entree was offered as a half plate size, which meant that I had room for an appetizer and dessert. The warm but chic brick setting provided a great atmosphere. Although it was busy and they were having blue grass night in the front room, it was very easy to talk and have a good conversation, and the service was friendly and attentive. One warning: I ordered the espresso bread pudding, which was delicious, but I think the caffeine (I dont drink coffee after four, and should have asked about the amount of real espresso) kept me up that night!

This was the first trip to Firebox for my wife and I, and it will certainly not be our last. The chucarterie of the day was a liver pate that exceeded expectations, and our entrees were perfectly cooked. My wife has digestive restrictions, but had absolutely no reactions to their food even though she was ignoring her diet a bit that night. She had the duck, while I had scallops in a lobster reduction. The service was friendly and responsive. I found that the service was a teeny bit slow, but didnt bother me one bit, as it was a nice dinner and we had plenty of time to chat and enjoy the ambience. The portions were perfect in size - cant wait to go back.

oh mgoodness .... stopped here on our way through the city and couldnt have been happier *o* we went mostly for a smorgasbord of veggies dishes (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale salad, squash, haricots verts) and loved the perfectly tailored flavour of each; as a splurge we went for the bone marrow and parm rinds, both of which were prepared and presented exquisitely but for our tastes were too rich (which to be fair, the waitress had warned us of beforehand) nothing special on the drinks, a few interesting taps and the bartender whipped us up an off-menu cocktail .... but hey, we went for the food and a drinks a drinks a drink !

I am visiting from out of town and a coworker brought me to the Firebox Restaurant for dinner last night, shed been meaning to try it out. We had a wonderful time! The decor is interesting and inviting, the bartender made us some excellent cocktails, and dinner was fantastic. The cauliflower soup was excellent, and the ribeye I had for dinner was, too. For desserts we tried the lemon panna cotta and the chocolate pudding, and were pleased with both. All of the waitstaff were attentive and friendly, especially our fantastic server Chris! I cant wait to come back to Hartford in a few weeks so I can come back!

I came in for a delightful brunch right at the 11 AM opening today, Sunday morning. Enjoyed a nice chat with the friendly hostess and my waitress Ally. Had a mimosa with freshly squeezed orange juice and strawberry french toast with bacon. Both were delivered promptly and were clearly composed of the highest quality ingredients. Little touches like pine nuts and chive scrapings completed the picture. Servers were attentive without being annoying, and helped me find my way as I left. Its a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Definitely recommended.

An extraordinary good restaurant if you love interesting food & drinks. The setting is in a gentrified iron forge, so one is surrounded by open brick and thick wooden beams. The food is farm to table and tastes as it should, like remembering a taste from childhood. The cooking is artisan, in the way different flavors are combined and presented. The service is charming, informed and discrete. There when you need it and gone when you dont. A wonderful place to go before attending Hartfords theatres.

Part of the non-profit Billings-Forge organisation, the Firebox Restaurant serves dishes that focus on locally grown farm products. All our dishes, a poached farm egg as a starter, red rice risotto as well as fluke with couscous for the main course, were creatively composed and well executed (only the fish was slightly overcooked). The decor highlights the unique character of this old brick building and creates an elegant yet cozy atmosphere. In summary: Excellent dinning for a good cause.

In general, the food at Firebox was good, including the calamari, charcuterie, black pearl salmon, and brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts are fried and taste amazing. The smores and apple cobbler were OK. The chocolate cake that came with the smores was dry and bland - we had ordered two and both had the same problem. Service was fast in the beginning, but after we got our appetizers, time kind of slowed down and everything was slow played.

The quality of the food was excellent as usual, though over the years the menu has undergone a transformation from excellent food to a fancy playground for the chef. The "New York Strip" cold be considered false advertising. It should be renamed "Small medallions of beef carefully extricated from a cut of New York Strip". I had planned on enjoying an entire steak, planned my appetizers accordingly, and left dismayed and still hungry.

Its a real shame no one could be bothered to greet me and show me a table. I came here for lunch, waited and waited at the empty hostess stand for someone to tell me anything really. A couple of waiters walked around, a bartender glanced over, and no one said a word. Finally I got tired of being a wallflower and walked right out. Its a beautiful place but with that kind of snobbish attitude you wont be seeing me here again.

Drink tasted weird. Not the best. The organic chicken was literally just a single large breast. Waitress said "its a full chicken deboned". I would have loved to have the rest of it. It was amazing, however if I knew it was a single breast with wing I would have gotten the steak instead. Great food, drinks used to be good but tonight they were not the best. Maybe something changed in the last 9 months.

Sunday brunch at firebox was amazing. Menu was wrong for the soup of the day and was given beet stew instead of the menud item but it tasted quite good. This stores atmosphere was what set the pace though, its a cozy fresh clean resteruant with amazing staff that give great suggestions. Customers who want to spend a little more for sunday brunch, the atmosphere was most certainly worth it!
