Rarely am I disappointed with the Playwrights meals. I ordered a hamburger this time around and it was cooked just the way I wanted and was quite tasty. I always have to get a Guinness here because its the only place that pours them just like in Ireland, not to mention they serve them in an imperial pint glass just like Ireland too. The chicken sandwich is quite good as its my typical go-to; its a nice chicken breast on a crusty roll with a nice serving of avocado on it - very good. I sometimes take half home since theres so much! Great pub food, a very good draft selection with plenty of great craft beers and always good service.

The Playwright is one of our favorite places! We only wish we lived closer. Owned and built by a Limerick man, it is one of the most authentically Irish Pubs we have been to. The menu, while offering some typical American fare, has a nice selection of classic Irish food and even some of the waitstaff call Ireland home. On Sunday afternoons, one can be treated to some live Irish folk music as local musicians gather around one of the tables and play. This place is a must for anyone who is looking for a good fix of Celtic food and music.

I like their potato soup and salad. And I remember last time I gave them 4 stars, but guess what they did today. they over charged me about 15 dollars. 10 dollars for beverage which we never drink and ordered, another 5 dollars for the coffee. when we clarify for this price the woman said coffee is free, we drank refills they charged every single cup of coffee so total of 4 cups. folks please read the paper she brings item - by - item. be cautious, never hurts, by the way I would rather go other place.

Wonderful musicians on Sunday afternoon and nice bar area. Thats it! The signage makes no sense. The area marked closed, was the only area open. The open exit, said do not use this exit. So, it should be no surprise that hot food was served cold. It took 20 minutes for deep fried apps that were room temp. at best. Which means that they were sitting around. And it cost $10 per app! To their credit, they took it off our tab since I refused to it. There was a bus full of elderly tourists there.

The food was very good. Has a nice atmosphere. I stopped in on a Saturday night and there was acoustic band playing. Prices arent to bad for the portions that you get. I arrived at 10:00pm and they were only serving a "snack" menu. It consisted of wings a burger things along those lines. I got a Cesar salad, with the option to have blackened grilled chicken. The salad was $11.00, it cost another $5.00 to add the chicken. I thought that was a little pricey, however it was delicious.

We had guests who were visiting from out of state who wanted to try the full Irish breakfast. We checked three separate times to make sure it was going to be available today, including a call this morning before we left. When we arrived we were told it wasnt being offered. Really glad we bothered to check. That being said, what we had instead was very good.

Four people in my family are vegetarian; I have been one for nearly 35 years. Called to ask if there were vegetarian options, was told there were several. Once there we found out they deemed salmon, cod and the like vegetarian, and told me I was wrong - vegetarians ate fish - when I questioned this. Service was good, place is cute, but not ideal if vegetarian.

I wish I found this place earlier! I go here for IRFU games on tv for free that others would charge a cover for, a very good tap selection with both local brews and the Irish Imports. The breakfast brunch is one of the ONLY places in new haven area to pick up a Full Irish. Looks great and authentic w/ the old pub style. I brought my mom, and she loved it too!

Had to tell waitress bangers were overcooked. She was polite and accomodatng. Brought me 3 more. But....I love their bangers. Didnt taste like what they use to serve. Also, went with Groupon. Knew the coupon was good for dinner and was there for lunch. Willing to order banger dinner and pay dinner price but was told they dont serve dinner menu at lunch!

Love this place. The staff are gems and by themselves make the rating. The food portions are generous. There is a nice selection of local and "stock Irish" beers, though I would like to see some more selection, maybe in the way of more bottled beers. The Irish sessions on Sundays at 4p and Tuesdays at 8p are the best around!!!

Ive heard the Irish get teased about their cooking (or is it the English...?) nevertheless our meals were delicious. Their menu is on their webpage, so you can be prepared for the price of the entrees. All in all, very pleasant, especially if you enjoy having beer with your meal (yes, they also serve wine).

Go for the food, stay for the fun. A little pricey, but the food is delicious. They serve a couple of mean steaks. The beer on tap is fresh and cool and so is the crew. There is live music a few evenings each week.

great local stop with an authentic feel. Prices are good, and drink selection is up to par. My only critique was that they wouldnt take the coupon from my email unless it was printed which kind of annoyed me.

Just awful I paid 4,99 for onion soup to get it cold and a half of a cup the penne alla vodka was dry as ever had no taste and no sauce and the garlic spinach again no taste what a waste of money

Renamed to Wicked Wolf or something, but its essentially the same place. The architecture is great, supposedly made with the wood from a church shipped from Ireland. Upstairs is often quieter.

Service and decor are great. Good selection of spirits and good prices for drinks. Food is "standard issue" but good; look for frequent coupons and promotions to tame the prices a bit.

Very good food and the atmosphere is great, but needs a new person at the helm in the back of the house. Thats to bring new and fresh ideas and guests back to a once great spot.

Great date-night destination. Great atmosphere. Enjoyed the food! Live music could have made it even better, but thats a pretty big request.

Food was good but mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant and not homemade. Still they were ok and the other food was flavorful.

After 10 minutes of sitting on the patio and no one coming to serve us, we left. We sat outside because the inside smelled awful.
