The food is amazing and the Downtown Colorado Springs location was a frequent favorite of ours until our unfortunate experience today. Now if we go back at all it will only be to the other location. Before I explain let me also tell you I used to manage a pizzeria for years as well as worked in the service industry for over 10 years and I now specialize in customer service with a job focus on customer retention. Delivering good customer service is not difficult and if you fail it is your job to make it right. We went in right about the normal lunch rush today and ordered two pizza’s. Service was as expected at the counter and then when we received our drinks. However while we usually receive our food within 5-10 minutes today we waited more than 20 before questioning them. Pizza’s were coming out of the oven but not going anywhere so I assumed there must be a large order. When I spoke to the waitress because I noticed she had gone through the ticket stack 4 or 5 times seemingly looking for something that was missing and then I started seeing others who ordered after us get their food. I finally decided to check on our food. My experience in the industry forced me to wait so long before approaching them. The waitress confirmed that there had been a large order but also confirmed there had been a problem and our order would be out shortly and she apologized. This was also acceptable however I told her it would have been better service if they came to their customers regarding the long wait vs the other way around. She understood and offered to send the manager over. I accepted that proposal. At almost 30 minutes the manager brought the food over but was acting like she was going to drop it and leave. Before she walked away we asked her if she was the manager and she said yes. When I explained her the problem she said yes we had a large order but she did not apologize for the wait. When I explained to her I understood the large order but I found it unacceptable no one came over to notify us of the delay and then more so unacceptable that 3-4 parties behind us had received their food prior to us receiving ours. All the manager had to say instead of apologizing and taking ownership of the situation was “Well I can’t control the orders that come out first.” While my experience in restaurants and customer service heightens my expectations, this level of poor service would not be satisfactory to someone with lesser expectations. The manager a short haired dark brunette whom a server confirmed is named Terez Munoz (unsure of correct spelling) did not do anything to correct our experience and in fact was the one person who made us never want to return to that location again. Sadly enough we used to go into this location at least once a week. There are a number of ways this could have been handled that would have been better than how this woman did. Offer your customer a dessert on the house or offer to comp part of the meal we already paid and tipped for up front prior to our crappy experience. I really hope this triggers a higher expectation for who Il Vicino higher’s for their management. Your manager should be there to put a face to the value a company holds for their customers not make their customers feel unvalued. Also as a side note for how this was handled as she walked away, my mother noticed her looking back at us while talking to the kitchen and wait staff with a snide look on her face. This action itself sealed the decision not to return to this establishment.

The pizza was great, however I was a bit turned off by the girl who took our order. My son and I are extremely lactose intolerant. I asked if their pesto is dairy free 3 times and it wasnt until the third time that she actually checked with the cook and realized that she had been wrong the first two times when she stated it was dairy free. Also, she suggested the goat cheese as a dairy subsitute. When I corrected her stating that cows milk and goat milk contain the same protein (alpha S1-casein) that causes the reaction, she told me I was wrong and that they do not, which is misinformation. I was a bit taken aback at her reaction and thought it sounded condescending and rude. I was only informing her for further reference so that her mistake would not end up putting someone in the hospital due to an allergy. For further business may I suggest that all employees understand different dietary needs and that they know which items do and do not contain certain allergens. I understand that some places cannot cater to all dietary needs and that is fine, however this is a quite common intolerance/allergen and must be recognized and treated with simple understanding and not as something disgraceful or irritating to the business. Other than that we all enjoyed the food.

Wow! One of the best pizzas Ive had! I just moved to CO and was searching for my go-to pizza place here. I think I found it! Well priced, great quality and not too fancy of a place you can show up in your jeans and t-shirt and feel comfortable. Great location downtown too. Pepperoni was very good! My wife and I both got a pizza (pretty much individual size, though they are about 12" diameter each) and we shared them and had leftovers. My friends with us also thought it was great and theyre from Denver so they looked up one near them to try next time. Great value and even better food! One down-side is they serve Pepsi products, which I hate (Coke and pizza are like Peanut butter and jelly!) My friend tried a beer of theirs and said it was excellent....Ill have to try next time. Another odd thing is that you order and pay at the counter before you sit, though there are servers that bring your drinks and come around to see if you need refills etc, so that makes tipping a little weird (especially if you always pay with card like I do).

If youre trying not to break the bank but want good quality food and a comforting atmosphere, this is a great place to go. The flavors of their oils put you right in the heart of Italys Amalfis Coast. The pizza is well built and holds well in the hand. The crust isnt to thick or to thin and pairs well with the additives you choose. The atmosphere could be considered romantic or just a place to grab a good bite to eat. There is indoor and outdoor seating so it would be okay for large groups as well. The paninis are also very well done with an adequate amounts of the goods inside. For the vegetarians in this vastly meat eating world there are ample choices for you as well. I have had a few myself and they are quite good and have more flavor than many of the other pizzas. In closing this place can fill a family of 4 for less than 30 bucks and bring you back for more. The serivce is also very good and parking is usually ok during the week and slightly crowded towards the weekend. (Metered parking)

I would rather get a frozen pizza from trader joes, it would be cheaper and probably taste better. It is quite clear most of the ingredients that make up their pizza are not fresh at all. The dough tasted frozen, if the sauce was homemade it was pretty bland and definitely wasnt made from scratch with fresh tomatoes and they dont make their own cheese, to their credit outside of the NYC region most pizza joints do not make their own cheese but a pizza place should make dough and sauce completely from scratch and it does not taste like this place does that at all. I find most places with a wood oven appreciate the ingredients of the food more which is why when I am not home in NJ I look for wood fired pizza but this place was quite disappointing.
